Is a cap-stable 834 DPS tank enough to handle most L4s in a Dominix?

Here's the setup:

Uh, yes. Quite. It'll handle full room aggro from serpentis that start in optimal.... easily. Honestly, if you're not even going to fit for gank you should fit tractors/salvagers.

Sorry, I haven't done missions in a long time. Laughing Is 834 DPS a little too much overkill? I can tank just over 500 DPS with this setup:

[Dominix, Dominix 1 Rep]
Large Armor Repairer II
Armor Thermic Hardener I
Armor Thermic Hardener I
Armor Thermic Hardener I
Armor Kinetic Hardener I

Mark I Generator Refitting: Capacitor Power Relay

I think my AFK Domi fit is similar to yours, but I almost totally neglected guns. Either fit is fine really - I'd probably not worry about the AB + Dual Rep as far as cap goes... you generally won't have that worry.

But if you're going to run a gank domi:

5x 350, DLA
2x CR II, 3x Omni
LAR II, 4 hardeners, 2x MFS
SDA, 2x CCC
5x Garde II, 5x Ogre II ...

I really wasn't planning on this being a gank build tbh. I guess I could just ditch the guns and not have to have a salvage ship like I'm doing in my Myrmidon currently. :P
I guess my question should then be... which is better for semi-afking missions, my first or second setup?

The first, because you don't have to worry as much about tank. IIRC, if you drop the guns you can fit an AB and still have the cap to run the reps for 20 mins or so. I'm at work or I'd give you my specific AFK domi fit. ;-)

Haha, tried that out in EFT. With my current skills it'll only last 7m 30s if I drop a Cap Recharger, but I'm currently training Energy Systems Operation IV, and when that finishes it'll last 43m 30s. :P Surprising what 5% can do.

No, not really. It's why everyone always says to get your cap skills up. ;-)

I use the Domi for level 4 missions on the AFK approach and bring my alt (geddon) if I want/need more gank/tank (RR drones). My Dominix is fitted with the following..

[Dominix, MentalMonkey's Mission Dominix]
Large Armor Repairer II
Large Armor Repairer II
Armor Thermic Hardener II
Armor Kinetic Hardener II
Armor Thermic Hardener II
Armor Kinetic Hardener II
Damage Control II

Cap Recharger II
Cap Recharger II
Cap Recharger II
Cap Recharger II
Cap Recharger II

Salvager I
Salvager I
Small Tractor Beam I
Small Tractor Beam I
Dual 250mm Prototype I Gauss Gun, Iron Charge L
Drone Link Augmentor I

Capacitor Control Circuit I
Capacitor Control Circuit I
Auxiliary Nano Pump I

Ogre II x5
Berserker II x5
Hammerhead II x5

This needs both cap skills at 5 to perma run the tank but I guess some implants / manual repping would still work effectively. This won't tank every mission forever, the trouble with Domi is its best to have full room agro before letting the drones out and even on some serpentis missions this tests the tank.

You are on the right lines, just keep training mechanic skills (hull upgrades V is a very good skill) and cap skills so you can drop that CPR for a DC II (doesn't stack with hardeners). Then I would recommend drone interfacing V, heavy drone op V and BS V to get max damage from those drones sentries also work well but I prefer heavies personally.

If you really want to be able to tank everything anywhere and fall asleep...
1500ish sustainable tank, vs gurista.

Rigs:
1 x ANP
2 x CCC

Lows:
2 x LAR
5 x Specific Hardeners

Mids:
5 CR's

High's:
Whatever

Its so inefficient tho, far prefer the gank domi with a 300dps ish tank, keeps me interested.
If you do go gank route, Liangs setup is a good start point.
