1) warping in high object enviorments(drones are still a prob as they still load even whit no textures...ccp can change to a options where drones are not loaded at all if wanted)
2) warp disruptor bubles...stationary ones
3) jumping whit a 30+ more gang in a nother sistem creates lag BUT also the trafic control thing
4) braking cloack of a large gang(ex a gather/warp comand by the gang leader after jumping)
5) wreck generating in big confrontations(100 vs 100 and the fun starts)

edit: multiple jump comands(cyno jump-in)

Like EnigmaZ said, when your ship is on fire and has smoke coming out of it, if you zoom into that the FPS drops significantly. I have a Radeon HD4870, which is his card's slightly bigger brother, and the FPS drops to around 15-20 just like his.

I would also like to extend that to any effect that seems to have a large number of particles onscreen at once. Sometimes gas clouds will do it, sometimes not, it's a bit sporadic.

Also, drones seem like they cause a larger performance drop than anything. 5 ships with drones deployed will drop me a good 10 FPS.

Oh, and one more issue. The link below is to a thread where a number of people are having problems running multiple clients. I was having the problem myself before I found a workaround, but I'm guessing this falls under "client optimization". Here's the link with all the details:

When you play Eve some time, you will recon, that it will take more and more time to load char infos at the login screen.

I tried a lot of ways to fix it, nothing helped.

The only thing that fixed it for some time is, when a patch came out. Then my client logged in fast again for few days.

Anyways, I find the gas clouds in some missions cause ridiculous amounts of client strain when running. Not the toxic cloud missions, just the random clouds (of dust I guess) that float about in missions as part of the scenery, a few of these together and holy **** does it lag. An option to turn these off would be awesome. Very HappyVery HappyVery Happy

I got this a lot when running the classic client on my laptop, but they don't make a dent in the framerate running the premium client on my newer desktop. Some missions used to be all but unplayable. One in particular comes to mind - You warp in to a cloudy deadspace area with lots of structures, and need to pick up some loot (wine? some type of pointless luxury goods) from a "warehouse" at the far side. It was slow on first warpin, but when the rats spawn when you get halfway it was down to 3 or 4 fps.

I think there's something specific in the way the clouds are drawn on classic.

I continue to get client freezes when i have many chat channels open. That doesn't mean i actually watch them, i have them minimized but i still get those frezes. I thought QR changes will fix this but they didn't. This doens't begin as soon as i login but later on and it seems to start faster when i start 'playing' the game rather than idling and just chatting in station.
If i close most channels, freezes seem to quickly disappear so i dont have to relog to fix it.
By freeze i mean the client just hangs for 1-2 seconds at first and as time passes it gets worse. During freeze nothing is responding, not even cursor.

The performance killers in a busy system:
A: Loading a fleet grid with drone models and brackets on, you might wanna go make a cup of coffie whilst it loads
B: Creating bookmarks/copying them
C: Moving around fleet positions
D: Zooming in at a POS with lots of structures anchored (this is a really bad one in some cases)
E: Switching on the FPS/Server data monitor (cntrl+alt+shift+m) when it gets laggy

Not 100% exactly on topic BUT:
- most people play fleet warfare with effects off (due to FPS issues)
- effects off option removes animation of DD and dictor bubbles
- not seeing dictor bubbles and DD animation is VERY BAD idea in fleet

Thus: is it possible to add DD and dictor bubbles onto separate on/off option? Same as missiles got thir own option?

Pretty much it would both improve gameplay (FPS wise = effects off) but at least would give players a chance to see VERY important tactical info (bubble locations, incoming DD blast so faster ships/aligned ships can warp out)

And back on topic:
- OW on which you have way too many objects (like BS only OW and enemy has 150+ BS) tends to grind my compy to halt
- cynoing in hostile ships (30+ carriers but also works for normal ships moving via bridge) will kill my FPS

How about this
we get a new tab subbed under graphics called effects with a easy one click all off. then further options from missiles to engine trails to warp tunnels and gun fire and guns and lights and ect ect.

As part of an ongoing effort to optimise the client, I've been doing some work in relation to particular activities that generate a lot of load (graphical or otherwise) on the client.

