1. Do we get decide which side to be on, regardless of current standing with them. Or our current standing plays a major part of influencing it? May be even our ingame character race?

2. Is there a way implemented so that people with -10 standings towards a particular faction they want to work for could increase their faction stanidngs quickly over a period of time? (Which side we are on is decided by our current standings)

3. Will the player corp i am in have any influence over me of which faction i choose to be working for? i.e. most of my corpmates works for Gallente, can i still work for Caldari without changing my corp?

4. Could players fight for pirate factions? or is it only the 4 empire factions

1) Are the Fighter delegation changes that were discussed in previous dev-blogs going to be implemented on Carriers and Motherships in this expansion?

2) Could you discuss with us in more detail about the purpose of Faction Warfare and how it will exactly work?

3) Is there any other significant additions to EVE other than Faction Warfare that will be coming in Empyrean Age. What are they?

4) Is the Orca going to be coming with Empyrean Age?

5) In the recent article on IGN discussing the Top-5 Misconceptions about EVE Online there was a hint about this expansion coming this summer. Is it possible the players of EVE could have a more accurate ETA of release; maybe something with a degree of accuracy to a specific month?

1. Is the availability of tags going to be increased? (From more faction NPCs being around to get blown up?)

2. Is there going to be a seperate LP store for those who do factional warfare, or how are rewards from the FW missions going to work?

3. Is the PvP going to be in empire? Or is it going to be just in lowsec?

4. Going along with #3, is there going to be any new systems? Are they going to be lowsec? (One of my dreams about a war breaking out between the empires is that the there aren't very many "safe" routes for trade between the empires. And I thought that you could accomplish this by adding in a "buffer" of lowsec systems for the Empires to fight over between the factions.)

5. Are we going to be able to choose any of the more minor factions to fight for?

Posted - 2008.05.10 02:43:00 - [35]

Alright, I'll bite. I was discussing the issues relating to faction warfare with some friends and have a few questions. Some of them have been asked already but it's a good idea to post them anyway so you can see that more than one person wants to know.

1) There have been rumours of release of this patch "this summer". Will that be near the start of the summer holidays or is "summer" just another way of saying "before september"? I'm looking forward to playing this over the summer.

2) Where will the actual PvP take place? Are there limitations to what systems I can fight in?

3) Who can I fight, specifically? People who have signed up to fight under the opposing faction?

4) What kind of PvP objectives will there be? What will the win conditions be for encounters? There won't be any POS involved, will there?

5) What will the outcomes of the PvP produce? Will system security status change? Could system ownership potentially change? More importantly, will this affect current systems?

6) Could any long-term or permanant changes happen? More importantly, can the front lines move as one side gains more ground? If so, how is this going to be achieved? In the same vein, is it possible that one side could essentially "win"?

7) Will a corporation be able to sign up and allow their members to fight for a particular faction regardless of their personal standings?

8) I've heard rumours that there will be special new star systems introduced specifically for faction warfare. Is this true? Is faction warfare going to be artificially restricted to tiny predetermined battlegrounds like something out of world of warcraft?

9) Will the system be opt-in? Assuming it is, because forcing everyone into full-on pvp could pretty much halve EVE's subscriberbase within a week, what benefits will someone get while signed up to fight? Additionally, what restrictions will be imposed on combattants? e.g. Will a gallente fighter entering Amarr systems be shot by local police?

10) Is the optimum way to succeed at this going to be bringing a massive fleet? Is there really anything that can be done against this tactic? Will the bigger fleet always be more effective than a smaller strike force at achieving their objectives?

11) Is anything being finally done to better differentiate between systems in the 0.5 to 1.0 security status range? I'm guessing 0.8 and above will be offlimits for faction warfare (I can't imagine Jita's node surving the strain of heavy pvp going on in it), is this true or is there a similar system being used?

And finally, let me just say this. This had better not be PvP-lite. After all the promises that it wouldn't be, you had better pull this one off well. This could go disasterously wrong any of a hundred different ways if not designed well and the complete lack of information on the mechanics this close to the supposed release date has me worried. I swear to god, this has been the only thing that's actually made me want to play eve actively again in the past six months and if it turns out to be some kind of pretend territory war over a few new contested star systems, I'm going to be severely disappointed. I want to fight over control of my homeland.

