Ok so I'm going to be training heat soon, im looking for some info on module positions to act as a heat sinks.

Also does it matter what size the module is?

Allot of people seem to use energy modules such as smart bombs or nos's as heatsinks, do these handle heat better then say a missile launcher?

Some general tips would be nice please Smile

When you want to use heat, use that spare "utility" slot that many ships have that fit say a light launcher or salvager, and replace it with an offlined smarty. You can discharge heat from ur primary weapons to the smarty due to it being a BS mod(lots of hp etc).

But does it matter which slot its in? Ive read that some people put it in a middle slot to try and break up the heat, others say put it in the 1st slot to try and take thr brunt of the heat, ive also read about people putting it in the last slot for the same reason.
whats a good layout for low slots on an armor tank as you dont get a 'utility slot'?

If you have no utility slot, ull simply have to put heat on and carry nanite paste and make sure u dont bust your mods :D

As for the slot thing, i dont think it matters on your overview, but im unsure about it in fittings screen..

Oh dear, lots of mis-information here.

No, it doesnt not matter what module it is. BS modules, smartbombs or not, do not have any more HP than any other module. All modules have 40 HP. All modules are better heatsinks when offline. Choose whatever you want for a heat-sink - in the highslots most use an offline remote rep or salvager and itmight be of some use when onlined perhaps after a fight.

It does not matter what order modules are in your HUD. It matters what order they are in the FITTING screen. Heat radiates in both directions along a rack (e.g. low slot rack), so put your highest heat modules (e.g. two armor reps in lows) as far away as possible, with passive mods in between. It is not worth having an offline mod in lows as a heatsink, but as passive mods dont generate heat, you still want to use them as a buffer between actives ones.

For highslots, with a utility mod, put the offline module halfway between the guns e.g. 3 guns, offline rep, 3 guns on say, an absolution. If you have two "heat sinks" (e.g. a raven) then go 2-sink-2-sink-2.

Strange i was always under the impression the bs sized mods absorbed more heat than say cruise.frig mods..
Maybe not then :P
