What are the candidate views on faction warfare now that it's been confirmed that corps will have to leave their alliances in order to participate in it?

I'm kinda wondering why CCP made it like that.

Surely alliances can align with factions, just like factions does already.

I think that is a bad move. That simple.

I can understand it from a game mechanic POV, but considering most of the RP corps out there are now parts of alliances, it seems somewhat hasty to release a system that has no Alliance support in it.

As far as I understand it, the overarching philosophy behind FW is to bring mutual warfare for small groups in empire/low-sec and the fear was allowing aliances in would mean them muscling out everyone else. But when you have large (and even small) corps being able to field capital and super-capital fleets I really don't see the difference in allowing alliances in.

Why this is limited solely to empire/low-sec space is also a bit of a weird one. Why can't alliances start claiming land for the empires in 0.0? Hell, why can't 0.0 sovereigns declare war on existing empires for that matter?

When originally introduced into the game, player alliances were envisioned to rival the NPC factions in spatial influence. This is despite the fact that nowadays player alliances are a dime a dozen, many created simply to act as an added buffer against wardecs.

So when I look at it from the perspective of a corp simply switching from a player alliance to an NPC equivalent - the faction - it actually kinda makes sense.

Then there's the "pre-nerf" interpretation of disallowing entire alliances so that they can't just swamp any given area all at once. Limiting participation to the corp level is a clever way around that aspect, and will hopefully encourage more PvP at the smaller scale, which so many people seem to be crying out for, and is what CCP seem to want to get out of FW themselves as well.

So no objection from me, for the time being.

I can understand it from a position of "we don't want alliances coming in and dominating the game". But it also makes it harder to bridge the gap between empire and 0.0. Because the people you fight with in factional warfare can't just jump right into 0.0 and must stop fighting in factional warfare to attempt to claim sov in 0.0.

I am also disappointed because i was hoping for a bunch more targets when I am in empire.

If each pilot can sign up individually regardless of corp that might be interesting.

Its a bad move. Alliances should be allowed to sign up for FW. I don't think its wise to try to preserve the sandbox within a sandbox by barring entry to alliances as a rule. Reality is that people form alliances for many reasons - and becoming uber 0.0 powers with 10,000 ships and Titans is just one reason, not all of them. Many corporations form alliances for access to superior standings functionality - better wardec functionality, and because they want a flashy custom logo in the game representing them. This latter kind of alliance will obviously not unbalance FW but will be denied access by this decision. Its a shame to artificially limit the focal content in a new expansion by such crude means as block-barring alliances. CCP should have courage in their convictions and allow the natural balance of Eve (ie if 0.0 alliances focus too much on FW they'll lose their 0.0 space) to function as a self-correcting mechanism on the server.

While this is a problem, i think biggest problem is that corps which form on a basis of FW will be unable to continue FW if they want to make the move into 0.0 space.

FW was going to be the introduction of PvP. But corps which want to move on to other things will have to remove themselves from the thing that brought them together in the first place.

If corps could sign up without leaving alliances this would solve this problem. even if you didn't let the alliance sign up as a whole. This is because having the few corps in an alliance all sign up is an enforcible mandate.

IMHO it's disappointing but as CCP Atropos has stated this is the first release of FW and I imagine they (as well as all of us) will be watching this carefully. My hope is that this is a "soft" launch just to bed the system in and then they will widen the scope but that is not indicated anywhere officially, sadly.

I pretty much echo the comments of Max and the majority of candidates above...

This is an oversight by CCP and I hope it will be addressed without the CSM needing to get heavy over it!

Er, CSM getting heavy over it? My understanding is that, if there are concerns about how FW is implemented, that Players can bring it up in the CSM forum, and we (as a CSM council) would vote on the issue to come before the CCP council. At this meeting, we would represent the main issue. CCP will then consider the concerns and any possible suggested fixes (I see a lot of concerns being raised in the forums, but not many constructive, well-considered fixes), and then issue their statement about said issue and why they are or aren't going to do something about it.

Take care,
Bruce Hansen (Arithron)

Edit: by not allowing in Alliances, they have effectively broken this area of PvP into smaller battles....

My point is I hope they realise this is broken and change it BEFORE we need to make an issue of it...
