Strangely enough, I knew youd react like that Tris Cool

I agree with Macca, even though his name is vaguely ironic, football is a vastly overrated sport where personalities and money rules hand in boot.

I'll happily join the 'I hate football' thread.

Bloody stupid game...

Whats worse, my 20th birthday is during euro 2004, my family and friends all love football, I hate it. No 20th for me. No 18th either, that was england vs argentina in the world cup (I think). No 16th either... last euro cup. In fact every other birthday all of my life has been a none-event cus of that bloody stupid game. Not that I'm bitter Smile

I'm Croatian, I live in Croatia (and you have no idae how big it is here, probably only Engerrrlannd rivals our fanaticism for the sport) and I bloody hate football too.
Not so much the sport itself, but the whole massive drunken global euphoria about people running about for 90 minutes and everyone painting their faces and letting out primal screams over the glorious victory of their nation whenever one of the 11 people who happen to live in the same country as them scores a goal.

I don't really like football much either, I do watch the final matches in bigger contests if Sweden is playing though.

I don't think there's much rugby outside the UK, we do have some here, but it's not big. If it ever gets mentioned its more like "Look! Here's something not many people know about" rather than any real interest in it.

I am an American, and i can safely say, that if football (or soccer over here) ever drives you batty, youve got a refuge with us. Wink

Biggest sports here seem to be football (rugby) and baseball (yes surprisingly people still watch it, infact seats even sell out! Shocked). Of course basketball too, but im from new england so i recognise that its golden era has passed Sad. Hockey cant be left out (because i will be beatup/flamed) but its only really popular if you want to get into a fight...

Soccer is relagated to a distant 15th right after slamming your foot in the door Laughing. Indeed only crazy parents seem to enjoy this forgotten sport, although little leage and pewe football (rugby) steals many of those too.

Dont worry, we in the USA have grown used to such criticizm, we are hardened against it. Infact i only just, two moths, ago learned why its called soccer in the first place.

It was originally imported from Canada. Since football (rugby) had already taken the name we called it associated football. Eventaully, like every long word in America, 'Associated' was shortened to soccer.Cool

Im not an alt but dont take anything i say too seriously. Im just trying to have a sense of humor about my world.Wink

American football is not rugby.

In rugby, you're not allowed to pass forwards, and you don't wear lots of armour.

Rugby and football are like England and America, what was it that Patton said? "We are 2 people seperated by a common language."

I know some of the differences, my primary occupation is a computer nerd however. I am in no way qualified to do sports commentaires (im barely qualified to watch sports).
My purpose was to not confuse readers with that many 'footballs' in my post. Rubgy and football have more in common then rugby and lacross (spelling) for intance...

I like your sig btw...

Even though I AM a footie fan (although I find more pleasure being partisan to a club than to a national team), I will always treasure the definition of football as given by former England striker Gary Lineker :

"Football is a game where 22 men chase a piece of leather around a field, and where the Germans win in the end". Very HappyVery Happy
