The way I understand it grouped torps take damage from defender missiles and thus get their damage decreased upon hitting their target proportional to how much defender damage was done to the torp group. Therefore if a single ungrouped torp can survive defenders you're better off leaving the launchers ungrouped since single torps will hit for full damage eh?

Just checking since I'm getting close to my Torpgolem and this grouping thing is so handy, but I'd prefer them to do full damage. Smile

npcs do.

But pretty sure only damage is removed when a defender does more damage than hp of a single torp, which is not the case.

I do on certain ship setups...Eagle Sniper for example. Saved my ass a few times.

It is my understanding you are incorrect.

They take damage as any other missile however count as only one missile when incoming. IE if an NPC got 25% chance to fire a defender it will fire on 25% of the volleys if grouped or 25% of the missiles if not. (A volley can if not grouped get 7 defenders on it, while if grouped no more than one.) The big difference is that a defender never kills more than one missile. So if you in a cnr fire volleys of 7 cruise missiles in a group they will take 1/7th of the damage compared to not grouped, from defenders.

As for torpedoes there are no NPCs firing enough defenders to kill a torpedo so it won't matter wether it's grouped or not from that point of view.

Save your laughs for the anti ecm missile boats that might be used for such things.

Anyway, considering 90% (hyperbole [I hope - for the love of god]) of eve are Caldari missile *****s (noobs) it's not so unrealistic to meet missile snipers.

Only thing I found was this:

Quote:
We also reduce the missile stack damage depending on its remaining overall hitpoints. So if the group of two heavy missiles gets reduced from 140 to 70 hitpoints, it will do 50% less damage to the target. This last rule only applies to stacked missiles, not ones launched in normal mode.

It's unclear if that applies to torps or not. What happens if a defender only does a small percent of damage to a grouped volley, damage less than 1 missile's hp? Does the group get a penalty based on defender damage done or does it hit for full because all "missiles" are still intact?

I was going to tell you that you're lying but after a quick search of killboards it appears that you indeed do use defenders on your Eagles though you tend to heavily favour blaster setups.

I think CCP does not agree with you. If you have a group of torps with 1000 hp total (added hp from all torps) and a defender does 100hp dmg, you will lose 10% of total dmg on that volley.

But if not grouped, all torps would have survived, and done maximum dmg.

You sure? Because I'm fairly certain I heard a dev say (granted, its been probably 1 or 2 years ago) that defenders still have splash damage and therefor it can make sense to stagger your missiles a bit, especially when npc'ing.

But yeah, torps rarely ever get shot down by defenders Very Happy
