Hi, just bought a new home cinema(panasonic scht520) and it doesn't play digital TV or Video tapes in Dolby pro logic 2 just plays same sound to 5 channels if turn surround mode on. My old DVD player used to decode digital TV and video into dolby pro logic so phoned up company and asked why they don't anymore and the guy said cos the sound quality was poor with pro logic so they stopped doing it with tv and video - is this bull**** ?? any input would be appreciated...

A tv program or DVD has to be encoded in Dolby Pro Logic or Dolby Digital 5.1 for it to interactively use your 5 speakers and amplifier.

Watching normal tv thats not encoded (i.e news, documentaries) or playing CD's will only use your center speaker and the right and left ones, the rear ones will be silent.

To check if a program is encoded in dolby digital or pro logic look on the back of the dvd, in the case of tv movies check the listings info.

I think this is what you were refering to?

Well the new unit I have does not decode (dolby pro logic encoded) TV or Video into Pro Logic - it is not meant to.

The guy i spoke to said that nearly all new DVD cinema's do not decode pro logic (tv or video) now because the sound quality is poor and a lot worse than stereo so not worth it. My question is - is this guy i spoke to right in what he says ?

It can't decode and interactivly use your speakers if the dvd or film is not encoded in pro logic or dolby digital.

Then what ARE appropriate topics for this forum?

Oh, I forgot, your trolling the forum with your nonsense, or perhaps that would come under spamming? Smile
