Hey guys

I'm posting this question as a favour to a chap I work with. His account was banned not too long ago and as such he is unable to post this question himself.

Do ban petitions get answered? I ask as he claims to have put in several petitions aksing why he was banned and what he can do about it, using the petition form on the webpage. Each time he has recieved an email after a week or so from CCP with a message saying the petiton has been closed and would he like to fill in a survey on how well it went! Very Happy

Personally I'm not bothered by this at all but as a favour to him I have asked. Any CCP response would be very much appreciated. Other than that, flame away lol.

They have in the past.

Example would be the Daisho Titan there was enough of an outrage, GMs came right out and said everything on the forums :)

Quite possibly he did mate, tbh I don't want to know. The only thing I wanted to know was if the ban petitions get some form of response or if they are ingored.

No they don't, maybe good reasons around 90-95% of the time. I had a character that was banned for a week before.

By the time someone bothered to answer the petition, it was like "Oh well, you're unbanned tomorrow anyway, lol".

...and no, I never did forgive them for it but it's their game and I agreed and signed up so *shrug*.

Unfortunately there are far too many people who play this game compared to the number of CCP staff to have time to get it perfect all the time I think

But regarding the OP, I'd give it 4 days minumum for a reply, with a likely maximum of 7 days.

The guy gave me a rather nice bottle of Whiskey to ask this question (18 year vintage) which I'm currently enjoying, so I may as well ask for a CCP response if possible.

Well theres your problem!

He gave the alcohol to you rather then sending it to iceland for the devs to enjoy. No wonder he is banned. lol

This!

...and most people who are banned for a justified reason aren't going to tell you why they were banned: they will make up some story about how they were treated unfairly.

If your friend is telling you the truth, I would venture the guess that he has been filing his petitions via email, CCP has therefore responded via email, their responce gets blocked by your friends spam filter, then a week later the petition is automaticly closed because your friend hasn't replied.

Have him try filing a petition via web site: create a trial account to do so if needed. Much easier to track what is happening with the petition that way. As long as he checks on it once or twice a week, then there is no need to worry about it being closed on him.

But since you say that is what he did, he can go back and look at the petition to see why it was closed: if the last response was not from a GM, then something is fishy. I would want to read that full petition before believing your friends claim that CCP did not respond.

CCP has stated openly that they do not take kindly to their GM's closing petitions without responding. If you have real proof that they are disregarding petitions, then launch a complaint. However, I strongly doubt that your friends petitions were closed outside of normal policies.

Yes they do. They are however the lowest priority in the system I believe.

Thanks for the reply. I actually asked him about the spam filter and he said he recieved no replies except for the "Thanks for making a petiton, how did we do" one.

I've already said that I have no idea why his account is blocked and nor do i want to know. Perhaps there is a problem with an email petition, I know he will be ready this tomorrow at work ( lazy git ) and the trial account is a good idea.

It is not so much a matter of being lowest priority as being handled by the smallest team and requiring the most work to investigate.

Again, look at the petition history: you can go back and read all of your petitions, and see why it was closed and what response the GM's have made.

If there is any chance that his account has been hacked, then he should change his password/create a new account when filing the petition: it wouldn't help for the hacker to go in there and close the petition for him. Twisted Evil

From what I gathered his account is blocked so he cannot even log into petitions or even account management to check.

Ya, then suggest that he create a trial account so that he can monitor the progress of the petition.

Call them up.
It may be expensive but at least you can talk to them via phone.

If that doesn't work and your boy has enough cash you could start a test case by sueing CCP. A similar case we heard by the US Federal court but the details were quiet different to yours.
Just because there are words written in the EULA doesn't make them legally binding by any means so have a go. At worst, you'd make news all around the world and at best you would be a hero to gamers everywhere. Razz

Might even want to try sueing them in Iceland since bribing a judge would be far easier there given that real world ISK is worth about as much as Eve ISK. Laughing

I was banned once when my account was hacked and used to traffic other stolen ISK. After about 3-4 weeks of discussion, I got it unbanned and all my ISK restored. No ships or modules were missing, oddly enough.

It's all in how you word the petition. "OMFG U SUX CCP! UNBANZOR ME NOW!!!"...gets you no where. "Could someone please explain why my account is banned? I'd like to discuss how it might be unbanned so I can return to enjoying the game." Might get a response, in fact, the chances are very good.

Bans for a week or two are usually answered right before the ban ends, or shortly after....and only in extreme cases of the original petition being total BS will there be any change in the "ruling". But I dont think they will do anything in that case other than say "my bad, see you around".

Strangely people who are permabanned get a response within a day or two. Theirs no timer for them to run out like with the temp bans, so they just get it over with, let you respond once or twice, then close it out.

From a time standpoint, it saves them from responding to 20 replies on each temp ban, cause once the ban is over people will usually drop it. From a customer service standpoint it sort of sucks. But then again if I dealt with people all day who DID genuinly break the EULA, and just argued, I would hate my job lol.

Thanks to all who have replied, with luck he will get his account back so he can stop nagging me. Depends on CCP i guess.

I am partly feeling this was in some way directed to me, so I'd urge you to please reread what you quoted yourself in order to help answer your first sentence.

Good answer to the OP though, nice one. It was about 3 years ago when I went through that procedure and couldn't remember for the life of me all the fine details, don't even own the character in question anymore either, sold it over a year ago by now and rerolled. Smile

i think this is somethingf CCP should sort out , when banning somoene give them a clear reason why you are being banned so we dont get more of this , then the person knows exactly what they have done wrong to then go down the entire i never did that stuff

i havnt heard of many cases where CCP have been wrong about banning which ismore that realted with this case as i have a wild stab in the dark and say is RMT

Shame I haven't seen a few for a while.

On very general and broad terms I can add that CCP anwers all petitions! That including petitions regarding bans. I cant vouch for the outcome of such a petition ofcource. So have your friend file a petition! That is the best advice I can give you! It will be answered!
