wow, thats a tall order. well here are some basics, mine and sell ore/minerals and get out of your beginner ship asap. dont shoot anyone/drones in 0.5-1.0 space or concord "eve police" will eat you, dont shoot anyone/drones in 0.4-0.1 near the gates or stations "you will take a security hit still." if you dont want to get shot at by other players stick to 0.5 and above for now, npc pirates will attack you in all but 1.0 space and they get harder the lower the security rating of the system i.e 0.9 npc pirates are very small but 0.1 fly cruisers and other nasty stuff. train skills 24/7, your skills train while you are logged off "im training mining 5 atm." check the skill requirements of any and all items before you buy them so you dont end up with a big paper weight that you cant use. depending on what you want to do the options are vast and go from being a basic miner, trader, builder, npc hunter, to player killers, so unless we know more what you want advice will be kinda thin. if you decide to go the mining/production route contact me ingame and i will be able to point you in the right direction.

What should I look for in the way of a better ship?
Any special place to buy certain things?
Any places to avoid at all costs, besides 0.0 space?

I should look for a corp soon, I suppose. Any ideas? Any to avoid, etc?

as a caldari for your next ship i would recomend a bantam, they do have a pretty good cargo space on them and do pretty well hunting npc rats. from there i would suggest a merlin for group mining, u can run 2 mining lasers and 2 missile launchers for protection. if your going the mining route the first cruiser you should get is a gallente thorax, it will run 5 minerII lasers and has enough drone space to keep you well protected. as for joining a corp its a very good idea, finding one that is interested in the same things as you are may take a little time. i would of course recommend my corp if your into the mining/production/trading side of eve, but i am not impartial.

If you made your character with a crappy int, per, and memory remake your guy with higher stats in those 3. Charisma and Willpower are nigh on worthless.

Int and per are the two most important stats. Those two are the primary stats for like 95% of the skills.

Oh and if you message me I'll send you like 10k so you can get a bantam.

The machine that changes the ! to your proper avatar portrait was broken last time I heard. I do believe it is in the process of being fixed, so your portrait should appear in due time. Smile

Oh, and welcome to EVE *poke*

Don't ya hate noob questions?

I went through the tutorial, but mining is not covered well. How do I find asteroids to mine? I read something about when your cargo hold gets full, you can dump some on the floor of your hangar wherever you are docked. Do you always dock in the same hangar at a location?

Asteroids are found at Asteroid Belts. If you right-click your mouse when in-space, a menu will show asteroid belts in that current system. Simply warp to a belt, target a nice large asteroid and turn on your mining laser.

Once per minute, your laser will drop the ore it has mined into your cargohold - you have several options from there.

1) You can, when your hold is full, warp back to station, drop the ore into your hanger, leave station, and go back and mine again.

2) Open your cargo hold, right click and "Jettison" your ore. A cannister will appear next to your ship, open that, and then once every minute or so, drag the ore from your cargo-hold to this can (Jettison Containers last around 60minutes). Once you have finished mining, warp back to your station, grab an Industrial Ship (Bestower is a good hauling ship), and go and collect all your ore, and transfer it back to station.

Note 2) leaves you exposed to unscrupulous criminals whom may come and steal your ore Smile so keep an eye open.

3) You purchase the "Anchoring" skill, and a couple of Secure Containers, go out to a belt in a system of less than 0.8 security status, and "anchor" the cannistor into the belt, and then repeat 2), but into your secure cannister. Make sure if you do this, to a) ensure your cannistor has been anchored, and b) make sure you then set a password.

Hope this helps Smile if not, post here and I will see what I can do to help Smile

EDIT: And with regards to your question regarding Hangers - you have a personal Hanger at any station you have a ship, or an item at. To get to these hangers you must travel to them, and fetch/retrive items. Smile

Didn't you move what you got from your basic ship over to the Bantam?
And I don't know if you got screwed, but you did not get a bargain.. I got my bantam for 16k.

You need to get a mining laser, then go to the nearest asteroids. Lock an asteroid and hit the mining laser Icon. You need to be at less that 1Km to start the laser.

Easiest way to find the mining area is to right click on space and then look at the menus. One of them should be Asteroid Belts. Pick one and go.. You may also want to book mark the station where you are before you go mining so you can easily get back to it..

Best of luck.. I have only been at it for 3 days and I think the beginning is both a bit boring and not all that easy to get all the details. I have found reading these forums has been very helpfull.

Sometimes you end up paying over the odds and others you'll get a bargain. Swings and roundabouts. Don't worry that amount will mean nothing soon.
