Hey guys,

I'm planning on a faction ship to run missions and for the fun factor. I just wanted to know if anyone can give me a hint about how high the risk is to get ganked by a suicide squad while running missions.

I'm posting with an alt obviously. ;-)

I think these days, unless you're sporting Officer/Deadspace fits worth the ISK to gank you, most aren't going to bother. Always the random ******* factor, but that's true if you're running in a T1 ship with sub-named parts. Some people would do it just to get your goat.

The ship itself would not make you a target (will make it more interesting to scan you to search for expensive mods most likely though), unless you meet a bunch of gankers who are total a$$hats, that wants to ruin your playing experience without consideration of personal cost (in terms of ISK).

My current mission ship, a Golem, is semi faction, with a CN xl booster, 3x CN BCS's, and 2x CN Invulns. Thats as much as i dare put on it, i feel that i am already skirting the edge im terms of being a profitable gank.

Before that, i was driving a Rattlesnake with 6 CN launchers and the above mentioned booster for several years without any problem.

As long as you dont overdo it with expensive mods, you should be ok, just stay well clear of low sec :)

Just stay away from putting Deadspace and Officer mods on your ships and you should be fine.

Another suggestion is to stay away from the overcrowded systems, the "mission hubs".

You are a profitable gank. You are probably not worth it in terms of sec status loss and planning time however. There's tons of targets more worthy than you who are more worth said sec status loss and planning.

theres plenty of 5b setups to gank so only reason that you might be ganked with a 1b setup is that the gankers are bored or dont like your name or something :P

the isk cost for ganking is only around 100m but its the planing and sec hit that is most anoying :)

what your ship costs and implants dont have anything to do with risk of ganking, just what mods you might drop. and if someone is scanning ships they will scan every raven just as cnr.. raven is a lot easyer target anyway with less HP.

In other words, don't undock? I mean who would want to lose anything? Ehhe, i know, you meant don't fly what you can't affort to lose.

But yeah, there are people who suicide gank without the profits, they just want to annoy people. It doesn't matter if your fittings are 1mil or 10bil for them.

Then there are the suiciders that look for profit.

Just avoid mission hubs or long times without warping (ie. don't start to chat right after you undock and before you warp) and don't go AFK on autopilot and you should be fine. And don't overfit, if you got 50bil fittings in your faction ship, changes are that you're gonna pop sooner rather than later.

You probably won't get ganked unless you are some fruity little smackbear that thinks he is the ****.

What is the status of freighter suicide ganking now? My contention is that freighter ganking is extinct. Evil or Very Mad Used to see lots of it in the 0.5-0.6 systems - clouds of Concorde around a cluster of freighter boxes. After the nerf, it disappeared.

I've been asking around quite a bit the last few days, and nobody can point me to a mail or evidence of any kind of a freighter suicide gank in empire. One Fenrir killed in Amarr space (Malarkey) a couple weeks ago was NOT a suicide gank - it was an Amarr faction navy kill after running too many Gallente missions.

Killing a freighter requires around 175K of damage in 6-8 seconds. Figuring 900 DPS from cheaply fit full gank BS's, that means you need, at bare minimum, 23 battleships. However, in reality, factoring in lag, drone/missile flight time, AFK/idiot fleet members, you'll probably need between 30 and 35 to insure a kill, plus a scout thats good with big numbers.

So yes, its POSSIBLE. But I want to know if it has actually happened in the last six months. Show me a killed NPC (non-WT) freighter, in hi-sec, SINCE the CCP nerf.

Anybody?

Because there is a big difference between 'possible' and an actual threat.

Dont think there is many suicide ganks going on these days..Its much more profitable too lure mission runners into attack,by flipping their cans and whit a ninja salvager. And the bring in the big guns...

…which is why it's usually easier (if… ehrm… not entirely accurate) to base the gankability on volley damage rather than DPS. For instance, 175k HP can be taken out in a single volley by some 35 torp ravens (at ~5000 volley damage). Razz

15 ravens should gank a freighter... but its a lot easyer to go for cnr's then freighters.. only need 5 ravens for that and easyer to loot :P

oh and theres been a change to suicide ganking, since the sec hit is now bigger fewer ppl are using chars with good sec to do it.
insted ppl are now useing their pirate alts for suicide ganking. dont need to care about the sec loss since you allreay are -10 :P
and you can move around highsec even in a BS when you are -10 without a problem since the stupid navy webbs you before scrambling -> instawarp.

I think you'd be a very good gank with that setup. Just because no-one ganks drakes now, doesn't mean they won't start if they can see that setup..

I agree. I fly a faction fittet CNR in a crowded system myself for quite a while. Nether have I ever been a victim to a gank attemt nor have I ever observed somebody else beeing ganked. I havent even seen a faction ship wreck yet.
Also, Ive never seen 10 Ravens lurking around wich would be necessary to gank a faction BS.

Imo ganking of mission runners with big faction ships is just a myth that has been invented to scare the carebears.

just an FYI, he said dont fly what youre not willing to lose not "dont fly what you dont want to lose" theres a big difference; think about it.

Youre right, i dont want to lose any of my ships, but im willing to lose any of them ie put them at risk for the right cause.

There are several major exceptions to "dont fly what you cant afford to lose" . . . i can afford to lose my apothesis, but i dont fly it in low sec because i think its cool and i want to keep it as long as possible
