I like to mine, watch the roids melt before my lasers, and chat in local etc.

I guess I'll be called a "carebear" by some.. Well, its what I like to do, so I no care..

Until this guy shows up.. I'm not gonna name and shame, you know who you are. You come by and flip my hour worth of mining. I must admit I got furious, what else could I do but to engage you?

Then of course, you crash my hulk into smithereens with your rifter. WTF.. You?!?!?!?

This is the end of my mining career.. I can't see why I should keep on mining, when every other guy can flip my can AND blow my barge up.. Not fair.. I know its perfectly fair within game rules, but its just not ethical in my opinion.

Anyway, I won't be mining anymore. Thats a loss for the general economy of EvE i think. Because i used to mine for 12 hrs everyday.

If the prices of your favourite ships have gone up, this is why. Do not kill defenseless miners next time, or you will get hurt more. Its pure logic.

Sorry, I am not quitting EvE.. I'm just taking a detour, I wont be mining any more, I will be doing missions etc

I just wanted to point out that miners are the basics of EvE economy

1) If you're mining in a Hulk, you should be able to fill a can in under 15 minutes. A can flipper doesn't lose you much time.

2) He can't blow up your barge unless you shoot first. Don't shoot first.

3) I think the EVE economy will manage.

On the off chance this ISN'T the obvious troll it appears to be...

* There's a reason the jetcan mining EXPLOIT that is significantly rewarding for the usual miner got turned into a FEATURE instead of removed : because it's risky in more than just one way (initially it was only risky in one way, until carebears complained about the inability to engage the thief, and now you have two types of danger)

* There's a reason you don't HAVE to shoot whoever "stole your ore" (which brings us to an adaptation of EVE's main rules : don't engage a flashy red in highsec in anything you can't afford to lose... and don't jetcan what you can't afford to lose), you can just, you know, let it be, maybe NOT use a jetcan next time ?

* There's a reason the Hulk's cargohold is positively huge, take the hint and use it to full advantage in a NON-JETCAN-MINING way.

Also, on the issue of "ship prices going up". ROFL. You *must* be new here. Well, at least you're posting in the correct subsection. But then why are you flying a Hulk, that takes a couple of months to skill for... I wouldn't exactly call that "new".
Well, anyway, back on the issue of ship prices...

Other than the obvious short-term increase post-patch, the only mineral we always have a shortage of is Tritanium, and a single Hulk mining Veldspar 23/7 barely extracts enough trit for a couple of battleships (which also need plenty of the "other stuff" which is quite cheap). If trit becomes too expensive, there's always some alternative way to get it in near-infinite supplies at that price, so it'll stop growing any further... while the REST of the minerals take a plunge and ships don't end up costing much more in the LONG run.

And last but not least... one HOUR worth of mining flipped ?
You must either be a moron (leaving multiple cans just like that) or a horrible, HORRIBLE miner (you should have gotten multiple cans).
You will not be missed as a miner, and your "but I do the right things and everybody else is unfair" attitude will make for a good comic relief in MD/CP/GD or wherever you will be posting from now on, depending on what path you take other than mining.

When I see posts like this, I really feel for the common miner trying to scrap a living in EVE. It's bad enough that griefers are given all of lowsec and nullsec to play in, but they keep wanting to bother people who are just trying to play their own game in highsec as well!!
Kachak, I honestly hope you keep playing EVE and find something, or somewhere where you aren't bothered for just playing EVE your way.
I hope you're voting in the CSM elections - my favourite candidate so far is Eyissia Cybbial, she's just my kinda person; looking out for Joe the plumber in New Eden. Wink
In particular her views on scamming (which btw is pathetic), I don't know if you agree with them Kachak, but I sure do!

Let me be the first to tell you what's going to happen on your missions. The bad guys will probe you out, salvage your wrecks, and perhaps even loot them. If you get angry and shoot at them, they will shoot back and probably kill you (you'll be fitted for running missions, they'll be fitted for killing mission-runners). If all they've done is salvage the wrecks, but not otherwise looted, when you shoot at them CONCORD itself will kill you.

Other miners and mission-runners have devised crafty ways of surviving during the mining and mission-running processes.

I doubt I'd even be here were it not for the fact that your name closely resembles that of one of my eve buddies Razz

Unless CCP does something drastic, prices on ships will not be changing for a long, long time. Back when I started playing (slightly before revelations I came out) ships were notably more expensive. However since then the ease of mining, combined with the ease of getting minerals (especially high ends) from missions, the addition of the drone regions, the addition of invention etc. have made it ridiculously easy to gather the materials to make stuff.

The prices you see now are rock bottom prices. Any lower and insurance payouts would be more then the price of the ship itself (and this is the only reason it hasn't dropped further).

Prices are as ridiculously low as they are, and in the last 2 years have DROPPED substantially even though there are all those ebil can flippers out there. I promise you, no one is going to miss the minerals you were bringing in, you could take a hundred of your mining buddies with you and it would STILL have no effect on the market.

