Hi

I am configuring a harbinger for PVP in 0.0, both SOLO and small Gang.

I must decide what drones to use:

1.- Are Hammerheads II(x5) a right choice to fight all kind of ships or they have important problems with small and fast ships?
2.- Other posibility is this:
5 x warriors II
5 x ec-300 (ECM)

What do you recommend harby fans?

Thanks in advance.

5x ec600 is best for solo. While i guess in the end you will win against most AFs, if you scoop your drones fast enough, you are going to be tackled for quite a while before you manage to get rid of him.

meds got nerfed vs small stuff, but really hammers are the more better drone for all round engagements.

but for warding against small ships id rather go for the warrior IIs and the EC-300s. good for multiple roles, eg support

If you have time to tank it, then hammerheads are ok, but if you really need to "make the attacker busy" then go for warriors when it's about small ships.

Against frigates, if it's an Afterburner frigate then Hammerheads are the premium DPS drone to use. If it's Microwarpdrive, then use Warriors. Hammerhead II's literally tear most FOTM AB frigates to pieces. Most Assault Frigates will happily tank 5x Warrior II, whereas 5x Hammerhead II will cause it some problems as it tries to keep transversal up against you and loses transversal against your drones.

Er... I've killed full flights of hammerhead IIs before they became a problem solo in my rifter.

Agreed, warrior II's with good skills however can be a little bit tricky (but not by any means impossible).

I'd go with 10x warrior II's, or 5x warriors and 5x light ECM drones. Personally I'd prefer the first and not the later, you can't depend on ecm drones for escape.

The pilot sucked then and allowed you to drop transveral on both him and his drones, or you were using an MWD and not an AB. Watch this video for an example of Hammerhead II's vs Warriors II's.

It really, really depends on your fit as I said. If you're running MWD/Disruptor setup, Warriors would be a lot more difficult, but AB/Scrambler setups take a pounding from med drones.

And What about using Valkirie II instead of HammerHead II?. They do less damage but are faster and have better traking.

My question is for general SOLO perpose in 0.0.

Please keep using medium drones against my AB Ishkur - absolutely no need to use small drones for anything, they suck. Really! Very Happy

I have to agree with Lecter =)

Fact is that I'd much rather fight against medium drones than lights in AFs/Frigs. I had enough of situations where Hammerhead IIs were destroyed in seconds and the target was left helpless against my guns.

I was thinking more something like Harpy/Jaguar vs Ishkur; are you telling me you'd stick lights on me?

By all means do, makes my job a lot easier Laughing

Sorry Cedric, your post does not make sense in the context of your previous one. How many drones can you stick in your Harpy/Jaguar? The Ishkur has the biggest drone bay of all assault frigates and a bandwidth of 25 which is exactly sufficient for 5 small drones or 2 medium and one small (which I never tried honestly).

And finally - of course I'd stick 5 light drones on your assault frig, pulling them in every time you target them.

Depends on your target race and fitting. Check base attributes of the target ship and fitting options before you engage. With some practice you will have a good chance of guessing where the resistance hole is.

The reason why most pvpers use thermal damage drones is, that they have the highest base damage. On an Amarr ship explosive or kinetic damage is a nice supplement to the EM and thermal damage of your lasers.

Meh, I meant Ishtar - damn you CCP for making those names so similar!
I wasn't clear, and for that I apologise; I was talking about a situation where a Jaguar or Harpy comes in on an Ishtar (my bad, I know - sorry!) and the pilot has to choose to launch meds or lights. Lights would be the logical choice, but I recommend you test it out and see which one is more painful; the bottom line is that on an AB Harpy/Jaguar that the damage the Hammerheads put out (assuming the Ishtar has at least some guns forcing you to keep transversal on him rather than the drones) is really, really heavy compared to what the Warriors would do despite everything else.

I used to swap between using 5 x Warrior IIs and 3 x Valkyrie II all the time in my Cane. The Warriors for when I expect interceptors and the Valks for all other frigates. With a scram to turn off a MWD and a webber on board, the Valks make mincemeat of frigs. Although, to be honest, I have leaned towards having 5 x Warriors plus a spare on board for a while now.

It is a different story with my Huggin and Rapier, though. With the webbing bonus and the 'standard' fit of at least two webs it cries out for 4 x Valkyries in the bay :) Even interceptors will be mullah'd by Valk IIs in that case.

Ok, I already thought you were mixing up the ship classes. The Ishtar will usually have troubles hitting your Harpy/Jaguar with medium sized guns if you don't hold still and wait til you die. In my personal experience light drones hurt my frig sized ships more than mediums. The downside is however, that I can toast them pretty quickly either with web and blaster or with my own set of Warrior II. I once got trapped and killed 7 small drones (Hobgoblins and Warriors) before I managed to lose the point of an Arazu and warped out with 50 % hull left.

AF's are tough opponents for cruiser hulls. But I would never engage an Ishtar in my Ishkur, assuming that it is packing a minimum of 10 light drones which put a lot of hurt on my little ship combined with 1 or 2 medium cap neutralizers plus a small one if the pilot is competent.

My drone skills are nearly maxed out, so I'm gonna try it with a corp mate to see if my Hammerheads hurt his AF more than Hobgoblins or Warriors.
