Wow, a lot of people over-reacting to this topic, most notably Avon. I don't know you, Avon, but you are coming across like a huge screaming dork, if I were you I would edit all of your posts.

You know, strange as it may seem, you calling me a dork somehow loses its edge when you do it on an internet chatboard. Still, if personal insults help you get through the day, you go for it.

As to no alliance mustering a huge defensive force, ask LV how they think things would have gone with a system hardcap to help defend their home, rather than people being allowed to jump in regardless, and eventually gain the upper hand and win.

Still, I'm sure the Science and Trade Institute run great courses on 0.0 life, and so you probably know far more about it than me.

Hmmm now even though this is a GREAT idea for places like Jita, there is going to need to be some sort of time control implemented for the people who seem to camp in Jita 24/7 AFK.

As a few people have stated many many MMO's that have had AFK lag issues or over population have implemented a system that basically keeps an eye on players and if they have been inactive for any set amount of time they are prompted to answer a random question (usually something like what is 100 + 12)if they don't answer that question within a set amount of time they are logged off.

This is needed because otherwise Jita will become the AFK capital and those players who actually want to play the game that require something from Jita won't be able to get in there to get it.

Now IF this sort of system was implemented over all systems including 0.0 systems it could very well be the single biggest reason for players leaving the game due to not being able to attack sov systems in decent numbers because the defending alliance has managed to get enough people together to very serverly limit the ability of the atacking alliance(s). Now IF 0.0 systems were included in this sort of thing anyone that seriously thinks that alliances wouldn't do this sort of thing must be tripping especially when some players are willing to do just about anything to hold onto their cyber-space and not loose what could be many many billions of ISK worth of ships and other hardware.

Anyway just on another note, I have noticed the numbers of players online dropping lately. In fact not all that long ago it was common for there to be 28 - 32k players online during the times I played, now those numbers have droped to 18 - 24k (maybe it was just during the summer break in the US that the amount of players online went right up & they are just getting back to normal)

If this is indeed the figure, then I thin the screaming is all over nothing. Can't see it having any effect.

People were quoting figures of 300, then 500.. be nice if someone could confirm.

Suggestions for CCP:

1. Implement non-activity/repetitive activity flags. Prompt players who trigger these flags with a "do you want to be logged off" screen. Make placement of these prompts appearance in a random spot on your screen. After 25 seconds if no response. your logged off.

[benefit.. afk and macro runners get the boot]

2. Implement time limits for heavy load systems such as Jita. Player flies into Jita they are given 1 hour to conclude their business and then they are moved to another system forcefully if they don't leave by themselves.

[benefit.. Jita population becomes dynamic not static.]

3. Implement "return" limits to all market hubs. Players who have been in a market hub in a 24 hour period are only allowed to enter no more than a total of 3-5 times per 24 hours.

[benefit.. Jita population is now forcefully limited, people won't waste their "turns" by sitting afk. They will conclude their business and leave]

4. Implement dynamic trading system (sorry folks I can't remember the name people have mentioned for this type of system), allowing for a small, scaled fee for transport of items for sale, to buyers in other systems within your current constellation.

[benefit... this will allow players to spread out in a constellation and do their business rather than sit in one system and fry everyone's brains with lag]

5. Tie CCP Wrangler up, Cover him in Honey, place him on a Fire ant nest and make him learn to write detailed and informative posts that don't leave grey areas for idiots like me to walk into.

[benefit... I don't eat quite so much Crow.]

MA

edit: Limit the dynamic trading function to TRADE HUBS only. allowing the traders to spread out a bit within the constellation.

[negative... I can see this then turning into a constellation with each system having 1000+ players logged into it.

benefit... Trade hubs "hopefully" won't over crowd soon]

I look forward to the new lag free eve, been waiting 3 years now, what another 6 months.

Oh, and taking into account that lag during PVP only affects maybe 20% of the entire eve player base, maybe less laggy playable PVP will allow moar people into 0.0 .

I look forward to 600 Vs 600 fleet battles with only 10 secs lag.......oh ya baby.

Forget it, they won't do it since the resulting active player numbers would look bad. There's something like 1/3 AFK players in EVE, greatly inflating the "concurrent players" numbers.

I remember Jita became overly popular because it was pretty much the central junction nexus for the old highway system in 2004. To this day though Jita is still linked to waaaaay to many systems. I say have it link to 2 systems, calm the whining for the next 6 months, and move on with life. :)

You know they could just build a new engine just for Jita. It will have no graphics, basically it will be like a MUD version of Jita, so you just type like: dock at 4,4... take gist x-type xl booster... undock... warp to new caldari gate.... jump.

problem solved.

