Have you tried to create a deal with Valve and CCP, to create a contract to make a series of Clear skies?

RVB did it and made good money for all involved, I will happily negotiate for you if you want ;)

That really was an excellent piece of work, i was smiling the whole way through it. Realy enjoyable story superbly told. I loved the dialogue. You totally captured how i would imagine the internals of a ship being, except Gallente would be more shiny :D

Great job, i salute you :)

PS - send me a recorded message if you need lol

I feel like i'm going to be the only hater here. The video was fantastic, the idea was fantastic.

The voice acting was ****ing horrible. For the first 15-20 minutes it's forgivable, but after that point I feel like you guys should realize you're not just saying lines, you're acting. Half the time it sounds like you're just speaking the words. "O god we are under attack again" "well **** off with it and get to work." There really is NO emotion whatsoever. For this reason I was realllllly put off by the video, it could've been SO much more. Again, this is why directors exist and actually make money - their job isn't exactly easy or 100% intuitive. If there is a part 2 I sincerely hope that you take these criticisms into account. Try to have some emotion, some depth of feeling. When you do a simple <10 minute video there is minimal, if any, connection to the characters because there really isn't a long enough window of time to get to know the characters. At 40 minutes when it is almost impossible to relate to any of the characters because they have seemingly no depth it becomes a task to really enjoy (in my opinion) the film (which is really what this is).

tl;dr
voice acting means your voice has to do the acting. If you don't speak with any emotion, the whole thing runs flat and it sucks.

But it was a ****ing awesome video
But it could've been absolutely ****ing ****-your-dead-grandmother-and-jesus-still-loves you awesome.

^^Pretty much sums it up. Only one part where I think the voice acting could have improved in the last scene where mr.smith goes down the elevator. His line is to evenly spaced, need to add some emphasis on certain words. I was actually thinking that when I watched it.

I enjoyed it tremendously though! Amazing! I really do hope you do another. CCP should hire this man. With movies like this, I'm sure it'll be worth the cost.

Clear Skies - an EVE vid with a difference...

A mix of Half Life 2 and EVE, an actual plot and acting, all put together for a 40 minute 'pilot episode' format film. Two years of my hard work culminated in this, I'm very proud of it and I hope you like it. It's a big file so there is a trailer as well if you want a taster first.

I didn't post up anything earlier as I'm a believer in doing *then* saying ;)

26mb Trailer:

Mirror list post

Yes it bends the EVE universe a bit. Yes I'm getting a website made for it (with FAQ section!). But gosh darn it I was just too excited to let it lie while waiting for those to be finished :D

Additional:
Blooper reel, "The Bucket", is now up on Eve-Files Very Happy

outtakes ahoy!

First off really nice movie I liked it alot.

I hope for next movie you'll use render plugins availible taking advantage of the full GFX of HL2 (Dont mind this if i'ts not created yet we used it for TFC for HL1.)
The sound except when the music was a bit loud for us non-english to understand.
Else I just hope you use joystick or keyboard for camera movement so you get the same speed and smooth camera following.

Good luck with whatever you do :)

First off, you aren't the only "hater" that has posted on here about it, and like the rest you are perfectly entitled to your opinion, but you seem to have missed one rather large fact, and that is that this movie was filmed as a bit of fun by a small group of friends who have no acting/directing experience between them. Most of the guys involved work for a large insurance company in the UK, and I work in a lab...... not much need to "act" in any of those jobs. All of the filming and recording was done in what little spare time we could arrange to have off together, and it was the first time any of us had done this.

Yes the acting could have been better, we have ALL said that (numerous times), but hey ho some people just seem to miss the point no matter how often you repeat yourselves.

A lot of love went into the making of Clear Skies, Outstanding work John and to your team. Would make an outstanding series for TV. Would blow the others out in to space. This would really promote EVE and bring in new players.
The marketing guys need to get on this and go to work now.

A couple of nice things written by James Egan at Massively.com Cool

Massively.com news report about award

Massively.com interview

Also we just won an award at the International Machinima Expo 2008 - Ricky Grove and Phil Rice are two lovely people, I've just come from the Second Life hosted expo after a screening of Clear Skies and a Q&A session afterwards Very Happy

(note - as it's still happening as I type, the website doesn't have any results up yet)

So again, thank you all for the support, and I'm still not having screaming Americans swearing in my film in order to qualify as 'proper voice acting' in some people's eyes haha ugh No, I jest - each to their own and all that, and with the better audio rig I have this time around, things will improve in the emotive acting area I promise Wink

Oh PS I hear there is a Rickroll going around of CS2 rofl, Nothing to do with me but I guess that's the icing on the cake Cool

This is as clever as a bag of weaxels.

Potential Plot developement, characters that you can be interested in, good balance between action and drama. But the genius bit for me is the way the music was used. Really well timed scoring which was integrated with sound effects and plot events.

this is clever.

Very clever.

I hope there is more coming.

"Yeah, well as long as the funds clear, you can call yourself Elena Gazky as far as I'm concerned."

Watched Clear Skies about a month ago, and only when clearing out an old (and ridiculously trashy) hanger, I came across a sample of Elena Gazky's DNA. I lol'd hard once I got the obscure reference.

All I have to say is this is one huge undertaking by some extremely ballsy and talented people. never mind what you yourselves think or what others think. There is talent in being able to complete the work, and your ballsy to put it out here for some trolls to walk over and try to dump on it.

I have one question to ask to those who have complained about the "voice acting" being bad. Where the **** is your professionally filmed and acted movie based around EVE? If you have one point me to it. Until then don't **** on someone else's work.

Love the movie, and I make it mandatory to watch for entrance into my corp. Laughing

And I await part two.

Can I just say CCP should be paying you to produce things like that it sells EVE really well.

Also CCP should take the idea of mission running and hitting hostile gates as a mission. It would be very cool.

Great job mate whens part 2 out :-D
