1200 people in Jita so I take THAT is the limit?

Nah, Jita is a more powerfull server so its probably around 500 everywhere else.

that would contradict what the devs said something in the line of "the limit is set that only jita is realistically affected"

Well if Gnulpie is right then theres going to be no problem. 800 in a system is never going to be reached by a fleet swarming the system and is unplayable anyway if there are all trying to fight.

People like Avon and others need to stop posting sensationalist bull****.

"this is going to make eve into the next SWG" is the most ridiculous nerd-emorage statement I've ever read.

Can we get some info on the rumoured infiniband project?
surely the amount of money generated by eve for CCP could easily fund this kind of project...
I vote for a stop to all other improvements until a new server using new technology has been created!

Goes back to dreamland and dreams of 400 person fleet battles with no lag.

Wasn't this why "highways" were changed awhile back? Nice fix there. Now we can blob a 0.0 system and enemies can't get enough in to fight effectively. WOW, get's better every day.

During the downtime today, Sunday 21st September, we deployed a new feature to Tranquility. The Stargate will now check how many players there are in the system and deny access if you attempt to jump into it when too many players are present. In addition to this you will not be able to login on a character if the system has too many players. We have also increased the amount of GMs this evening and if you are unable to login, please press the ESC button and submit a petition in the Stuck category.

This is a temporary solution to this issue, we are working on a permanent feature which has the highest priority and will be implemented as soon as possible.

I saw this when I logged in today and I lol'ed, knowing that a threadnought would ensue.

This type of response has been replied to about once an hour for the past 2 years.

What you are asking for is unreasonable, as the people working on the rest of EVE, can't work on the Infiband project. Takeing them off the rest of the eve projects is just stupid. They cant do the work.

Infiband will be deployed when it's ready. Which baseing it on that saying from evey other mmo, means it'll come out 3 months before it should due to player pressure, and see 3 months of issues.

I want it to be deployed as much as you do. And as much as the rest of us. But I'd rather wait an extra month with the game as it is for it to be deployed successfully.

CCP, perhaps now is a good time to finally recall all the experienced EVE Devs who jumped-ship to work on the your new sucky-sucky vampire MMO.

We are all still anxiously waiting to experience the "premium" aspect of this game..

This look son the outset to be a very bad idea, totally changing the face of 0.0 warfare, making taking systems easy... we will see some space change hands very quickly if this is left in place.

max number of men into system, 50 capitals, maintain gang size, use titan bridging to ensure constant flow of gang members, re enforce pos, wait max 2 days, kill pos, rinse and repeat.

I havent read the fine print I'll admit, but somethign here does seem to be amiss. Maybe I am missing one of the mechanics for this feature, but id it is as it looks, it is plainly a crazy idea. Not often in 5 years I have disagreed with a CCP decision, thisone really boggles my mind.

I read somewhere it was Jita only idea, then and only then did it make sense to me.

Thk fk KIA are friends with goons.

This change affects all systems currently, but I'd like to emphasize that this is a temporary fix, not a permanent one. Creating a better solution is top priority and we're working very hard to make it, test it and deploy it in the very near future.

Very near future is like soon, only without the trademark.

The fix, at least for markets, is the ability to pick up deliveries from corp or personal hangars from 1 or 2 jumps away. This means people will not need to be in jita/amarr/rens, et all, unless they're placing an item on the market. And, again, with the delivery methods (Interbus?) they can put goods up on market a couple jumps away from the core market hub and still make sales.

Or, make markets constellation-wide and any items purchased in that constellation are delivered to the hangar of the purchaser at the moment of purchase.

Problem solved.

Another stupid person. I thought KIAEddZ would be more clever. Joining the bandwaggoneers of CCP-bashers now?

Didn't you read the post? It is temporarily, for a short time! Besides, abusing the cap and jumping in people for the only reason to block out others is not allowed as also stated.

It was a quick hack to prevent another Jita debakle today, but it would really surprise me if CCP would keep the cap everywhere up for more than a few days.

Are you all that faint hearted that you think CCP doesn't know exactly what a player cap in 0.0 could mean??? Even though 800 should be enough for the next couple of days. Not that easy to organize a 24/7 of 800 people.

So what's next on the list of "solutions" for the lag issues since CCP is obviously not able to write better code?

a) sharding?

b) node caps (srsly)?

I will restate that I didnt read this whole 10 pages, if it is for 1 or 2 days then it isn't a problem at all, if the cap is 800, then that isnt a big problem, I have been led to believe by posts in COAD that the cap is lower than that.

If this was to go on for a couple of weeks, and the cap is indeed 500 as many others have suggested, it would indeed be a big mess in 0.0.

I have always trusted CCP implicitly, that doesnt change here and now, but I do wander where this is going, and more importantly what this solution that will be implemented in a "few days" will be.

So far it is at 800 and only jita is capped. If 800 is the cap then they could keep this in place forever and we would only see jita cap.

The largest fight I have taken part in was just under 600 and it was unplayable so the cap wont change much for 0.0Wink

They are using our money to fund development of another game. They don't care about Eve anymore as they know it is a hopeless mess of code that they don't understand.

Jita runs on a dedicated server like most of the other systems should.

The rest of the systems share servers, so the cap has to be smaller.

The cap is at least 750 because I saw 750 people in Jita. Later i tried to logged in and got a 'stuck' message. That is why I believe that the cap is around 800.

Besides, don't believe anything which comes from CAOD Razz

How do you come up with that number? From the map? The map shows only a summed up version over a some time and is not accurate. Today Jita was never over 800 I believe. Close to though. But certainly NOT at 1200.

It is definitely not 500. And I don't think it will take weeks to resolve this either. A word from CCP would certainly help here.

What I suppose they are doing, or what would be resonable to me, is that they install the 800 people cap for Jita only - I wonder why they didn't it in the first part and the only reason I can come up with is that they were not able to do that. So it would make sense if they are working on installing a cap for Jita only now.

But as Wrangler said, the eve-wide cap is only for a short time and top priority is to make a working permanent solution. So they are quite aware that a cap in 0.0 is not a solution!!

Only because a certain part of the playerbase starts spreading rumours and panic doesn't mean that these rumours are true or have any worth. Especially since those rumours can be easily proved to be wrong: a look at Jita helped there.

A word from CCP would be good: what is the estimated duration of the cap? And what are the plans for a permanent solution? The only satisfying solution for 0.0 (and low sec) systems would be no cap at all though.

Hopefully, this was at least not implemented as a global limit... But, it most likely was since it's just a temp emergency fix.

IE: Globally set the limit to say 800 people.

Jita would still supports this since it has it's own node. Any other node would crash long before the pop limit went into effect anyway. If this is the case, I really don't see why anyone but the traders are bent out of shape.

Why do this now? Jita has always been a problem - people knew and expected this, except the dumb people who went to Jita on sundays, and eff them - and this solution has opened up a whole new can of worms.

If you're so close to having a permanent solution, why not just wait until that's ready?

A system cap never existed? Interesting ...

Maybe you can explain then the dev blog by Oveur from 30. Aug 2006 where he stated that there is a cap of "...700 people in a single solar system. We haven't hit that yet..." and that was 5 months before the attack on the shipyard in F-T which happened at end of March 2007.

So you say such a cap never existed and that Oveur talked crap in that devblog?
