NOTE: Dismissing the fact that you can't hear anything in space anyway! (Real world physics)

It is of my opinion that a good portion of the sound effects in Eve are a bit weak and too repetitive. In fact, it is quite common that people don't even have their sound turned on (including myself).

Just recently I turned the sound on to try it out again and couldn't go more than a few minutes before it just got annoying, so I turned it back off.

I know part of the reason "turning the sound off" is done because its believed that it reduces lag, whether or not this is true, I am not sure. But regardless, I think if the sound effects are revisited and improved, it may make the "Sounds of Eve" a noteable feature of the game.

Sounds in particular that I would like to see revamped:
-Hybrid Turret Discharge and Impact
-Missile Launcher Firing
-Projectile Turret Discharge and Impact
-Cyno Jumping
-Gate Jumping
-Laser Turret Impact (Discharge sounds good)

Things that could potentially have sounds added for:
-Ships bumping into other objects
-Microwarpdriving of ship
-Afterburning of ship
-Weapons Reloading

If anyone has any others feel free to add, or criticize.

Some ideas I have for trying new sounds include things such as hearing an automatic rifle go off through ear muffs (Projectile Autocannons). Or an automation machine switching out tools (weapon reload). Simple things like this.

I leave the floor open for suggestions and critisizms.

I know for a fact that my system crashes when running two eve clients with their sound effects turned on so I just live without. It's one of those things that needs attention or maybe I need a new sound card Very Happy.

EVE is known to crash with a single client too on specific sounds, so it's not your sound card.

i hate personally how Rails have a pathetic sound. 250mm guns sound more powerfull than the battleship guns!

Please revamp the sounds.

and on the subject of sound... why cant I enable using hardware for sound using a creative X-Fi card?

It's EVE Lore that the capsule technology creates the sounds for the pilot for better tactical assessment. Meaning everything you hear anyway isn't real. Wink

Anyhow, back to the topic.

After playing EVE for quite some time, I don't really use the sounds much save for some audio cues for battle assessment (hearing a target, scram, jump gate, etc).

However, I wouldn't mind some revamping of the weapon effects as everything sounds similar on launch or impact. Thinking the caliber sizes being a bit more on par than everything sounding like a small turret.

Most annoying sound effects are cloak/uncloak and gate jump and unfortunately they are the most frequent. This is mostly the reason I have sound in eve disabled.

Cool, so I'm not the only one that feels this way.

If any dev's happen to be browsing through this, could you give any insight as to whether this issue has been talked about at CCP? It would be nice to know if there are any plans to tweak the sounds in the future.

The large hybrids sound like peashooters.

/me agrees with ^

Or at least switch the medium turret SFX with the large ones. Some variety, as suggested, would be excellent.

And I believe that playing eve with the audio box switched off improves FPS by a fair amount because the client is no longer attempting to sync actions with their appropriate SFX.