I'm looking for players to give me some input as to activities they undertake that increase the load on their clients, upto the point of the game being unplayable.

An example of this would be: "I warp into a grid with 300 people on it and my client grinds to a halt" or "Jumping with a large group of people into another system at the same time".

If anyone has any ideas of scenarios then please list them and any relevant information below!

you didnt have to do any brainstorming if you played the game for one week. nearly any fight with more than 20 players involved causes somesort of lag or desync.

maybe you should stop playing wow for a change Neutral

You see... its not exactly the issue. Problem is if you have "turn all on/off" it means most players would keep them ON. Not because they can (most of the time it would kill FPS) but being able to see dictor bubble/titan DD is usually WAY more important than having more than 1fps.

Yes i was dual accounting with full effects on when both accounts were choking at 1-2fps (horribad gameplay). But i had to have effects on to evade DD. And thx to this i saved 1 acc from insta-death.

Thats why turning all effects off except for dictor/hictor bubs and DD animations would be way to go.

Hopefully this will help some. I still have encountered heavy lag situations when travling through many systems whether running 1 or 2 clients full screen or windowed. One computer I play on is a dell portable m1730 2.5 dual core proc, 4 gigs of memory, 0 raid 2x300 gig hdd's, a geforce 8700 gt, running vista. The other system is 2.8 dual core, 2 gigs of memory, 260 gig hdd, geforce 9800 gts, running xp.

Both computers will experience this problem after about 20 to 30 jumps, I trval mostly in empire and rarely in to any major hubs. I have tried setting cache from high to none and all in between. Also most effects have been turned off.

Also another high lag situation I have always encounted is a doing level 4 missions against guristas. I am not sure makes them special amongst pirates my only guess has always been the ecm they use. But they can freez the screen on either system from 15 sec up to 3 min. And this occures in even in very low populated systems.

hmmm, by far the most slow side of client is

when 50 little Guristas spam missiles, the explosions and the missile themselves cause intense performance issues. No ther NPC rat has produced such major slowdown.

medium sized guristas seem to contribute to the problem too. Their rate of fire is very high.

I have a latest high end computer, it gives me 180 FPS with 2 clients working. However inside guristas missile fest I get below 20 FPS.

C2D 3.16 GHZ, 4 GIG DDR II 1066, X48, nvidia 9800 GX2

Guristas missile spam must come to the end... no I don't want to disable missiles completely because I need to see my own missiles...

Guristas missiles cause issues, don't want to turn off my own missiles.

Interdictor bubbles, mobile bubbles, heavy interdictor bubbles; especially when you warp into their edge.

On that same thread of thought, any time a warp it cut short the lag is horrendous. I lost a ship tonight to Goons because they waited until my covops was aligning to fire an interdictor sphere. My ship left warp mode, my ship became unresponsive (even though I told it to align 100 times in the first 20 seconds), their interceptor bumped me out of cloak before it even started moving again. Needless to say, the lost 20 seconds or so cost me my cov ops and then my pod.

And on that thread, there's a good 30-60 second lag when you lose your ship. Not the screen freezing lag, but the kind of lag where you see your ship explode then everything desyncs, then you get the evemail about being podded, 15 seconds later it starts loading the station environment lag. Yeah, that lag sucks.

why dont u move this to the new expansion and look at heavy loads there and build it into the development process maybe make some headway befor the patch

ArrowUsually when I'm entering a new area, as i'm entering the area my client will begin to load that area, locking up my client for a few moments.

These moments are very important and I should be spending it assessing the situation, am I in danager? instead of spending these critical moments loading the area.

ExclamationI wish there was a way to preload the area you are entering BEFORE you enter it, as opposed to as you enter it.

IdeaPerhaps a checkbox choice?
X [prepload area before warping to it] or
X [preload system before jumping into it]

The players with slow connections/computers will prefer this setting on.
The players with fast connections/computers might prefer this setting off.

What if you could hit a check box...
and have the game simply preload all systems within 1 jump of your current location.
So when u enter a new area its already pre-cashed...

A check box to all u to choose if this is something that u want.
