Today (02-06) is ofc due to server issues.
I replaced my router for a newer and better one, and don't have socket closed errors anymore :) |

Well, after a few fun filled days of being able to play, I'm back to not being able to log in.
The socket (while playing) Sometimes closed every 5 minutes, and sometimes every hour or 2. I'm starting to think it's on my end, not CCP's... |

I also get the 'Socket was Closed' message, at about the same intervals, and sometimes my CCP.exe locks up after it (it never does this when I quit myself), and starting today, it is going to server status:unknown for a few minutes following each crash.
Come on CCP, figure this out. |

Edited by: Fractal Eye on 05/06/2009 21:30:52Edited by: Fractal Eye on 05/06/2009 21:25:15 I recently have been having these problems as well. At first, I thought it was my wireless router; however, took it out of the loop, and it still happens. I've recently been running PingPlotter to try to make sense of these excessive disconnects, and I've noticed 1 hop in the list has excessive Packet Loss (192.205.32.xxx, normally 142, 222 as last 3 digits). Most of the time, this hop has 30-47% packet loss. I realize this isn't probably isn't the cause of my problem, but I'm sure it doesn't help any lol. I'm about to try to change out my DSL modem (mine is currently pretty 'old', so I'm hoping it crapped out and that's all it is.) I've also changed my network card b/c I had and integrated one. I'm running PingPlotter and saving the results to a text file so I can send it to CCP (although, I'm beginning to believe it won't solve my problem). The corporation in charge of the 1 hop w/ high packet loss is called Enterprise IP Group. I'm not sure, but I *think* I remember reading on forums about them before. Well, now I'm just applying my T2 tin-foil hat. (I've dropped carrier twice while writing this lol) Hopefully, a different modem will help it; if not, I guess I'll log in to change skills. No, I'm not quitting; therefore, no, you can't haz my stuff. I'm posting this here b/c I get the socket closed message sometimes (along with the 'transport was not completed' message. tl;dr: Disconnecting left, right and center. Noticed 1 hop w/ high packet loss. Going to try a different modem. Hopefully, I'll be able to play and not just change skills lol. fake edit: Running Windows XP SP3, and make that 3 disconnects while writing this lol real edit(x2): I suck at forum posting and formatting |

Adding myself to the list of affected players.
I'm getting disconnected frequently, like once every 15 minutes or so. This is INSANE.
And eve is the only game i'm having issues with.
I don't have the time right now to sort out a ping plotter and fileserver report, but i'm running Vista 64 Ultimate, and i'm on Virgin Broadband in the UK.
Narked off to hell and back, Kateryne. |

Edited by: Shadow Watchman on 09/06/2009 10:46:27 First time i have experienced that problem after a big patch (don't remember wich, Trinity or later..). Before that i have played for about half a year without "socket closed". I haven't changed my provider or modem or anything so i think this is not users fault.
Edit: Yesterday during a big fight (500+ local) have experienced a lot of disconnects (5+ per hour). Ping to EVE server was stable and lossless and my second window (char in empire) have disconnected sometimes too, but not so often. I think it somehow depends on the node overload. |

My "socket closed" problem started after the latest patch. Before that I never experienced this issue. I've tried all the suggested fix's in this thread without any success. Running eve on Vista 32. |

I had this problem last year, and it turns out it was the whole internet connecton which broke, the reason for this I found out after yelling at support was that the Modem couldnøt keep up with the transmisison speeds and reset itself ever so often.
Have a chat with your ISP and ensure that they are notr transmitting faster than your modem can receive, or it will cut out from time to time, the problem was solved by the ISP setting things up to run somewhat slower.
Hope this helps. |

I have shouted at Virgin broadband down the phone and they've double my connection (from 10mb to 20mb) and are sending me a new modem. I'll let you guys know if this fixes it, and if so i think CCP should put out a notice about it. |

Been having the same trouble the last two days now. Never tried being disconnected before, sometimes I get the socket error and sometimes nothing. Hope this problem gets solved because its annoying to do missions and then get disconnected :D Maybe there is something CCP could fix ^^ |

This has started happening to me over the past few days too.
In game, things just stop happening. My weapons stop using ammo though the activity circle keeps going round and round. It will stay doing this for quite some time.
If I try and open a window (agent conversion from journal, or market or anything like it) it opens up blank, and I get the 'Socket Disconnected'
If I am fleeted with my alt on another PC, she stays connected.
This is getting kind of annoying ! |

