new fitting screen looks slick and cool... but it doesnt seem intuitive at all.

Also effective HP is displayed... but what dmg profile is that? Omni? 25% x 4? or what?


Also... Wasnt there supposed to be a dev tools deal supposed to come also? Where you design and save a fitting, then you can autoload the fitting super quick?

I recently fit 11 blackbirds all the same way for a war im in on an alt... with that autofitting deal.. i could have done it once, saved, autoed the rest. Then my wrist wouldnt be dieing.

Some feedback on the new ship/drone/etc icons:
They seem to get rendered with a rather high field of view setting. As such, many ships seem distorted, and it's even harder than it used to be to make out differences between e.g. T2 variants of the same hull that don't use a radically different paintjob.

I dig the more vibrant backgrounds and lighting setups they use, though.

Also, all the planets I visited seemed to be using the same, dull grey texture, though with added atmosphere it seems. Was I just unlucky in my choice of system to try it in?

You may also want to include "Backgrounds" in your list of things that are or aren't in the renovated content, depending on whether they'll still come or not... might stop some people like me asking: Can we has, pleez?

The dull grey orb is the base shape, it's not rendering the texture of the planet.
(had the same issue) The new asteroids look pretty nice though. (if unoptimised, BIG fps drop in a belt)

glow-maps on guns didn't work either, no weapon effects, no warp-tunnel.
All in all most of it seems to be non-functional.

No idea what I did at one point though, it started rendering planets correctly, aswell as the glowmap on my ship, but then asteroids disappeared and all belts appeared empty.

Thanks for the feedback thus far. I'll update the main topic with additional things that were found.

Summary of findings thus far (build 6.10.77718):
  • Suns are missing from the build

  • Tactical overlay is missing

  • Star map/Solarsystem map is not fully working

  • Planet rings are visible even when they should be behind the planet

  • Planets lack textures

  • Ships are distorted when rendering their icons

Once every 30s or so screen would update and UI elements either came or went, key commands registered with PC at time if these updates.

Please submit a bug report with a dxdiag and logserver about this so we can further investigate.

Hopefully effects will make it into the next Sisi build. However, I don't have information on when that will be. Keep an eye on the forums for further updates :)

The new dx9 models are now in the patch. Grab a mission to see them! This forum thread is to help keep scene2 feedback to one area of the forums while Apocypha is on Sisi for testing.

Thanks for the feedback. The field of view for the ships in icons was being rendered incorrectly. This will be addressed in a future build :)

not only am i missing some planet textures
im missing rings on one side of a planet wich are visible from the other
im having huge fps issues with zomm levels in and out of stations (the actual zoom level depends on the ship)
example
160fps 1 dab on the mouse wheel on my zealot
im down to 25 fps
also repeatable with npc ships
funkey texture stuff aswell with wrecks

Errm, no can do chief. It took me 5 minutes to get my mouse cursor moved 1cm on screen to the close button.

When I did manage to close Eve the 25 Task Managers I had apparently opened all appeared at once.

I generally do not go back to things I know will hurt me, and with no control over running applications during the freeze time I risk damaging CPU or GPU (or other hardware) if there is something telling them to go full tilt.

This may be caused by an outdated graphics driver. If your driver is not at the latest version, please try updating it to see if that resolves the problem. If it still doesn't work, please submit a bug report describing with at least a dxdiag so we can further investigate this issue.

besides the missing visual effects, i am missing alot of audio effects like the targeting sound or the sound of my lasers fireing. also regulary sometimes all sound is suddenly gone before i go into warp. after entering a new system the sound seems to be there again, at least partially.

i'd also like to confirm the clipping bug with the new billboard, where when more than half of it is off-screen, the entire billboard doesnt render anymore.

Sometimes after making a gate jump, my ship appears to be uncloaked. I can't activate any modules (getting the cloak interference message), and I clearly hear the sound of the stargate.

When I then break the invisible cloak I don't get the uncloak sound. Rather, all sounds (such as the stargate) become silent. Only after entering warp I seem to get the sounds back.

Is the way how t3 ships are going to be build altered or changed? Currently I get a error message when I try to change the blocks in the fitting menu.

I had massive FPS issues when I went on SISI last night (GeForce FX5900XT).

With "Scene 2" ON (with LOW setting) the CTRL-F window was reporting 5-20 FPS, sometimes a bit more, but switching off "Scene 2" brought me back to the usual 60-100 FPS.

Has the rendering not been optimised yet or will it be possible to have more control over the way things are rendered ?

Massive fps drop for me also with scene2 on sh2 card. Seems like old sh2 cards cant handle the graphics.... Maybe dumping classic build wasnt a good idea...

-missing textures in Amarr stations
-missing ligthing in Amarr Stations
-missing cloud background in space, it blinks in for parts of a seconds from time to time
-invisble ships in stations
-planets have no textures
-weird lines starting at a central point going over the screen

Im using an Ati X800 and my drivers are pretty recent. No problems in any other games or eve classic.

Currently you can remove a skill from the que by selecting it and then pressing the remove button or by selecting it and right clicking and press the remove tab in the right click menu is this going to be changed so you can delete skills and remove them without having to select them?

Was running a beta driver, but rolled back to latest nVidia WHQL release and can load space. Can't use Scene2 while testing probes though as the movement widget doesn't appear.

Still has problems loading station environ once in a while, and entering space has an odd lag-spike type of thing at times (as in loading bar freezing and then filling instantly).

loading station environments causes my card to go nuts, and the fan to go in to overdrive, card is more than capable of handling this, its doing 265 fps in station; just dont sound healthy...

will try drivers...



