I'd actually be curious to know what Valve "totally destroyed" in the development toolset. Did they remove some of the camera controls?

... so I hear you're using motion capture in CS3.

God DAMN this is going to be epic. I cannot wait.

EDIT: I may be a few months late on that, but I haven't been keeping up. Please release 3 soon. :D

Regular CS stalker here with another update.

Originally by: Ian Chisholm/John Rourke, from the Facebook Clear Skies group

OK I have a release date in mind and I'm pulling out all the stops to achieve it :) It's March 2011, oddly enough my initial best guess over a year ago. With the amount of work needed simply because of how long the film is, this is going to take some doing - but I'm nothing if not obsessively focused :D

There will be ...a teaser trailer and a full trailer, and they should rock up in January and February 2011 respectively. If all goes to plan ^_^

I should now be past most of the technical hitches, a lot of the supporting stuff is done or being completed soon (sets, skins, gfx, etc). Mocap is flying along and working really well as the product and our use of it has progressed. My progress tracker is showing over 25% complete now - 22 and a half minutes done.

Link to the FB group for anyone else wishing to get regular updates.

So no longer Winter 2010, but March 2011... not bad considering this is going to run for an hour and 20 minutes(guessing that from the fact he's 25% done with 22mins complete).
Still cannot wait! It's getting closer!! :D

More than two years now... "Posted - 2008.05.29 16:45:00" and nothing comes nearly close to this masterpiece.
Awesome job. I've watched this movies many times, and it is pure joy every time. I'm sure i'll watch them many times more.
GOOD JOB one more time.
P.S. Can we expect third episode?

Seriously, you all still here? Wink

You know, every time I get swamped by how much of my life this series has taken up, I just have to read a page or two in this monster thread and suddenly it's all worth it.

I'm working flat out on CS3 - my job is now shift work so I'm doing what I can during downtime at work, and doing 7 to 12 hour days on CS3 during my off-shift time. I'm balancing that with spending quality time with my lovely new girlfriend, although sometimes I do rope her into assisting with the motion capture process - I think she finds my prancing about in front of cameras quite amusing Cool

I wish it could go even faster but I'm wholly limited by the sheer size of the episode 3 project. It's a monster. I also wish I could share with you the results so far because I hate making you wait, but you're going to have to wait for the official trailer Twisted Evil The list of improvements is myriad, though - Motion capture is only one of the new things - I've got a director of photography who's taught me proper lighting techniques, more sets/locations, something special on the external shots front, two professional hollywood actors involved thanks to an amazing coincidence, better sound, oh and it's all in high def at last. Also, I think the script is pretty damn good, but most of the voice acting is still fairly dodgy Wink

I've damn near half an hour of produced footage now. I'm working on some action scenes so that I can knock up that trailer you all deserve. I know it's been about 18 months since CS2 came out but bear with me just a bit longer, my MWD is on Very Happy

Keep it up, i know how hard Source SDK can be, I'm monitoring another animator who's work is being delayed by SDK issues.

Also, if you need any pilots for filming, Id be willing to voulenteer. Drop me an EVE mail if you consider it.

Keep it up JR, i know it will all be worth it.

Not doing much else in EVE lately, so I'm at loose ends if you need any hapless mooks to explode. Not, I imagine, that you're short on volunteers. ;)

Seen CS 1-2 a lot of times.

Anyways. Keep up the fantastic work. I greatly envy your skills and dedication.

This movie is beyond good, considering how small the team behind it is and how amateur it should and could be it's a god given treat. Now that I also understand there is gonna come a third I can barely contain myself, so much fun!

Hey good citizens of Eve, I have a request :)

Clear Skies 2 has been entered into the French Atopic Machinima film festival, and there is an audience-voted prize that it's up for, amongst another 25 or so entries.

If you like CS2 Wink could you do me the honour of going here:
http://www.dailymotion.com/contest/AtopicFestivalPrixMachinima/1:32?mode=playlist#videoId=xfyxm8

And clicking on the green tick in the top left of the video. You don't need to sign up or log in or anything Cool

I like to think the Eve community kicks ass, it'd be interesting to see what effect this has on the voting Twisted Evil

Consider it done! :D When I voted, CS was clear at the top by a good 40 or 50 votes. 204 puts it waaaay ahead of its nearest rival - BUT THIS IS NOT ENOUGH DARN IT.

Also, back to page 1 we go.

Well it's Christmas o clock so work on CS3 will be slow for a couple of weeks - so just as a quick update, I'm at just over 40 minutes produced :) Considering that was 17mins mid-october, I'm quite pleased with that progress. The work that leads up to things being produced has also proceeded apace - for example I onl...y need one minor character's voice recorded now, about 80% of the dialogue is lipsynced, only a couple of sets need building, and there are only 7 scenes left to motion capture. Still looking OK for March...

Last couple of updates from Mr Rourke :)
