Why is swearing such a taboo on mmog's? I get tired of do gooders that moan about swearing all the time, i am a 25 year old adult and i feel i have the right to swear when i have just cause to. I think used in the right context it is ok i.e. damn a ******* pirate just killed me is fine, the only problem i can see with swearing is if its directed at someone i.e. your a ******* ****. Some of you might say that there are players under 16 but i say you shouldnt even be playing mmog's under the age of sixteen, you cant get a credit card until then anyway. Feel free to a post your opinions on this.

in my line of work ingame i get countless mails and convo`s calling me some names i havnt even heard of, yeah they are pretty colourful to say the least, but it all depends where you draw the line, when you get told to go **** your mother you **** face ****** etc.. it does start to get a bit pathetic and offensive really
no need for it ingame imho, it is only a game afterall and should be enjoyed as such.
people who get wound up to the point of these outbursts should realy take a few steps back and have a look at themselves.

as for general swearing and the credit card argument,
eve is not rated 18, paying by credit card is only 1 of the options for payment, so that dont make it an adults only game,
and i know that the kids who play this probably know more swear words than some of the older players but it still dont make it right for adults to go round swearing.
dunno maybe im being a goody goody, but its just the way i see itSmile

CAPS !

What's with them ?

Of course swearing is frowned upon on these forums. Ingame is another matter, as long as your doing it in private channels of course.

Oh, and there arent that many 16 year old playing Eve I woud imagine. It's much too boring.

Whats that got to do with swear filtering? Have you heard any kids recently? Most of them know more obscenities than I do.

I think swearing is fine, I think abuse is not. There is a difference.

Personally, I believe you can get far more discriptive without swear words. The English language has a lot of very eloquent words that are simply never spoken because they have fallen out of the popular consensus.

Swear words are used 99.9% of the time, IMO, as an expletive.

The odd swear word now and then, as an expletive, is fine.

Too much swearing just indicates someone is a bit thick.

Billy Connolly made some joke about knowing loads of words, but still preferred "****".

I can relate to that.Very Happy

Sometimes, that one word says everything.
- yeah, but that one word is still not allowed on the forums, even partially masked ugh - Sherkaner

You have to be 18 to register an account, but a parent can register an account for a person who's 13 and up, so there are players who aren't 18 yet.

And for everyone: please stop bypassing the profanity filter, currently we don't do much more than edit the posts, but if a lot of people does it a lot we might have to start warning about it.

Some people don't want to be hearing **** or **** every other word, they aren't "nice" words to hear, and I don't mind the occassional one, but every other word? Smile

Please do not try to circumvent the profanity filter. Seriously Confused - Sherkaner

We have asked several times in this thread not to circumvent the profanity filter, still people keep doing it. Please don't, we really have no choice but to moderate those posts. Confused

For those that don't know what "circumventing the profanity filter" means, here's a little explanation:

Let's pretend the word "yuck" was a bad word and in our beloved profanity filter. Then everytime you tried to write "yuck", it would appear as "****" in the forums. The profanity filter is not the brightest, though, and does not catch variations of the words, for example

Arrowdeliberate misspellings, like "y00ck" or "yukk"
Arrowpartial maskings, like "y*ck", "y!ck" or even "y***"

According to the forum rules, all those variants are not allowed either, so we moderators will remove them, and possibly lock threads or issue warnings.

If you have further questions or comments about the profanity filter or the forum rules, please don't discuss them in this thread, but send a mail to mods@ccpgames.com.

Thanks for your attention ugh

You can get a debit card which I think can be used to buy the game cards if they still exist or use a pay pal account.

To put this further into perspective, I find it somewhat strange that in todays society, blood and guts...gore, and bullets to the head. Violence in general is more readily accepted than a curse word, or a pair of b00bies for that matter.

I get around the filter by using words that are not included such as vagina. As in, "you are all vaginas."