The uproar right now has nothing to do with Jita. Jita just started the uproar. This is about the game in general and the lag that affects any serious player. Serious players being those who participate in 0.0 warfare.

There is always eve-search. *grins*

Oh and: what the hell where you thinking when you implemented this?

The 20% of the people that do 0.0 warfare are your free advertising for this game. People buy this game because they want to be in big fleet battles where epic wars are fought out.

Give them that end-game to aim for, it is what is making the other 80% pay for this game.

Don't make the mistake many other MMO producers made when they ruined their own game.

Stop putting money into ambulation and other fancy looking crap. Hire some people that can help you fix your game engine so you can actually run these epic battles again. It's bull**** to say you cannot let designers write code. You shouldn't have hired those designers in the first place, you should have hired coders and simulation specialists.

These are management decisions, management cannot make designers code, but they can decide to hire more coders and less designers.

ccp wont listen until theyre hit where it hurts the wallet. An internet campaign would solve this. Tell the prospective new players the truth about eve, fleet battles are unplayable the nodes cant handle the players they already have and the situation just keeps getting worse and worse. only then would they do something. At some point they stopped caring about the playerbase and started only caring about their $$$$$

Sorry, it doesn't work that way.

I've told my friend how much EVE fleets suck due to lag and how much the game suffers from lag issues. Once he tried it, he couldn't care less about the lag.

It's really CCP's fault for making such a good game. I hope they burn in hell for that.

When something stupid as this happen i wonder if Devs even have a basic knowledge about 0.0 aliance warfere and how this is affecting it.

This sudden act, comes in time when big conflicts in north are resolving and no matter which side will benifict from them they are nothing more but IDIOTIC.

Manipulation off this stupid change (many examples are given by players before me) will totaly ****up current game mechanics and make a lot off people if not all ****ed off.

Secondly u are making a change without much notice or discusions off any kind with player base or testing, calling it temporary fix (i`l rather call it a temporary ****up)

CCP u need to wake up, we know Island is getting lesser daylight as days pass and possibly lack off D-vitamine is showing it negative effect but this time u lost it completley.

CCP, as I understand the problem, you simply have too many players or characters for the hardware and software to handle. You are becoming too attractive a game.

How about this:

1. Increase the amount of char/account to say 5, but still maintain the rule of only one online at a time.
2. Dramatically raise the price per account/month to play Eve.
Say you double the price. Also assume half the players quit in outrage about the new price. So what? CCP's revenue stays the same, and you have half the accounts to administer, and the remaining players will enjoy a significantly less lagged game.

I really don't understand why people are so busily flaming this.

It is a reaction to a major failure yesterday and needed to be done for server stability.

It applies to all systems because creating a special case for one system will take dozens of programmer hours.

The cap is clearly high enough that nothing major is likely to be organized and executed in the first 24 to 48 hours. As a precaution if someone does, CCP Wrangler has already said "...But that's also why we'll have extra GMs tonight." which translates to GMs are watching for abuse in particular and will respond with nasty penalties (I envision nodes being shut down).

After 48 hours of CCP working around the clock they will at least have the cap limited to not include 0.0 and apply another server side patch.

This fiasco will also have the benefit of giving management enough of a kick in the butt to reassign every qualified code monkey from other projects to lag bandaids.

Now think positive thoughts.

Not that I'm who you want confirming, but I logged in to Jita on my alt, wouldn't let me in for too many people - when I did, local was at 790ish, so 800 sounds right.

I think realistically there's a 'softcap' of 400 people fighting in any given system at one time due to lag issues anyhow, and an additional hardcap of 2x that doesn't really hurt the situation.

Well the thing is you don't really need to populate a system with 800 players. You only need enough to lag out any possible attempt to take the system then move your ready reaction newb alt force into the system to lock it down and prevent any new aggressors from entering. This makes it relatively easy to divide your forces to exploit the population cap system in place to defend without firing a shot.ugh

Seriously when you joined an corporation 4 years ago and left it 3 years ago and it makes you unable to join specific alliances NOW because people are afraid you might be a spy because that corp is now affiliated with their enemy while back then they either had a neutral or even enemy standing against them that is messed up.

It is only since short that that finally gangs can be operated normally again without it very likely be a gank trap so thumbs up on that one.

When a game stops to be an MMO because the game its current design destoyed the MM part of it that means the game is over for me.
The kind of behaviour by others ruin the gameplay, be it direct or indirect.
The things happening in this game are really an insult wrubbed in your face and the last bit was allready reached a long time ago for me.

I still hold my hopes abit some expantion / upgrade in the future might attract me back, however the ammount of changes (aka nerfs) are only pushing away further from ever truely returning.
CCP still has alot to do to regain my convidence they want to make it work for everyone not just a few who keep spamming their own views of 'how things should be'.
