I'm not sure if this would be possible, but it would serve to make the eve space seem more open. The idea would be to add an extra outer ring of 0.0 regions around the existing ones. However these regions would be totally undeveloped and uncharted(ie Not showing up on the galaxy map at all). No local, no stations and no gates. Instead gates would be replaced by wormholes maybe that would allow a limited number of jumps before dissipating and relinking to a different system(except for maybe region gates. To add to the confusion maybe don't even show system names and just display it as unknown?.

There should always be a route from every system to the region exit.

New complex's could be introduced with smuggler gates that last for a set period of time maybe 1 wk / 1 month? rather than despawning after 24 hours. More enterprising players could stabilize transportation routes by building a bridge network but knocking out 1 JB would require explorers to rechart a new route between systems.

I don't think its reasonable to make probing skills so important, your basically giving vast new swaths of 0.0 to the probing profession. The reliance on jump bridge networks will make digging in even more important. Once you've got dug in with a cyno jammer, the only way anyone is going to get you out again is through finding the right wormhole, and if they are based on number of jumps, iy could be a real problem getting ships in to take out the cyno/jb. It would also make the area very hard to hit with a roaming gang.

Well rather than number of jumps if they were switched to time based (ie. they reorder themselves every week) would that solve some of your issues? Although the entire system based on number of jumps I thought would encourage the roaming gang warfare as it would inhibit the movement of blobs through the region.

I don't really see a problem with the cyno/jb except for the entrance system from other regions. If you knock out 1 link in their JB network, the'll have to rep it or take the long way around. They cant JB it using a titan without having to take the cynojammer down at the destination. On the other hand, a system thats 20 jumps away today might be 2 jumps tomorrow. Or you could wait till a smuggler gate appears in that system then launch your invasion straight through it from your staging system.

Regarding the reliance on the probing profession, what if they made smuggler gates findable with the normal ship scanner like encounters? I chose exploration as my wording mainly because deadspace with acceleration gates would create a totally new combat environment around the gates. Since you cant cloak or drop a cyno or anchor bubbles (depending on how its set up).

what if, in addition to this, they made a sort of temporary gate that could be created by the sov holders, so if they wanted to launch an attack, they could just build this gate, and it would cause a wormhole to form in the system being attacked, allowing direct transit.

There is a lot of uncharted space in EVE which could be used better. The space between the stars.

Imagine giant nebula visible from the surrounding systems which have a link to them via a jumpgate in a neighboring system.

These nebula could be as big as a solar system, and with several beacons to enable movement throughout the nebula. Different areas could give different gases to harvest. Or maybe asteroid belts with very rich ores within them.

Of course, the sec rating of these nebulas would need to be low to trade-off the advantages meaning that pirates and oppertunists could lay in waiting within these giants.

In addition, the overview scanner could have a limited range under 75km due to the thick gases present and that probes wouldn't actually work over certain ranges.

If CCP were to add the player owned stations such as small outposts then these could be located in a safe spot within the nebula, safe in the knowledge that they would be hard to find. But it would also be dangerous to go there.

Just a thought.

perhaps instead of wormholes, they could have very ancient gates that require each ship using them to provide some kind of fuel for the jump activation.
