Even though some attacked ship still has shields, incoming weapons fire can be seen hitting the hull.

What I propose is some kind of shield hitting effect:
If there are still shield hitpoints left, incoming fire hits the shield and lets it flare at the appropriate location. Perhaps similar to the shield booster effect, but only briefly on the location the weapon hits.

I realize this puts more load on CPU/graphics, so it should only be visible at a close viewing range.

Just a thought Smile

For such a deeply absorbing game, the graphical effects leave a lot to be desired. The combat should be awsomely pretty and should mimick any sci-fi films best attempts at space warfare.

Besides the shields, chunks of armour should be seen to be ripped off a ship during enemy fire, holes should appear in the hull when the structure is hit, spewing gases into the void.

Missiles should be launched from tubes visible on the ship.

Tractor beams should be vivible as a turret, and this could be extended to virtually every high-slot module.

Warping is incredibly underwhelming - to negate the flying through planets problem, the ship could enter a warp tunnel in sub-space(whatever).

Pylons and ariels should be blasted off when under heavy fire.

Drones should really dock & undock from the mothership, perhaps with a visible, operating docking bay complete with doors. The same could be applied to cargo cans.

Asteroids could physically get smaller when mined, producing mild dust clouds & temporary debris as they are whittled down.

The shield of a ship should glow when close to a star.

There should be more in a system than roids, stations, gates and planets which btw all look the same.

Check this out, [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/208-Eve-Online] it is pretty acurate and is likely to annoy most EVE players. But there are many truths in this 'review' that CCP should look at objectively.

I know you will burn me for this, but EVE needs desperately to evolve before it becomes too stale.

Nooooo why did i watch that... (aside from it being funny yet mostly true) after all the fact that you can if you so choose play this game in the background much of the time if you so choose to play that way (nice for when i'm playing warhammer online and wan't to play another game without impacting my warhammer time to much) ok yes this game does need some improvement no denying that... though some of its downpoints are also uppoints in their own querky way... i do hope to see some improvements coming that significantly improve it but even currently this is still a game i can occupy much of my time with and thouroughly enjoy it even if some of the mechanics are a bit tedious.... also the not walking around part should also be resolved fairly soon as well with the upcoming station walks etc

to get back on topic a bit more the graphics being improved would be incredibly nice as it would put my monster of a computer to work for once and their server can apperently handle it... the only downside is that such a large and significant improvement as you are suggesting would imerse me so much more into the game my eyes would dry out from playing to much....

Maybe shields cover the hull and aren't a bubble like in star trek?
