TA was the second best RTS ever made, second to Outpost 2 (IMO ;) )

I hope EA doesn't screw it up =(

*sigh*

I still remember those everlasting battles in TA. A simple 1 vs 1 with no extra rules could easily take a whole day. And I still remember my first 150 Hawk + 10 Nike rush as if it was today... (got completely pwned ofc) Very Happy

Aaaah... they don't make games like that anymore... Razz

Godly game, remember playing hours on end with advanced AI trying to kick there ares in skrimish. Had to reinstall it recently, and im suprised I still remembered how to install IPX on the system lol.

Great game, good time, lots of veriation, to bad Cavedog went down :( Thought Chris Taylor was helping out a little bit with TA:2? At least I heard something back last year about it.

He's making the "spiritual successor" at Gas Powered Games. Due early 2006.

Actually, the first serious attempt to make a TA2 wa sin 1999. When asked, however, a price of $10 million was quoted for the TA franchise. Unsurprising, it wasn't taken up.

The best part of TA is the everlasting resources. You could battle for ages.

Favourite map is that garden map. A huge green battlefield without too many obstacles. You usually battled for the middle of the map, since that could give the big berthas the range they needed.

Never played TA although i always heard very good things about it. I was always hooked on SC the balancing was great in that but what ruined it for me online was the amount of unlimited mineral maps..... its like having Ark in every system in eve very carebearish.

I love Total Annihilation. I played it regularly until 2003 until I made a major hardware upgrade. Actually I haven't touched it since I picked up EVE in June of last year. TA had, and still has, one of the best mod scenes and the sheer options of units and abilities kept me hooked. There is nothing like playing a game with 500 M and E, building yourself into a powerhouse on a 128 map and wrecking havoc for hours. I will never forget the years of fun that TA brough me. Glad to see it being popular here among others.
Phantagram btw is a Korean company. I have my hopes up actually.

Some guy mentioned this a while ago in another thread for the first time, since then the combined effort of DNA and Miami Vice have downloaded it to install it once again. We lan it up over the internet with both expansion packs and everything, drop me an eve mail ingame if ur up for doing a little tournament or 2 on 2, or a 3 on 3.

Yeah, TA rocks, played it more than any other game.

Total Annihilation and Operation Flashpoint (with Resistance addon) are my top 2 favourite games (sorry, but eve comes after those).

Utterly awesome game. Played it multiplayer for, well, more hours than I like to think about. God, what a game. The *only* RTS that I can remember "war stories" about, like the time I.... (you know what I mean).

My only problem with it is something that others see as a good thing - battles that could go forever. Each to his own, I guess, but I prefer a game's offense to be just a little stronger than the defense. Oh, and the fact that ground-attacks always got choked on their own dead. Sure, the corpses and the recylcing were massively cool, but it pushed attacking forces too hard towards emplacements, sea and air. My group ended up with StarCraft, which IMO holds equal top spot with TA (Starcraft has better balancing, TA has more "cool").

...but still, what a game. That first Bertha-strike (smack-flash *BOOOOOM* tinkle tinkle) that makes your opponent scream like a little girl, pee-wees hugging cover while the nukes rain down, a commander holding a choke point single-handed against waves of tanks, a scout squadron exploding one by one over the enemy base with your artillery fire following behind them, ahhhh, the memories!

SURRENDER TO PATTERNING! CORE HAVE DEEMED IT A SAFE AND EFFICIENT PROCESS. PARTICIPATION IS MANDATORY!

How can a game with a 5,000 unit limit, and 250 units (twice that with the community expansion :D) be bad? The TA nukes made Starcraft's ones look like firec-r-a-c-kers. TA was and is the best rts ever. Every other one to date has taken the same route of dumbed-down units but no base building, or upgradable rpg-style units etc. Nothing has even bothered trying to do over the top madness like TA did.

edit: I don't believe the word Cr'ack is filtered. I'm going on a swearing spree in corp chat for this Evil or Very Mad

Played TA for many many hours aswell Very Happy. I didnt have a proper internet connection at the time though so i downloaded new maps/units and played against the ai... with some of the custom ai's it was actually a good challenge too Smile (because they hax0red lol Laughing)

By far the most fun RTS ive ever played, the massive battles and excellent game engine was.. hmm well lets say no one has really managed to do better yet, even after many yearsShocked.

Really hope the sequel will be as good as the first, but thats gonna be hard Very Happy... All they really have to do is make the graphics a little more Spiffeh™, add some fresh units and maps... if they can keep the gameplay more or less the same and balance it out well, we got a winner Shocked
