Right, speaking as a leader of a pirate corp, and assumign that many piratecorps/0.0 alliances have had many problems over this.

Would it be reccomended that the self destruct ship function be removed as soon as a PVP action has been comitted?

i would love to hear what all the candidates say about this.

If you disable self destruction on PvP players will not be able to get out of a situation where they are held in space against their will by a hostile player. Which means a player can inhibit another play from playing the game indefinitely. A bad thing.

Never having come across this situation myself other than as a means of avoiding clone jump delays let me make an alternative suggestion.

Players should be able to rig their ships as Kamikazis so that they operate similarly to Bombs.Cool Might make ganking more risky.

I would concur with both of the above statements.

I would stand fast on the principal of a pilot having ultimate control over their ship's fate. Self destruction should always remain an option.

so the ability to eject from one's ship is not there either? and the hostile player is not allowed to get the kill he and his gangmates have worked for?

Death by your hand or by another's should aways be an option.

personally I like the idea of a corbomite maneuver myself.

They can just web/scram the pod. If you are in a bubble you get the same thing.

I understand the wish to get a kill but we have to balance it around possible exploits and griefing[that is fairly clearly defined in the EULA].

Would the problem be solved by self destruction generating a killmail? Or is it loot based? It would be much easier if self destruction generated a killmail and left loot rather than destroying it all.

There is another side though, which is the wish to deny your opponents loot. There is a balancing act that needs to be done. At the moment i think a good solution is if self destructing generated a killmail just as mails are generated when rats score the final blow. Look at loot later.

No insurance payout should do it, really.

And how do you eject from your POD ?

If your only desire is the killmail I think your motivation is wrong. Afterall you incured loss on the player (forced him to destroy his ship).

This won't stop people from using self-destruct and ejecting from their ships. Not only do I think that the self-destruct option needs to be kept in place, but I also think that all ships, FOF, within a certain radius need to take a certain amount of damage from the blast, including pods if they are too close.

That's my opinion on the matter. I don't think you'll be able to get enough player support on the side of removing self-destruct. So, it's not just my opinion here, but the opinions of the voters that count.

Breha, a succinct post. I like your idea for a blast radius....

I'd also vote against the pushing to CCP for the removal of a self-destruct button.