I also hope you've got a huge beta team of current players under NDA that are already testing the new system out. If you don't have people playtesting it right now or aren't swapping people in and out of the beta team to keep a fresh perspective, faction warfare is not likely to be fun or even decently playable at release. Faction warfare could be the saviour of all those potential subscribers that have been lost because they signed up to EVE, couldn't really get into PvP then quit because they found the game boring. This patch is literally make-or-break for thousands of current and prospective players that want to get in on some meaningful PvP without joining a 0.0 blobbathon. This had better be everything it's cracked up to be, there's a lot riding on it.

Oh for god sake, you need to understand something about how eve is developed. The players pay a monthly fee. Part of that fee pays for the servers, part pays for the devs wages and presumably part is kept to be reinvested by upgrading the server when new technology becomes available. They have devs working on reducing lag, other devs working on new content, others working on shiny new ship models and some squashing bugs.

Not all of the devs have skills which can be transferred into the domain of those working to reduce lag. You don't want the guy writing your mission text to start frelling with the codebase. Not only would no new missions be released but he's not a programmer and would be absolutely no help in fixing latency issues. You don't want the bughunters to start messing with the netcode either, not least of all because there are a lot of bugs that need found and fixed but also because the bughunters aren't necessarilly able to handle EVE's netcode. You don't want Wrangler touching the code either, you want him posting important notices on the forum and generally trying to fill Kieron's sizeable and shiny shoes.

There is a certain amount of ability for CCP to concentrate on fixing lag and that's specifically in delegation of resources. They could spend cash to contract in programmers to work on it. Whether they've done that or not, I can't say. What I can say is that the Need for Speed initiative has been underway for a long time now and has improved game performance a lot in some key areas, including finding and correcting a large number of lag-causing bugs and problems. I should also point out that delegating more resources toward the lag issue wouldn't necessarily detract from content programmers like the guys working on faction warfare.

On to the more pressing matter of the playerbase. If CCP don't continually release new content, the playerbase will start to get bored and numbers will decline. This will drop the amount of money CCP are making and thus reduce the amount of money they have available to pay for any devs and contracted programmers working on the Need for Speed initiative. Not releasing content harms the drive to decrease lag in the long-run. Please stop it with this "fix lag instead of releasing new content" crap.

1. Is their anything being added or changed too help with large fleet battles and lag?
2. Are you adding more 0.0 space with this patch and if so what type of NPC rats can we expect their?
3. Do you have any changes for low sec space with this expansion too attract more players other then Pirates or people just passing thru?
4. Are you planning on adding any new ships or class of ship such as a Sub-Capital ship?

When are pirate factions being thrown into the mix?

Understanding that it has been anounced that FW is coming out this summer and that it has also been anounced that new regions are being opened.

My Question is will Ambulation be included in this release?

Assuming factional warfare:
1) Will factional warfare be optional? (can I just opt-out, or not join any war faction?)
2) How will faction standings work? Will current factions standings be used or will new "war" factions be introduced
3) Multi-race corporations, how will this work? Is it possible to end up in situations where members of the same corp will be in war with each others?
4) Non-Pvp goals in factional warfare? How will those who don't want to PvP be able to contribute?

1. Does the presence of race specific advanced cap ship components for jump freighters on the market now mean that tech 2 or faction capital/supercap ships are coming (a) in this expansion (b) soon(tm) (c) never

2. Will the currently "friendly" faction pairings be dissolved i.e. Minmatar will start to fight gallente, and Caldari fight amarr, as well as their age-old enemies ?

3. If you are from a different race to the faction you would prefer to fight for, are you disadvantaged in any way ? Will all the minmatar currently living in amarr space be kicked out / enslaved / allowed freedom of choice ?

4. Will the current 0.5 security "semi-choke" points be dropped in security, effectively killing inter-empire trade, or will this slightly safer / longer route betwenn factions now at war remain open to ppl not wanting to faction-war ?

5. What other impacts will there be for folks who don't want to bother with faction warfare ?

6. Will characters who are "aligned" with a faction be able to move capitals through hisec home faction space to bring the fight to the enemy on any front, or is the idea to instance warfare in specific systems ? If it is, how do people get to the warzones, what will be the standing / sec status limits ?

7. Will there be any mechanism to prevent griefer camps simply barring the way to the faction warzones e.g. gate access key cards or "commission papers" available from faction military only, which can be "revoked" concord-style by the faction military if they fire on "friendlies" ?

