This is a sister thread to: [Issue] Afterburners vs. Microwarpdrives in PvP
which outlines some ideas where AB's would become more viable in PVP compared to their 5x faster counterparts.
Many people in that thread agree that AB's need to be buffed, but also that MWD's should be nerfed. And one of the better arguements in that thread is to increase agility while using an afterburner, thus allowing a tighter orbit breaking tracking more effectively than it does. There's also a small speed boost proposed in that thread. My idea involves applying a negative agility (decreasing the ships ability to turn) while the MWD is active.
I do not claim to be a professional game designer, but it seems like the MWD was not intended to be a module that one could activate to avoid all weapons AND retaliate in full with their own weapons. Also, numbers which would be involved in this idea would be better off not being speculated on by myself but rather just put into testing if this idea gets supported.
The idea, while coupled with the proposed AB buff, would give better incentive for AB use in small gang PVP, but MWD's for things that NEED to be going fast to catch things (interceptors). Of course the agility while using the MWD should be negated when activated on a ceptor, perhaps as a role bonus.
In short, using an MWD will allow you to still go fast, but you'd turn like a battleship. Thus being unable to orbit things moving 5km/s at 20km. While an AB would give you a slightly better boost (provided the other thread gets support) and allow better agility while orbiting to avoid tracking.
