So either Baronsold stole real money from me or CCP did. Either way, if you have any morals, you would see it's not right. Flawed game mechanics cost me real money.

And this, kids, is why BUYING ISK is bad.
It makes you stupid.

Let's see...
Was this your first courier contract ever ?
Are you SURE it was a scam ?
Was this your first time hauling valuable stuff around ?

To put it in not so many words, you were hauling 1 bil worth of goods in an eggshell.
Would have they been YOUR goods, not somebody else's courier, they would have STILL suicide-ganked you.
It wasn't a scam, it was YOUR lack of experience that caused the loss.

The fact that you somehow think paying real-life cash for that ISK entitles you to some protection... laughable !
You get treated EXACTLY THE SAME as each and every other player who's ever been suicide-ganked.
It was YOUR choice to haul such a valuable cargo in such a dinghy boat.

YOUR stupidity, YOUR loss, NONE of CCP's concern.
HOW you got that ISK to begin with ? IRRELEVANT !
The fact you actually paid money to buy GTCs to sell for ISK makes it even worse... for YOU.
Besides, you didn't buy the ISK from CCP anyway... you paid another player's subscription so he would give you that ISK.

Thanks for the advice. Although it doesn't seem right. That they allow that to happen so freely.

This is EVE, how does that not seem right?

At this point it doesn't matter what any of you think though. I've taken this to a higher level than just a forum alert. I've already filed a formal complaint with IC3 and NW3C. As well as reporting it to my commanding officer in my chain of command. (i'm in the military).

Either way, I am not letting anyone steal real money from me. No different than if a thief breaks into my house and steals something.

Listen, douche bag. I'm in the military too. US Marines as a matter of fact. I'm a Corporal. If one of my junior Marines came to me with the **** you are saying, I would laugh in his dumbass face. And I'm just an NCO. I wish you WOULD bring it up to your ****in' CO. You're gonna get your ass in a sling doing that.

You got scammed in a game. Period. In a GAME.

"I'm in the military" doesn't impress anyone in the least bit.

Asswipe.

unfortunately for you, CCP also supports, sponsors and condones scamming, racketeering, murder, assassination, and theft. In fact, they advertise that you can do those things. Therefore, you paid for a service, which you got (in this case, you paid money for a GTC, which you then traded for isk, after which you were killed by an unrelated 3rd party.) I'd say you got what you paid for. I would have imagined a character belonging to a corporation that brands itself as "Black Dragon Crime Syndicate" would understand this, but apparently, you are not only clueless in-game, but clueless enough in RL to waste my money (since, as a tax payer, i pay your salary, the salary of your chain of command, and of your legal office).

I have to say that the only thing that made this thread good was when he said he was taking it up the chain of command in the military. Though I really have to think he is just trolling, it was funny reading that post anyway.

Nah, I do a lot of region-wide market buy orders, and I set up a lot of courier contracts to get piles of random goods delivered from distant lowsec to my nice comfy high-sec hangar.

The amazing thing is that if you set the collateral to something reasonable and pay a decent amount for delivery, people actually snap these up. It's astonishing to me, but my stuff always gets delivered at very reasonable rates.

So, people are using these for their intended purpose, and people are (they must be!) accepting these contracts and carrying them out.

I am in the same position I do a lot of regionwide buy orders and use courier contracts to get the goods in, I set collaterals based on just a shade above market value of the good being couriered and set the reward as a percentage of the value of the goods adjusted by the number of jumps and general security risk of the route. if im asking someone to go through lowsec it seems only fair that i pay a bit more than the person hauling 2 jumps in 0.9 space.

99% of the couriers I have contracted out have been completed sucessfully.

Yeah, I think that's fairly safe if you do it in a blockade runner.

It's also a slightly different group of couriers, the people taking those missions expect hostilities and are comfortable with the risks of pvp, those on a courier through empire expect a leisurely cruise.

This is where you are wrong. if you paid more than 200M collateral, then expect that you will be carrying items at least 200M in worth. Therefore, you use the same precautions as if you were carrying 200M+ worth. Never mind that you can just double click on the container and see the contents, or that a cargo scan will reveal the contents of a courier package.

It would stand to think, then, that if someone just paid a 1 Billion isk collateral, that you would be using the best tanked ship you could for the ammount of cargo that the courier package took up.

Eve operates on very simple rules as regards scams - as long as it takes place entirely through in-game means, it's legit. If you fall for it, sucks to be you. The fact that you were willing to put RL money into the game in large quantities is irrelevant - that's like saying that casinos are thieves because you can lose money at poker. You should have known what you were putting your money into - if you did, you should have seen this coming, and if you didn't then it's just proof of the old maxim that a fool and his money are soon parted.

Not when the situation is worded ever so carefully, by stating basic facts on the situation. They don't view it any different than if someone credit card scammed you on the internet. To put it in your language: "Sir, this company in Europe stole $200.00 from me." Either way, I gave him all of CCP's contact information and he told me he would take care of it personally, and also contact the legal branch here on base. Either way, CCP can expect some phone calls from several United States military officers; and perhaps even some people from IC3, if they accept my case as well.

You see, I simply see it as a flaw or error that caused me to lose x amount of money. Maybe I can give a better example of what I mean. I go to an arcade. There at the arcade I place real life money into a token machine in order to play on the arcade machines for entetainment. After inserting real life dollars into the token machine, nothing comes out. The machine is flawed, errored, broken. I go complain to the manager and he gives me my tokens. This brings up an even better example. Same situation, but this time the token machine worked. I have my tokens I just bought with real life money, expecting to be entertained with them. I go to a machine and insert the tokens. The machine "eats" my tokens and nothing works. I go complain to the manager and get my token back.

Or how about a more serious situation. I go to an arcade. Buy some tokens with real life money. I go and try my tokens in various machines, none work. I go to the manager and say "hey all your machines are eating my tokens I paid for" the manager says: "thats just too bad life is unfair." Well then I go, exit the building, walk down to the nearest police station and go "Business "x" promised this entertainment but only stole my money and gave me nothing in return.

I'm holding CCP at fault here and accusing CCP of stealing $200.00 from me if isk is not returned.

Or, to use a more accurate comparison, you go to an arcade, buy tokens with dollars, stick them in the pinball machine, and proceed to lose. You then go to the manager, talking about how gravity stole your money, and promise to sue either him or Sir Isaac Newton unless you get a refund.

Just because you're bad at the game doesn't mean you get to play for free.

Well, I've seen stupid before. Like this one time when I was working at a gas-station to put myself through college, there was this guy who wanted to wash his car. He bought the wash-token and went out. This is a drive-through car wash, mind you. Five minutes later he comes running into the store again, soaking wet, and started yelling at me because the wash was broken. The nut had opened his car door and attempted to watch the washing from the outside. Both he and the interior of his car where soaked.

But I'm not sure if the guy above is more or less stupid than the OP.
