I haven't been able to clearify exactly what the candidates will be doing once elected.

As I understood it, they will not have a direct effect on what will be introduced to the game. So what are they for ?

You talk to them, they talk to CCP.
They make sure CCP listens to what you ("the people") have to say.
What CCP decides to do it's a whole different problem.

Think of them as a really smart spam filter for the forums Laughing

Well it would be nice if they do not only filter the ideas, but even work the good ones further out.
For example: Sir X says nerf shuttles! They turn to fast!
CSM member says right I like this, a new inertia mod of 0.99999999999999 would work out better.

A forum section especially dedicated to the CSM issues is supposed to be put into place after elections, with a good deal of tools available at the elected representatives' disposal.
Issues are supposed to be discussed in there, and if a CSM member endoreses one of those issues or popular support (from the regular players, via some poting/polling system) reaches a certain treshold, that issue is to be discussed in the CSM meeting a week or later after being brought up.
So yeah, they do have to polish that idea, discuss it and so on and so forth, THEN eventually present it to CCP.

Or, at least that's what the documents published say it's supposed to happen.
I suppose you could, you know, read them ?

I would like to hear from the candidates on this; what do they actually think they will be doing once they've signed the NDA?

It seems ridiculous with all these threads going into minutae of changes to the game when as far as I can tell the CSM's influence on design decisions will be microscopic.

I thought the CSM is there to mostly vet some changes and respond to player concern about other changes. For example:

Pre-CSM:

- Zulupark proposes carrier changes
- Forum explodes
- Various dev posts and blogs slowly back away from the idea
- Actual changes implemented are far less severe than originally put forward

Post-CSM:

- Zulupark pre-releases carrier change devblog to CSM for comment
- CSM explodes
- Designers come back to CSM with slightly less severe changes
- Dev Blog posted
- Forum explodes anyway
- CSM says 'shut up, you should have seen the first idea'
- Changes are implemented exactly the same as pre-CSM.

So the only difference is that the forum inferno is less intense and the CSM is the one dodging bullets, not CCP.

Of course, because of the NDAs, there's no way of knowing if the CSM is really independent or just puppets.

Candidates opinions on this?
