Edited by: Trenton Napier on 06/05/2009 23:39:38 I have to say, the quality was pretty good.
But the author obviously has a very MINIMAL knowledge of how EVE ships work. Before spending that much time making a movie about EVE, perhaps read some about the game first.
EVE ships are either piloted by 1000's of crewmen in the old conventional warfare way. Or the new way, which EVERY character in EVE does, the Capsuleer way. The pod you eject in? Well that's your little jelly filled pod with a big naked you floating inside neurally connected to it's systems via a "Matrix" style neck jack and a set of goggles. This way the pilot of the ship can control things like camera drones (Why you see in 3rd person) and all weapons systems so easily. Also this limits teh amount of crewers to a bare minimum.
As good as the movie was, and I'm sure it was alot of work and was entertaining, it was still like watching say Lord of The Rings where they replace Gandalf with Batman and Sauron is Carnage..
It just is frustrating to watch. |

Trenton i think you miss the point completely, as stated on the original post John said that it "bends" the Eve universe somewhat so that an entertaining story could be told. If you have a good idea on how pods of goo can interact and create an amusing story please post your ideas!
JR like the others are day one veterans and have seen the Eve universe evolve so think their knowledge of "how ships work" cant really be questioned and should be applauded at the imagination involved to try and bring the feel of Eve and its ships to life! |

You're either a movie critic that is very hard to satisfy, or you should shut up until you actually make your own video/movie. I personally think you should just shut up. |

Or.. had you read the book, which is also prime fiction, there are "cross-capsule variant" starships "equipped with an internal pod gantry, allowing the pilot to be extracted and leaving him free to roam about its structure." (p. 339) Honestly mate, the way forward is to not be so fundamentalist about your Eve. There's more than one story to tell here. |

someone had made a matrix-like comment so the ship interiors and character interaction in the movie could be a matrix like construct and you could still have the pilots in pods peforming assigned tasks. |

i think your the one that has MINIMAL knowledge,as you say if it takes 1000's of crew to pilot a battleship then in fact wouldn't it take 100's to fly a frigate,if thats the case then why is there only 4 in a frigate in the EVE NOVEL.so lets put it a way for you to understand ok.hmm lets see your a pod pilot you get jacked in to your pod then your pod get jacked in to the ship.now how would you be able to control a ship in one spot well you would have all the wiring sent to a central computer then from their to the pod then feed in to the jack in the back of the neck of said pilot,so all you have to do is re-wire it from the central computer to the 3 area's or more that you want as you can see its not that hard to have a small crew.NOT LIKE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT IT BEFORE YOU POSTED YOUR COMMENTS,so maybe next time you might want to use that brain you have before you start posting about thing even you don't know about. yes i did enjoy watching it too |

Okay, some things here. First, CS is obviously nearly completely independent of the backstory. Parallel universe. I doubt pod pilots even exist there. Second, some frigates have a minimum crew of 1. Third, battleships still have a crew of thousands with a pod pilot. The chronicle you want to look for is 'hands of a killer'. |

Guys, just remember that people are allowed to have their own opinion about things, just cos Trenton didn't like Clear Skies doesn't mean he is wrong. Everything like this is subjective. That being said tho, i do think Trenton missed the point, and as Twiglet said it was stated that Clear Skies bends the Eve-verse little in some places. The intent was to tell a story, one that just happened to be loosely based on the characters that we created in the Beta stages of Eve. It would seem that most people on here have enjoyed the story so far for which we will always be incredibly grateful, and humbled by the response of the majority of posters, I am sorry that you are not one who enjoyed it. All I can suggest is that you don't bother watching part 2, as it will probably prove to be equally frustrating for you. Personally I have always disliked the "pod pilot" thing, mainly because I think the only person that looks convincing in an Egg shaped ship is Mork |