8. Is faction warfare centered on (a) PvP (b) PvE (c) Both ?

9. Since CCP have stated in the past ALL EVE is PvP, will faction warfare include trade wars, market manipulation, the ability to socially engineer the opposing faction some way, rewards for scamming other empire's players, mining for the home faction etc etc etc ?

10. Surely, ambulation will not be included, will it ?

11. How long a skill should we plan to set for this expansion ? The usual advice to set "long" or "timed to end after the downtime" is too vague - give us your best risk assessment please Very Happy

Thank you for the wonderful present of the Jovian shuttle. I love it. And a very happy 5th birthday to EVE.

Question: My one big question is, is tech 3 being introduced into EVE as Jovian technology (ships and modules)?

I am speculating this to be a possible scenario as the Jovian shuttle had sensors from all four playable races in EVE.Very Happy

Q. Since 'Empyrian Age' is yet another content patch, and the fact is that a lot of EVE are complaining that you should focus more on fixing the dreaded lag-monster. How do you feel that the situation is from your end, how are these two separated from a development standpoint? For instance, are teams working on content separate from teams working on network/stability/load balancing for Tranquility?

This is the only relevent question. I can't believe we're considering adding content that will introduce PVP to people without addressing this issue first. CCP until you fix it, you can flush everything else you're working on down the toilet. Fix the damm core game play first, then add extra content.

Will the patch introduce fuel-bays for Black Ops battleships, allow covert cynosural fields to work in cynosural jammed systems, or in any other way fix black ops battleships which came out "pre-nerfed"

I have the impression that no-one exactly knows what feature will actually make it into the expansion, so it's really hard to call...

I will rather wait until I see official information on this 'Empyrean Age'.

Because trying to glean the details from mumbles is no fun, and, while this is certainly a nice advertisement for Eve Voice, many people appreciate some Text.

Lot of good questions here, i would just support this idea. Thank you.

I have a few:
1. Are there any plans to change how Local chat functions (Such as making it so that only players who chat there can be seen)? Or countering programs like BACON?

2. Are there plans to release meta 1-4 versions of items that have none (Salvages, Tractor Beams, etc.)?

3. Are there any plans to fix issues with using two clients? Or do CCP dislike that practice?Razz

4. Could you please add a "Hide Skill Hardwiring Implants" filter in LP store, having to scroll through all of those is a pain sometimes.

5. Are there any plans on changing Assault Ships to make them more viable in PvP?

EDIT: Ah, came up with three new ones.

6. Are there any plans on expanding on materials that can be used and items that can be created for industry? Like new ores, minerals or components. Or the ability to make implants.

7. Are there plans to alow pilots to customize the appearance of a ship (decals, logos, etc.)?

8. Will the graphics for guns be overhauled? And will missile launchers get acctual models?

The question is for Greyscale who is the game design wonk who will be doing the libe dev blog on the new expansion. So yea, he just might have an idea about what he thinks the coolest feature in the upcoming expansion is. Considering he is likely to have had a hand in designing it.

Will there finally be a T2 battleship drone boat?...something like a marauder, but for people who use drones as their main weapon.

Will ccp finish the amarr tech 1 frigate line up and we still dont have one that is astrometric based putting most amarr wanting to specialize in amarr only, at a disadvantage, and will you ever get the gfx right for the tech 2 medium lasers there still mixed the wrong way round.

Will something be done about starter systems and the new-user experience? There exist many problems with it still. While I admit that the recent upgrades have helped quite a bit there are still a few problems, as in Kisogo. In Kisogo, veteran players are baiting new players and veteran players (often in teams or, lacking that, in Hulks) are mining dry the asteroid belts. It also seems that there are still quite a few new players that do not understand how the aggression system works and, if targeted, will auto-target back, think that they are under attack, and fire all leading to CONCORD intervention. They redock, reship, undock, and CONCORD intervenes again.

I really have no solutions to those problems but I do feel that despite the recent changes (which I think are for the better) the new user experience is still lacking. Perhaps it would be possible to create a true starter system where new players start in (by default) and is not reenterable. The new players could mine in their little Ibises free from the influence of other players who might have adverse intentions. When the new player is ready to enter into the EVE universe the new player must pass a multiple choice test (i.e. a driver's licence) before being allowed to leave. I am not sure of the feasibality of this idea but none the less I would like to know what is being done to improve the new-user experience.