EDIT - new drivers dont help, being in station scares me...

CCP (or anyone else that can answer),

I have a crappy laptop (Dell B130) with an integrated graphics card that can only run sm2. I know this was never designed for gaming, but I can run Classic with no problems.

When I am on Sisi, when scene2 is enabled, the graphics are all screwy, I experience slight lag, and everything looks like crap. I can’t even see my ship when docked. This happens on SM2 lo or high, and all settings of UI_MipSkip.

However when I uncheck Enable Scene 2 everything is beautiful and works just fine. Except it looks exactly like Classic does now (with the minor exception of the new fitting screen, scanner interface, and maybe more I haven't noticed yet)

So my main questions are:

1) Is the option to uncheck “enable scene 2” going to be in the final release? Or is this just a temporary Classic client ability for the test patch which is going away?

2) Is it possible my problems on scene 2 are related to this being test version that still needs some kinks worked out (and just some of the same problems everyone is having) or am I likley going to have the same issues? (I know I am asking for speculation here, but I am unsure if there is even an inkling of hope)

3) What is “UI_MipSkip” and what are the best settings of this for “less pretty” but better performance?

Ok, I tested all three of my accounts in five machines- Here's the results (Caveat- these tests were targeted at best playable performance with premium graphics enabled. Since I am confused about whether being able to disable the premium graphics will remain- these tests reflect best possible result with premium graphics running):

Machine #1:

Athlon X2 64
2 * nVidia 8800 GT 512MB in SLI
3 Gigs RAM

Result: Wonderful frame rates- 1920*1200 with the default client settings)

Machine #2:

Pentium 4 3.0 GHZ
nVidia 8500
2 Gigs RAM

Result: Framerate only acceptable if the setting are lowered to the point of making the graphics look like cardboard. UI sluggish. 45 FPS in station. (Skip two levels) SM 2.0 lo setting)(1280*1024)

Machine #3 (This represents two twin machines):

Athlon 64 3200+
Nvidia 5950 Ultra
1 Gig RAM

Result: Completely useless. Not playable... not in any way. Can't dumb it down enough to make it playable= 8.6 FPS in station. Fitting UI doesn't work. Machine so sluggish redocking next to impossible. (Lowest settings possible with premium graphics enabled. Note: fitting UI doesn't work under either premium or non premium)

Machine #4:

Athlon 64 3200+
nVidia 6600 GT
2 Gigs RAM

Result: Framerates marginally acceptable, if you like cardboard. Lowest settings possible. 20 FPS in station. UI sluggish.

Commentary:

Assuming that the blessed little "Premium Graphics and scene 2" check box's is going to be in the final build, this is going to be a big win for CCP- because I'm seeing much better performance with these turned off than I do on the other client.

If the "Premium Graphics" and "scene 2" check boxes will not be in the final build- this is not a good thing. On 3 of my machines the only option for playing is with those boxes unchecked. My suspicions regarding nVidia 7000 series hardware is that it will only perform marginally under premium graphics- maybe acceptably in SLI. I have a friend testing this now.

So I think this is new patch could be great, or a real buzz kiiler for me. I understand the idea of "future proofing" software. But depending on how you handle this... it might also be "customer proof". Dropping cards before the nVidia 5000 series I suppose is ok. But the performance for really *playing* the game only seems acceptable on 8000 series nVidia hardware and presumably higher end 7000 series hardware.

I shudder thinking about a small fleet engagement on anything other that a couple 8000 Series cards in SLI.

If you are running nVidia 6000, 5000 or low end 7000 Series? You are as we say "SOL".

With Scene2 on (SLi Nvidia 6600s) /i crashed on undock - had to reboot.

2nd attempt PC went into death throes (beeped, squealed some audio at me and died) grabbed a screen shot (on screen was corrupted graphics all over - even the setting screen - unusable & unreadable) - but this just appears as a black screen on file) PC crashed and automatically rebootedShocked.

Turned Scene2 off now - no bug report Im afraid as Ive got 0 data to send :(

Please note that Scene 2 rendering (Premium) is extremely buggy at the moment, and the Scene2 tickmark option will be removed when Premium is considered stable with the new effects and rendering.

I don't think anyone can run with Scene 2 atm and get it to work.

Confirming abysmal scene2 performance.

MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz, 2 GB RAM, Radeon X1600 mobility (latest ATI drivers using mobility modder), Windows XP SP3

First launch of this build was nearly unplayable, but after I switched to "SM_3_0_LO" things got a lot more comparable to the current premium client (which I always run on this machine as it isn't any slower than classic). But my framerate is still significantly lower, and easy to knock below 30 fps, especially when looking at more complex ship models in the hangar (this never happened before).

I experienced all the same bugs everyone else has described, and would like to add that I have experienced enormous instability when alt-tabbing between EVE and other programs (EVE often won't restore itself, for example, and I'll eventually be informed that it has crashed). It is hard to pinpoint any single issue, as it seems that when I am alt-tabbing around EVE finds some new and horrific way to self-destruct. (Last time the client reloaded but completely froze so that the screen wasn't updating and I couldn't click anything, and even my mouse cursor got really choppy for like 30 seconds until I was finally able to get the task manager to come up and kill EVE.)

Many performance bugs as well. For example, around the FD- station I get a 1-second or so hang-up every 15-30 seconds or so, even though there were only like 10 other people flying around. (Also happens in the current premium client sometimes on bad days, though not nearly so severe as 1 second, and I can't figure out what causes it because sometimes it'll happen in a gang of 10 but a fleet of 50 will be silky smooth.)
