SOURCES USED: The subscriber percentages from a recent devblog, wikipedia 2008 population estimates (or newest available), plus a guesstimate of 235k EVE subscribers total.

NOTE : This thread has absolutely nothing to do with the CSM vote.
This just is an approximate number of EVE players from several countries, and the popularity of EVE in that country (percent of population playing EVE).
Funny to see where EVE is most popular, where a lot of EVE players are from, and just how popular EVE is in general.

Interesting stuff, any stats on age range and gender for the general subscriber base?

While an interesting account of the CSM elections, I think those numbers point more to the individual countries' democratic participation, CSM candidate nationality (people are more prone to vote for someone from their own country), and other not-so-obvious criteria.

I for one did not vote at all. I don't care about the CSM - it's just a popularity contest for a free trip, and now that it's over, they will fall into oblivion until they report from their 'great beer trip to Iceland'

But yeah, your popularity sheet is interesting, because it lists mostly Nordic countries in the top - countries which historically have had a larger participation in elections and democracy than the rest of the world.

Yes good point about the European countries. I'm in Australia and we had a bad turnout which is funny since we enforce compulsory voting here :)

Doubt CCP would release that info... if it can be trusted at all in the first place (afterall, you enter your own supposed age, most probably list the real birthdate, I guess, but some probably won't).

estimated world population reaches 6,666,666,666
It's just memorable enough (and recent enough) to use... since it's only an estimate anyway.

Your excel "counts" wrong then. You forgot to include Brazil in the sum. That's what my original excel sheet tells me.

I removed the CSM voting data.
The only data I used was the percentage of subscribers from that country.
What you see here is number of people playing EVE from those countries, NOT number of CSM voters.

Ok then, well then it's even more interesting. Do people in colder and harsher environments like space more? Very Happy Or is it an indicitative value of the internet penetration in regards of populace % in the listed countries?

Edit: To be honest your EVE/Population graph should probably use values from http://www.internetworldstats.com/top25.htm to be truly indicative of population %'s playing EVE. One interesting thing I'm noticing then is Russia has an unusually high subscription rate, with them not even being listed in the internet penetration statistics.

I wonder how many European players already have United States accounts. With the state of the dollar it is only a matter of time until someone has the idea (and more than that).

Of course that would play hell with the way these demographics are gathered. An access-oriented view would give more realistic figures.

How do you enter your age again? It's been so long since I registered an account that I have no idea.

A good way to get rid of most of the noise regarding age is to simply remove the default setting. I.E., have the form have a default birthdate of January 1st and just remove all birthdays starting with January 1st, regardless of the year.

I know that when I have to visit websites that require you to enter your age I just enter some random year earlier than 1985 and leave the day and month alone.

it would be interesting to get a further breakdown of this , for those of us that are
from countries with smaller EVE players base , maybe one day some dev will shed some light on the matter .

afaik almost 100% of young and middle-aged population in these countries speak almost perfect English. Compare with other countries in top, like Russia, Germany and France, where you can live happily all your life without knowing a single bit of English.

So in case of Scandinavian countries there's multiplication of 2 factors - English as an almos official language, and very widespread internet. Also probably people in these countries have too much free time - thaks to welfare almost socialist states ;)
