Here's something for you to test/troubleshoot/improve:

  1. run eve in a window

  2. go to jita

  3. minimize eve

  4. come back 3-4 hours later and open eve again

and watch what happens.

what happens is that when you restore the eve client it will take maybe 20 minutes before you can do anything useful because of the "catch up" lag that happens.

it looks as if eve is trying to catch up with all the stuff that happened while it was minimized and since this is jita there's huge amounts of crap going on in local, and therefor it takes a while to catch up.
(i got about 2-3 fps while it was trying to catch up)

and another annoying thing is that the chat timestamps is incorrect, so when you come back it looks as if all the chat text is happening right now even if the text was sent many ours ago.

so i think this case have some room for improvement.
i mean, it is after all a fast computer i'm running on (dual core amd64 6400+ or something like that) so it shouldn't be that hard to scroll by loads of text fast.
eve wasn't even using 100% cpu at the time it was trying to catch up.

another question, i assume either the client or the server is buffering data like chat text and so on.
the buffering must be on the client side right?

if its the servers that buffer the data what would happen if a lot of players have eve client minimized for long periods of time? high memory usage on servers?

If you are gone for 3-4 hours, why wouldnt you just restart your client?

I get this, i think its caused by vista.

Also, when it goes into this 'afk' mode the cpu use of eve drops to zero, which is nice.
It also looks awesome if you do it in a busy system.

if you (and many hundreds of others) didnt stay logged in doing nothing for 3-4 hrs there would be no lag in jita!
