Not a bad idea.

It's to the point where general discussion, C&P, and CAOD should be removed. The majority of the posts in these area's break many of the rules regarding the forums. There's hardly anything constructive or interesting. I may have added my own drivel and realized it's all worthless at any rate in these areas. Anyone else agree?

(I guess you can include this thread as well, but it may be semi-constructive)

Yes - most is crap and whining and unreasoned enraged venting.

But just closing part or all of it is no solution.

If you just close GD and CAOD - other sections will be overrun with the drivel instead.

If you close down the whole forum a very valuable communication tool between CCP and the EVE community and between the players will be lost - or rather simply be moved to outside fora like SHC.

Also there are perls and reasonable threads among the flood of crap.

Some issues are real and worthwhile to look into and debate about.

Some are just amusing like the Sherriffs shop jokes or Curzon Daxs song list.

It seems evident from the fact that people keep posting that people still want them even in this state.

Remove something people want for the sake of removing it? No.

CCP would half thier subscribers. A ton of people only login to change skills and actually keep thier account going for the forums.

Well shutting down isnt the right set of words for a start, they are reorganising the forums.

Your drivel is someone elses riveting read. In eve the art of using the forum for propaganda such as in CAOD shouldnt really be lost imho. Just like a library you can close the book(thread) and go try another anytime. GD is always gonna be a mess lol but trying to refine the objectives of other rooms is a good idea.

Oh god don't.

If you shut down CAOD there'll be even more spillover into OOPE.

I like General Discussion, but I dont come here for intellectual challenges, I come here for fun.

I think a lot of people want these channels to have serious discussions. Thats not possible on a public forum. Thats like going to McDonalds and expecting the atmosphere to be like a real restaurant.

The CAOD forum has the potential to be interesting as it where you could findout about all the epic allaince battles but its ruined buy 90% of the post being total crap/spam/smack or some sort of obscure reference to some thing that only the ones posting it or who were in the battle would know what they are talking aboutRolling Eyes.

The real problem is the mods geting so wrong that they let it get so bad in the 1st place, Iv seen 2 post that must of been started at the same time about the same battle but one was a real post that had a battle report and told you stuff about whats going on, the other was 1 line but the 1 line post got made faster so they locked the proper post for being "spam".

A much better way to fix the forums would be to just ban everyone that does a bad type of post for like 1 week or 30 days, Very Happy

I like this idea, if your post/thread gets removed/edited what ever you get banned...and if you persist well... There is a demonstration link below for the process.

Demonstration.

I enjoyed the Hellgate:London Forums more than the game. Useless factoid for the day. But keeping on topic I think the forums could use a little more attention as far as the rules go.

What we need is a good player-run forum, like SHC except more popular (or SHC itself might work if it became more popular).

They would be far more willing and able to lock stupid threads than the GD/CAOD mods are.

I dont think the forums should be shut down, but CCP should be more freehanded with bans against those who starts these threads!

One of the reasons why I joined EVE in the first place where the COMMUNITY and how close they where, even if they where shooting each other ingame! I got good advices all the time! Now, you cant reads a single post in CAOD without seeing trash thread upon trash thread! Im getting fed up with it allready!
