If you encounter 10,000 conspiracy theories, and assume that they are all fake, you might be wrong one or two times.

The conspiracy theory is 'probably' fake. My evidence for this is no-joke, extremely compelling. My evidence is that it is a conspiracy theory, and therefore must be assumed fake until proven true, and all proof must be assumed fake until examined in manner that eliminates even the possibility of faking.

Having said all that, if was in the interest of the Chinese government to fake something like this, they would do it in a heartbeat, without a second thought, and ten times faster than Move-on.org can claim that its all Bush's fault.

Gah, too many variables.

Even if its not the official video, what is it?

Who the hell has spacesuits and a pool that big, with the equipment to fake everything?

Even if it was their training.. why would there be a massive backdrop of the earth there?

Quite clearly bubbles there, debris would not move away from them, it would float there and it would definately not gain speed.

Regardless of whether they went to space or not the chinese spaceprogram isn't really there to dazzle the outside world but to boost the own peoples morale, so as long as the starving peasants believe in the greener grass that's all that matters.

why would they fake it? China is an economic superpower with the human and material resources as well as the political will to pull this off without doing some elaborate fake that some old china-man will confess too on his deathbed.

US never went to the moon either, so what's new.

I always thought the actual conspiracy theory went like:
They HAVE been to the moon, several times. It's just... the FIRST time they went there, they screwed up the "taking picture" part and thus faked 'em on earth, afterwards.

And then there is this variation of this, which goes like ... they went to the moon, just failed to do so on the first try and therefore faked the landing because of the cold war or something like that.

Personally I like variant number one. It's not that crazy but you still can go conspiracy theorist all over it, if you please Very Happy

China may be a superpower it's just that whoever is leading that country is not equally intelligent.

I would have to see the original video and look for the clues they referenced. It could be that this youtube vid of it has been edited.

I don't doubt that the Chinese could have pulled off the space walk, but when I did watch the original video earlier in the year the high quality of it did surprise me. I had just assumed that NASA was using a lot of legacy technology (shuttles were built in the 70's and 80's after all) and that the Chinese had the opportunity to use up to date equipment since these modules are pretty new.

The problem is that the Chinese, while very capable, fake a lot of things. The fake singer in the opening ceremony. I thought the girl she was replacing (the one whose voice was used) was quite cute and would have portrayed an equally positive image of China. So that was a case of unnecessary deception. Before this space mission had taken off, the Xinhua (sp) official press agency issued a story that the launch went smoothly and according to plan. The story was pulled from the website hours later. Another case of unnecessary deception. So while I have no reason to doubt they pulled off a successful spacewalk, I would not be surprised if this video was another case of unnecessary deception.

I think what we are seeing here is some sort of inferiority complex. They need to lighten up. Dozens of astronauts died in the space race and NASA has had some spectacular failures over the years. The chinese just seem overly scared at being embarrassed.

PS> I do recall thinking that the flag flapping was strange when I watched the first video. I don't recall bubbles or the lights.

And they had a good time at the factory watching all those chocolate bars whizzing down the conveyor belt.

On the video though:
The orbit was pretty low in comparison to those I've seen of astronauts fixing the Hubble Telescope etc, the earth did seem a lot larger than the other vids. Someone said about hte square bubble and when I paused the video, it did look a bit cubic for a bubble. A bit of debris maybe? A nut that the astronaut accidentally nudged maybe? The angle it went may be the reason it seemed to accelerate.

TBH, I really think it's a conspiracy theory designed to undermine the Chinese. The cold war still exists to a certain degree and it wouldn't do to allow a communist country to be seen as an equal to the Western countriesRolling Eyes Politics and propaganda go hand in hand.

how can you fake a mission to the moon?

thats 7,840 kg (total mass) of Chinese rocket in space.

thats something you can easily see. and very hard to hide.Rolling Eyes

Fire up a dummy mass, superimpose images taken by cameras on the actual dummy craft onto a background of the astronauts on earth underwater. In the news they allways have nice backgrounds, they sit in front of a green screen the whole time and superimpose images in real time. Would be tricky but keep the quality low (bandwiddth is expensive Wink ) and have them in the suits in the watertank... I think it could be done if you were determined enough given the shear amount of capital Hollywood has invested in special effects techniques.

At the end of the day, it would probably be simpler to just send astronauts into space Laughing
