Hmm.

This worries me:

Quote:
Exploration probes will not be able to locate ships and drones but will have extremely low fitting requirements, making them ideal for people who wish to hunt down wormholes and other celestial anomalies.

Does this mean that anyone with a ship and a few extra ISK will be able to go out and find Wormholes?

I was hoping the Wormhole exploration would still be in the realm of the skills that many of us spent months learning. If anyone with a week old character can go out and hop into some new system with tons of new cool stuff just as easily as those of us with the high astrometrics skills, that kinda takes some of the shine off of it, IMO.

Aye, fitting means we can put them on any ship.

Doesn't mean we'll have a rat's ass chance of finding anything without the skills.

Yeah, the main theme of that blog seemed to be that it would be easier to explore after the patch, which makes me a little nervous. Hopefully they account for the fact that those of us who have spent time training exploration skills (and becoming skilled at exploration in general) when they decide how things interact.

On the plus side: it will be very nice to only need to carry around one type of probe for exploration.

I am also hoping the "brand new type of NPC" doesn't mean that we will only have combat sites in wormhole exploration. Yeah, I can do those, but it would be nice to have a mix of hacking and archeology sites too.

They can make the skill requirements for exploration easier yes, but 90% of it has nothing to do with skill points and everything to do with skill.

It looks to me (through my 'hopeful' lenses) like they're simplifying the mechanics but not significantly changing skill reqs for exploration.

I spent a good chunk of my last month training exploration skills so I'm also hoping wormholes make use of this work.

On second thought it probably won't be that bad. I wonder if exploration sites will spawn in wormhole space? Imagine probing to get a wormhole, then going through the wormhole and doing a RADAR site Twisted Evil

Curious as to how locator agents will work if your target is in one of these wormhole systems.

That would be my absolute ideal case. I think that sort of thing would be a great way to implement the whole situation. It would be a shame if you find a wormhole and require no other exploration skill after that point.

it is that way now with exploration, it doesn't mean anyone with low skills is any good at it though Laughing

it's not often that the devs reach deep into the void and pluck out one of my fantasies in its entirety, but this time, they've managed to do just that ShockedShockedShocked

i wonder how they decide which systems will be linked. will it be 0.0 and low-sec only? completely random selection of any normal system with the new ones? will the new systems be located on the current map, clustered into new regions? how many of the systems will have an open wormhole at any given time? how many other systems will each system link to?

I don't think we have to worry about all the newbies circumventing the skill training a lot of us have done. What I gathered from the post is that worm holes are going to be a one way street. It won't be easy to drag around different ships to explore and run the sites. One ship is going to have to do it all, so the fitting is going to change to show that.

Also, I'm sure there will still be hacking, arch/salv, mining and combat sites. Where else will we be getting T3 bpcs from.

Looking forward to it.

The gates close after a certain amount of mass has passed through, so im sure it'll be fleets of ishtars, not dominix's. All Hail Ishtar!

For one I'm glad the fitting requirements for exploation launchers is being reduced. You should be able to fit a launcher from any reasonable ship, not just a tailor-made one.

Also ships without ammo will be a must as well as the drone boat!

The interesting part is that the wormhole you use to arrive at the system is also your exit point. You will have to BM it to save you scanning for another wormhole, which would not necessarily take you back to empire.

I can imagine a poorly prepared gang going through a wormhole with only one probing ship which gets destroyed by an NPC. Then there will be lost pilots with no way back, unless they self-destruct, or if you are lucky to come across them, you can sell them a BM.

stupid.... The whining mission runners finally got there way again ehh... Better make deadspace not dampen stuff anymore then ;)

*just the whole sound of this is kinda bad... imo they should leave the scanning mechanics alone and just introduce a wormhole launcher and/or wormhole probe(s). Sounds like WAY too much change to me. Why not add "wormholes" to multispec results, and let people go from there or something. Christ.. this is bad.

Imagine...
Your in a system flying around doing your thing.
Hostiles enter local and camp the gates preventing your escape.
Your in a safe spot, and your scanner shows the hostiles are trying to probe you out.
You dont have a cloak fitted.. omg, they are gonna find you!

But, you happen to have an exploration probe launcher fitted.. something you just slapped on in the spare slot due to the low fitting reqs.

You throw out an exploration probe while running around safespots avoiding the hostiles, when suddenly you find a wormhole!

You pass through the wormhole and escape, leaving the hostiles confused as to how you left local, stayed logged in, and never approached a gate.

You appear on the other side of the wormhole, safe from the hostile players, but finding yourself in an unknown system.. all alone.. your safe for now.

Suddenly a bunch of unknown npcs appear on your overview...

to be continued...

Sounds awesome to me Very Happy

No. Wormholes allow you to reach wormhole space. Anything other means will be considered defective and then an exploit. Twisted Evil

It is already very easy to scan missions runners and you want it to become easier?

Ganker stupidity never stop to amaze me. The current scarcity of targets in low sec was born by the day scanning mission runners was made easy and you want to further drive away those few that still exist making even easier to get them?

You will not get more targets, you will get less.

All sisters launchers (of both kinds) will be converted to a sister version of the new ship finding launcher. The ship finding launcher will also be able to use exploration probes and will as such be better than the exploration launcher on all acounts (except fitting).

I do suggest you start selling off your probes. While they will be converted to the new types of probes you won't need nearly as many anymore as you now will be able to scoop the probed back in after use and use them again any number of times.

I would imagine that's within the probes lifespan of course.

Seems Eve has become more like Star Trek, which is funny really as ST-online is due out this year.

Go figure that eh? <cynically sounding>