I'd suggest missions anyway TBH. Mining is only marginally better then ratting in most 0.0 regions, ignoring the pain in the ass rat spawns your hulk would have to tank and the fact that pirates can pick you off easily. The rest of the time you're better off either ratting or running missions. More isk/hour, it's safer, and brings in materials to make not only mods+ships, but rigs as well.

Akita! Rolling Eyes would you stop beating that poor dead horse and let it rot in in grave? Smile

To the OP:

1) Akita suggestion about the hulk cargohold size is right on the spot, mining in high sec you can easily dock in a station every time it is filled (adding some riog to increase the hold size help too);

2) join a corporation so you can share a hauler friend that take away the minerals as soon as they are put in the can (small trick, leave something with no value or a bookmark in the can, so it will not pop when emptied). You will even increase production if some in your group has the mining foreman skill;

3) don't mine in the more busy system, in 2 and a half years of playing I have met 3 can flippers, always when I was mining in a busy system;

4) mine in the mission space. A good percentage of the mission have easily accessible asteroids and no can flipper can warp to you there without probing you. Not as easy or fast process as warping from belt to belt checking for miners (NPC spawns in mission deadspace, so don't think to be safe from NPC).

Procedure to do that: accept a mission, kill whatever you have to kill, check if there are minable asteroids while recovering the loot, drop loot and eventual mission item it in station, but don't deliver the mission.
That will keep the mission space open till the next DT, so you can mine it in peace. If you have a big load of minerals ready and moving a industrial to the mining spot from the acceleration gate will be too long, bookmark the cans and deliver the mission. Your bookmark will drop you within 2 km from the can.

If the mission is particularly juicy as minerals, instead of completing it you can clear the first pocket and then mine it. Doing so the minerals (and the NPC) will respawn for 1 week. I personally feel it is almost an exploit, but it is allowed.

Hey man I totally feel your pain.

I was once warping to a stargate and when I got there, a ship just totally blew me away! And I was only in a Badger! And it was only 0.3 space! Not even 0.0!

Obviously this guy has seen you there in a Hulk, realized you must be totally new to the game (I remember when I was flying my first Hulk, two weeks in), and can flipped you purely out of spite.

I don't know why he didn't run when you 'engaged' him, though. Having my Rifter sucked through three strip miners would be really scary! He's lucky he got away! (Tip for the future - I put 3 Railguns on my first Hulk and just let my drones do all the mining! Not only will you probably not notice the difference in mining rate, but it gives a nasty surprise to any would be can flippers! Fill the lows with Nano Fibers too!).

Seriously though, it's hard to not see this as a troll. The more I read it the more I laugh ... it's kinda like someone saying "I made billions mission running, but today an NPC blew up my Raven, so I'm never going to do another mission ever again."

Though now every time I go to buy a ship and its DOUBLE THE PRICE of what I expected to pay, I can throw up my arms and proclaim "Kachak!! WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN US??"

Your best tactic given the situation would be to come back in your most powerful, expensive combat ship and declare war on the griefer's corp, or if he's in an NPC corp, send him messages telling him how much you hate him and calling him names - I'm sure that will make him run off crying.

I agree with that. I use a Hulk with 17.199M cargospace and I can easily afford to dock every time the cargohold is full.

Same here, I put 5 Giant Secure Cargo containers in there and stagger the strip miners for max storage, can mine for 18 mins before having to dock Very Happy

Thank you for all the informing tips. I will try them all. Well, one by one that is.

But wait no I can't do that.. Because I promised meself that I will never mine again.

And to those who commented and ridiculed my contribution to the EvE economy - well, guys I have 2 accounts and I mine for at least 6 hours everyday in a hulk, so in my honest opinion, you are underestimating me.

The ship prices have begun to rise already. See for yourself.

Bwahahahahaharharhahah, dude I'll buy you a new Hulk just for this epic thread. You think anyone is going to care you don't mine for 12 hours a day, or was it 6, I don't care. Prices won't rise, cans won't stopped being flipped. It'll just mean more ore for the other hulk pilots who have enough brain cells to realise that they shouldn't shoot at can flippers..

Well look no further. Call me romantic, but I do believe in the power of love. I think you and I were destined to be together. That is what made you respond in my thread I believe.

Please convo me ingame so I can marry you IRL.

So you're mining about 30-35 mil trit daily at best, probably less than 30 mil.
Now look at the region and tell me just how much trit changes hands on a daily basis... notice how the graph has all those zeroes cut off because they just won't fit properly on-screen and you have to go to table view to see the actual volumes ? Notice how the traded volumes change in time ?
Well, that's how much you matter.

Yes, I would also like to know, please? I should be blonde, but all the ore dust has darkened my hair! Very Happy

Anyway, if one Hulk mining 6/12/18/23 hours a day had that much effect on the EVE economy, prices would constantly be all over the place. Then again, I guess they are with idiotic 0.01 ISK buy orders, and 1bil ISK sell orders for something worth considerably less.

Attack them, get aggression and have your faction fit CNR blow up, and quit missions too?