The one I am getting this on: Intel QX6700, 6GB RAM, ATI 4870x2, win7-64 (and vista-32 which also has this problem) The one that stays connected just fine: Intel E6550, 2GB RAM, NVidia 9800 GT, xp-32 |

This sounds like exactly the same symptoms I get. You may find that you can still send info to the server, so when it happens you can recall your drones and hit warp to to get out of trouble (provided of course you aren't scrammed), but you just won't see the results. For some reason there is no longer an incoming data from the server even though the port remains open listening for it. I really don't know where the problem with this could be other than the eve server or somewhere between there and my ISP. I know from my end it isn't the hardware in my house (got a new DSL modem in the hope of fixing the problem, new graphics card and other associated hardware hasn't resolved the issue either). It doesn't appear to be my service provider (they couldn't find anything wrong, although without knowing exactly what to ask them to look for we can't really go further in that line of enquiery). Edit: Happens whether running on the wireless or wired connection. Desktop uses wire and gets the problem, both laptops use wireless and still get the problem. |

It actually isn't. From the perspective of the user, it may seem that he loses connection when he opens the market window, or eve-mail or even "when he leaves the client unattended and idle for X time". Some people say that the disconnection is preceded by lag and/or unresponsiveness. What really happens is that you lose connection at some point, but the client does not immediately make this evident (via "Socket closed" or plain "Connection lost" messages) until your next attempt to do something. And even then, some random amount of time may pass from the moment you attempt that something to the moment you get the message. This time segment is what the user usually perceives as lag and/or unresponsiveness. So you have been disconnected from the server, and even when you see, for instance, your turrets active and cycling, and your drones moving happily around, this is what the client is showing, but in the *real eve world* (ie the server) your ship has long ago departed the spot, your drones have been abandoned there (you see no ammo consumption, which is a database update, but you see weapon cycle, which is an client task). But most of the time it is not until you try to do something that requires a server response that you get the disconnection message. If you leave the client unattended, it will reach a timeout at some point, so you'll see the error message when you go back to the PC after being afk. And to add to the confusion, many many times when i run two clients on the same PC, only one of them gets the "Socket Closed" message and the other continues to run fine, even when the "surviving one" was absolutely idle. |

This socked closed error started for me in Feburary, out of the blue. Nothing on my end changed at all, router, cable modem, NIC, internet connection, nothing. I've done everything on my end possible to try and fix this, from going direct into the cable modem, reinstalled eve client, new OS, all the cop outs CCP has given everyone. The only thing I have found to help at all is to kill everything involved with bit torrent. Exit the BT task bar client, and kill the BT service. Only then, does Eve get remotely stable.
My symptoms are a client/server disconnect, like the server misses a packet and stops responding to my client out of spite, or something. The client continues on for 30 seconds, and then I get dumped to the login screen with the socket error. I've learned to recognize when the desync first happens, so I can ctrl q out and log back in without the socket closed crash. |

Edited by: Thorian Baalnorn on 20/06/2009 08:08:36 OK this is ridiculous i just lost a faction spawn in an anomoly because of this ******ed error that has yet to be fixed.
I had this same problem last weekend. the game became unplayable. during the week i almost never get disconnected unless i afk for a long period. during the weekend it happens every 30 seconds- couple hours.
Im starting to think this has something to do with apoc or a patch for apoc, since it started happening then and has got progressively worse.
I know its not on my end because: 1) nothing has changed on my pc in many months 2) my connection never lags out and has supurb latency. 3) i only experience massive lag or socket closed ON THE WEEKEND and ONLY ON EVE SITES( forums) or the eve server. everything else on the pc works loads and downloads just fine. 4) I notice that i d/c more in heavily populated regions compared to say a 0.0 region. Though it happens in both. it doesnt seem to matter what the server population is.
its either something due to a client/server desync or more than likely due to the CCPs ISP .Perhaps its time to upgrade or change ISPs for CCP.
Oh and since i can only play on weekdays without constant d/cs WHEN IM AT WORK do i get a discount... 1/2 service 1/2 price right?
EDIT TO ADD: I also have two pcs in my house. my desktop runs vista 32 bit and is cabled to the modem( which runs off a wifi ISP connection.) My other pc that my g/f uses is a notebook with xp and runs wireless to the modem. She disconnects only a 1/4 of the amount of times i do even when we are in the same system doing the exact same thing. She still gets the socket error but not nearly as much as i do. So perhaps its an issue between vista and the client. Something they changed when they basically reworked the client for apoc. |
