Have any of you played this game? or bought it yet? ive tried the single player demo, and im very impressed, attention to detail is astonishing, and its a very nice RTS, you can control individual units and stuff, and actually aim the guns yourself with the mouse, and u can jump in german tanks and stuff, its really cool, VERY hard tho, i still havent completed the DEMO yet, and im probably gonna buy the full game, as its probably one of the best RTS games out there ATM!

Download the demo here, its definately worth a bash

Nice to have a little break from eve on thos long trips, or mining ops 8)

LMAO, i thought this was some dedication to people who served...

My Grandad was a Gunner in a bomber during WWII, he may be a drunk now but he like many others risked their lives so we could all live without Dictatorship / Fascism

They shall not grow old as we who are left grow old,
And at the rising and the setting of the sun...we shall remember them...
We shall remember them

Lol, so did I. Anyway, to completely derail this topic, my grandfather was an artillery sergeant in China during the war.

Well while were on the subject, my grandfather fought in Anzio in italy, then moved on to Africa, think he was in the 73rd Medium artillery regiment Highland division, he used to go ahead of the regiment with his australian buddy and spot enemy troops and armor and direct arty fire, pretty hairy stuff from some of the stories he told me, i wouldnt like to get cut off from the rest of my squad, and try and make my way thru the desert undetected by the germansShocked

He passed away a couple of years ago nowCrying or Very sad, but he was such a great guy, and he used to show me all his pictures, and his medals and stuff, its a shame really, the second world war was the end of an era, youll never see comradery like it again, everything is just so different now.

basically yes, on the demo level you start with 3 men you can control, a sherman low on fuel and ammo and some other men you cant control. you have to defend 2 waves of tanks and men then destroy a nebelwurfer (multiple rocket launcher thingie) and then defend against some more tanks

If it is half as good as OpFlash was, then I must buy it. Codemasters is a good company.

On a side note, gotta love those guys who fought for the freedom of the world, my hat is off to them. I know my grandpa said he was a paratrooper in the Pacific Theatre, but I never did get much information from him about it. I should try to ask him again sometime.

Codemasters isn't a developing company, they are publishers afaik.

Quote:
Codemasters announced that the company's innovative real-time strategy game, Soldiers: Heroes Of World War II, has shipped to North American retail outlets. Developed by Ukrainian company Best Way,

I'm so proud...And no, im not going to buy it - i tried the demo, and its waaaay too hard for my standards :)

Neg, seriously, i thought same as u, that it was waaayy to hard, but once u figure everything out like repairing damaged tanks, its sooooo easy, once i figured out i could repair the german panzer i took out, the mission was sooo easy, i just drove around the town, outflanking the german tank reinforcements, and just shot them up the arse, they blow so easy! serious, try it, fix up the first panzer u take out, and the mission is a doddle!

WHY WON'T THOSE GOD DAMNED SILVER TANKS DIE(Panzers?) EFFFFFS?

I had my original Sherman in good working order, AND the PZ you initially take out. Both with ammo and in good condition. First time I tried taking out the large silver tank, when that didn't work I restarted and tried the baby-sized one, Waste of my time they seem invincible. The whole base camp was pounding on them as well. I had my driver step out and Bazooka them as well, and lay down anti-tank mines.

What's the deal man?

And why can I never seem to find replacement artillery shells(blue one? and what do the red ones do btw) of the right size in any of the ammo drops?

Bah, too hard heh

Wasn't the sherman guns too weak to make a dent in the Panthers armor?

The german Pz6 Tiger was way better more armored/Armed than any standart tank the allied had
a Tiger had no problem firings its 88mm shell trough the front armor of a sherman but the other way around....
if anyone cares heres a pretty nice link to a page about the german Panzer Ac Michael Wittmann the officer you have in the german campaigne ( Wrath of the tiger )

Michael Wittmann Panzer Ace

Quote:
he destroyed a total of 138 enemy tanks and 132 anti-tank guns and other heavy artillery pieces, not to say hundreds of other light vehicles. It must be remembered here that his initial tank kills were achieved while he was commander of a Sturmgeschütz III; one cannot begin to imagine what his final score might have been had the Tiger been developed earlier during the war.

as the allied troops often say in that game "THE GERMANS ARE POSSESED"

You cant take on the medium/heavy german tanks on Head to head, you need to keep an eye on them and try and get them from behind, if u can knock there tracks off with a single grenade from one of your troops, wheil the tanks is busy shooting somthing else, then move you tank in behind and shoot them up the arse, i leave one man in the sehrman as bait, while i move the repaired panzer around the back while the germans are busy pounding the out of fuel sherman!

what you do is blow up one of its tracks with an explosive shell then hit it up the backside with an armour piercing round

I bought this game and I'm happy with it. It's the most difficult RTS I've played, but it's also the best. Taking direct control of a tank and running it through buildings and concrete walls over and over again to chase down enemy units is too much fun.

Yup Tiger tanks rocked the battlefields. They were not immobile at all as it is often claimed and matched easily the speeds of allied tanks - BUT they had engine failures and Getriebeschäden (I need a dictionary, gez).
My grandfather was still in the ******jugend and some kind of mechanic (which he stayed because of a lack of education due to the ending of the war), he later had his own pitstop/gas station and my great grandfather was some officer in the Luftwaffe. Unfortunately I cannot remember him as I was a child when he died but my grandma always talked big of him :)

Ah I'm probably gonna get the game too, will try the demo first. Does the game support coop multiplayer modi ?

Yes you can currently play online in coop games, but the next patc hwill hopefully add 16 player deathmatch and other multiplayer scenarios, also the current multiplayer is far from perfect, and you have to go on the IRC channel to find people to play with, but they are adding support for Gamespy arcade and all seeing eye soon, so it will make it easier to match up!
