I've been messing around with the idea to use a stealth bomber as an exploration cleaner.
Situation:
- I need a ship that makes jumps as fast as possible
- I need a ship with a very good base movement speed
- I need a ship with firepower
- I DON'T need a big cargohold (this is true for radar sites, if this is a different case for archaeology sites, then please tell me so, I will only be able to clear these starting tomorrow)
- I currently only scan in high sec

Questions:

Should I even continue consider using a SB for this purpose? (if not, why?)
What ship would be best the Nemesis or the Hound? (slot layout favors Nemesis imho, as I will need to fit a codebraker/analyzer)
What setup would you suggest?
I am thinking about taking exploration to low sec, abusing the cloak as much as possible for minimal risk,
is this a possibility, or is my brain playing tricks on me?

I currently am thinking about something like this:

Nemesis:

-Highs-
3x T2 Cruise Missile Launchers
1x Cloak

-Meds-
Analyzer
Codebreaker
MWD or an Afterburner

-Lows-

As many Nanofibers as possible (speed increase and higher agility for faster warping)

PS: I did try to find other setups or posts that weren't locked due to inactivity, I failed.

Comments are greatly appreciated, and I'm always open for discussion ingame.

Kind regards,

Uwi

PS: I wish everyone the best for 2009!

Problem I see with the stealth bomber is the pitiful tank. Often enough you land in the middle of some webbers and then you're toast with a SB. You're probably better off with a AF or HAC.

Note that RADAR/MAGNETOMETRIC sites allow you to warp in at range after you spawned the site. (wich has been done while scanning). Hence you seriously don't need a tank.
Maybe I should have stressed out I will NOT use this ship for unknowns (combat/deadspace stuff)

Im really not sure if this would work or not. But I do know you should NOT put both a code breaker and an analyzer on at the same time.

why is this, has something changed recently? i havent done rad/mag for a long time now but always used to have a ship with both on to clear whatever sites turned up

Because you could put something useful in there. It only takes a min to swap them out and you know which you will need before you enter the site.

You may believe this or not, but a minute is too much. I'm not kidding here.
Exploration is good business, and good business attracts a lot of competition.
It hasn't been the first time that I clear the site and then find someone warping in looting half the hacking cans.
That's why I came up with flying a SB in the first place. It's fast, has a decent align time and can pactically kills frigs without the need of a tank.
And yes I could use an alt...but I'm one of those jack asses that refuses to pay twice the price for optimal profit.
Okay maybe I'm a bit exaggerating....but the goal here is to improve the time needed to get from the station, to the point you're looting the cans.
If there's another ship that can do it faster, then please tell me so.
So all you need is an MWD to get from your sniping range to the cans. I haven't tested the SB yet, that will be something for later.
Ideally I would have a cruiser class covops, that can fit everything I need in one ship. Scan probe time reduction on the ship, maybe even reduction on the analyzer/codebreaker modules is a dream for every exploration pilot.
The covops fits the roll of "finder" perfectly, but even thinking about killing anything (even a frig) in a covops is ridicilous.
You lose 2 highs and 2 meds to utility equipment only. (I actually use a covops cloak to sit on a "scan hit" so the competition can't probe me out while I'm on the spot.)

I've thought about using a wolf as well, the problem here is that you need to fit a tank, but I need inertia/nano's in the lows... (and the mids for the tools ofcourse)

Anyway, please feel free to correct me on my thoughts, just thinking out loud here....
What would you put in the mid slot you gain from not fitting both tools?

Well..it could work. Many do these in Ishkurs because they are fast and have drones to do the dps while scootering around the area.

The good thing about these both is that they are cheap. If you get "friends" and loose a ishtar....ishkur feels like gravy to lose :) Of course you might not loose with an ishtar...but I've noticed that people who "drop by" know what you are flying.

Thats dumb. If you are going to a station to swap ships you can easily handle the extra 5-10 seconds it takes to swap the module out of your cargo bay.

And what about that minor problem where the spawns are triggered by activating the can? You're going to waste far more time warping out and back in when your paper-thin bomber can't tank them than you'll ever lose to slower killing speed from an AF.

You can't use MWD in radar/magno plexes, and you can't warp at 100k AFAIK (tried it a couple of times, ending up @ beacon all the time).
As I do 0.0 plexes only I can't comment on the tank, might be very doable in an AF in high and lowsec.

Many warp in beacons are also within 2km of a cloud so your cloak is useless. Coupled with the lack of any real tank I think you'd do better with an AF if you want to cheap it out.

It's a moot point anyway, if you warp out after attempting to hack a can then the site will despawn. Having said this, the rats that spawn after you hack a can are only going to cause trouble for the extreme paper-thin tanks. No idea how a SB would fare
