Because I wanted to play an Amarr, but I didn't find the male designs the least bit appealing. Cuz sometimes looks do matter.

I dont really care whether people use male or female avatars, cause in the end, its still just a game.

I am male and personaly almost always use male avatars in games (on extreme occasion i will use female), as I suppose I feel more of a connection to the character that way. Honestly, Ive never really thought about it much, as it was just naturaly what I'd do.

One thing I do hate about males using female avatars is this "if i have to look at the back side of an avatar all day, I'd rather it to be a sexy girls" excuse. Seriously that is so lame. Regardless of male or female, they are all pixles! I you want to get off, go find yourself a real girfriend or short of that, go find some images of real women on the internet (aka- pr0n) lol... dont choose an in-game character for that reason.

No one ever mentioned they were going to be giving the chicken the strangulation of a lifetime while playing a game. sure there was a vid on the tube about some guy spankin it to his night elf in wow but really how many people do?

Its a boredom thing. I know ive worked at places where the chicks werent the hottest thing around but i know i ended up checking them out a lot. why? because i was bored and stuck at work and couldn't just call in some hot chicks or get access to some pron. one of those chicks...well she was beyond milf age but man that body, just didn't want to look her at her face though you could tell she used to extremely hot in the past. once i got out of work would i check out the chicks from my job compared to other chicks? hell no...cept the one with the nice rack..mmmm.....but she was hot in or out of work.

So unless you got a chick, which lets face it if you do you have less time to game, your going to be reaching for the jpgs, mpegs and dvds. But if you use your comp for everything your not going to be able to check that out while gaming so the female avatar will have to do.

As i said its creepy when someone tries to RP that they are a girl. i have no problems with guys picking female avatars just to have something "female" to look at while they game. not check out, just if your going to have something in front of you for hours on end.

Hell lets put it this way. If in RL you were stuck sitting in a chair for 5hours(likely more) to simulate gaming, would you prefer some dude's butt directly in front of you or would you prefer a chick that meets your specifications for hot to have her butt in your face? Me, i'd go with the chick having her butt directly in front of me for hours. If you choose otherwise...welll......you might just be jelous of what the chick is wearing. hahaahh.

I often chose female characters, since I figure if I am going to have to stare at something day in and day out, it might aswell be visually appealing.

I said before that it's fine to play a female avatar but I have yet to play a game where the camera is positioned right at the character's ass. I wonder, how do people see well enough to play such games? Or is the ass staring the only aspect of the game? I'm rather curious myself. When I play games that are third person view I find that I'm more staring at the back of the character's head, the back, or more likely the world around and in front of the character.

Then again, I don't look at pron. I never have. I never "checked" girls out either. Nothing wrong with doing those things but I only see such parts as either lumps of flesh or a place where one urinates, poops, or a part that's used in the process of baby making. I understand I'm not the norm but this is why I have no desire to play a female avatar.

I play male characters without "Staring at their ass." I play them because they're easier to roleplay or relate to. It's just getting irritating when people keep saying "Who's ass would you rather look at." because the answer is neither. I don't want to stare at something that gas or bowel movements pass from. ugh

Sex can feel good, no doubting that. It's just I feel there's very little (basicly none) point in looking at parts because there's nothing really appeasing to look at. I just don't get the entertainment. Humanity is very strange indeed.

The reason for this post is that there seems to be a lot of assumption flying around that it's ideal for every guy to care about what kind of ass they're staring at or how attractive something is.

*Edit* Before anyone makes some comments such as "You must be a child." I'm 21 and engaged. Remember, everyone is different and are entitled to their own views.

I don't think anyone's actually spanking it to their avatar dude. It has very little to do with sexuality, and quite a lot to do with aesthetics. It's a simple fact that the female form is easier on the eyes, though.

(And have you seen the freaking Achura male? It's the difference between having the best attributes and looking at a constipated razor faced zombie and a reasonable asian chica).

Well yeah mate, as I said, I got no problem with admiring real women (As Peter Griffin once said, all women are a "device built by the lord jesus christ for our entertainment")... but a real female is a totaly different thing than an in-game female character.

A better analogy would be this: You are froced to sit in a chair for a few hours, and are to read a comic or graphic novel to simulate the storyline of a game. Would you prefer a Male or Female main character directly in front of your face? Me, well it really wouldnt matter as good story and artwork is good story and artwork.

As I said, there is no problem in a straight man checking out a woman (unless its done an a stalker-esque fashion from the back of your van parked down by the river). But does one have to do so at all times? Cant a guy just play the game?

I am 100% fine with anyone using any gender avatar for the reason of aesthetic choice. Oh and I agree Liang, for me and many others it has nothing to do with sexuality... But for some it obviously does, as their answer to a question about being male but having a female avatar is something along the lines of "Im not gay or a cross dresser, I'd rather see a girls ass than a guys". They may not be greassing the dolphin over their avatar, but you'd be a fool to think that their statement/reason is not sexualy related.

And to be honest, If I played an Achura character, Id definately be a female aswell... those Achura male asian-man-babies are hideous!

First character i roll is something that would represent myself IRL (as good as possible) & how i want to play (evil looking or carebear face depending on the game), that will be the main (male).

The other chars all end up to be "good looking" female characters.

Don't exacly know why but this is what i create with all games, even singleplayer games for example "Mass Effect".

I usually try a male character at first. As hard as I try, I can never quite reach the level of perfection I see in the mirror. Then I try something I can't identify with.

my boyfriend role plays girls because he's an ebil scammer and gets guys off guard using female characters

he makes a very good female impression but in no way is he gender confused and trust me he is a very straight guy

i have had male characters because some of them look cute and i like staring at cute avatars ... it is same way as i like looking at pretty artwork or owning a cute laptop computer

Are you really an ugly bald guy that flies spaceships in real life? You may be ugly and bald, but I doubt you have giant spaceships which you fly around regularly. Why would you play one in a game, then?

As a friend of mine once said...

"If i have to stare at my character's butt for xx hours, it might aswell be a nice butt"

This of course relates mostly to 3rd person games, but it's really the reason most of my characters are female. If i had to stare at a male butt for thousands of hours i'd probably notice i was homosexual after a while.

I really am curious. What game is it that people play where the camera view is panned at the character's bottom? I have never played a game where the character's bottom is all that I could see. What is the purpose of a game where all you see is the behind? In most third person games I have played, you see the entire character. So you see the character's back and the world around them. There's much more than a bottom, the game in question must be extremely lame.

Well, male Achura are ugly as sin Mad so I don't blame somebody who wants their attributes but doesn't want to like an inbred monkey man.

Secondly, you are just picture. I don't even notice the gender of an avatar, its not even important compared to pilots age, what ship they have etc etc.

Its their gameplay experience so if they want to be chick in game despite being male in real life, go ahead! I'm sure this sort of behavior is not some desire deeply rooted in your subconscious self to be female... Shocked

I have 2 female characters in EVE and 2 male. Frankly I didn't much think about why I made the 2 female ones other then maybe creating a nice looking pixel chick to stare at when am bored warping 20 jumps to pick crap up.

I play video games to 1. escape from RL for a little while (kind of like the Robert Frost poem), 2. have fun. Playing a female character helps me to escape by RP'ing someone totally different from me, and it's fun when you blow up a ship and the noob has to say "I got killed by a girl!
And my avatar is **** good looking imo.
