Hello all,

My name is MongWen (Real Life name: Karl Fredrik), and I am running as a candidate for the first the Council of Stellar Management (CSM).

I may not be as known as the other people in the running at the moment, but I hope that does not exclude me form getting your vote. If I do get elected I will do my best to serve the community and my view on any issue that the council will get, and I hope that the elected council will help making EvE go in the right direction and become better than it currently is.

I am not running for my alliance or my corporation, I am running just for the love of the game, and I will accept any out come of the voting, and will give 100% if I do get on the council. And I will not be a yes man, since I really want to understand both sides of an issue/idea before I cast my vote on the matter, info on both sides can come form both the forums, in game and the council members them self. And I don’t mind getting flamed for things I say or do, but if I am wrong I can be the first to say that I am.

On the issue that people apply for the council just to get a free trip to Iceland, I can say that I did not apply for the CSM for the trip, I applied to make a difference and love of the game.

In game I am the guy that created United Corporations Against Macros [UCAM] close to a year ago, and I manly hunt farmers/macros to achieve the goal of disrupting them form making ISK. And I started EVE as a care bear doing allot of trading and mining/hauling, and still have a alt on a different account that I still use for mining and building stuff.

The issue I may be strongest at is the fight against RMT (Real Money Trade), and I will base a lot off my views on ideas/issues that can affect farmers in a bad way.

If you have any questions please reply here or send me a mail in game. And I will get it answered as soon as possible.

MongWen,

Can I ask what your opinion is on GTC sales under the CCP secure system; is this a good or bad thing for EVE?

In my honest opinion the GTC system (the secure trade) has its pro’s and cons.

On one side it can be looked at as a “cheat” for the sellers to get ISK using real money and creating an unfair advantage to others. But it also creates a way for the players that can’t afford the monthly fee to play the game, given they pay for their game time with in game currency.

The other side is that it crates a way that in combats the RMT the farmers/macro miners do create and I would rather let CCP get the money than someone else and give someone to play longer.

I have been on both sides of the GTC buying and selling, and I have a the view that it gives the legit player a chance to obtain ISK without giving real money to someone that exploits MMO players for the sole purpose of making real money.

MongWen,

I have seen a number of members of UCAM around. Can you enlighten me to other polices you might have, being a relatively new player I have not had any encounters with these Macro people, however my previous MMORPG had a similar problem.

I would be interested to hear your policies.

I have several questions, and taking a page out of Talkuth Rel’s book, I decided to ask each candidate in their own thread…

1) Invention – A good idea that still needs work…
a. Have you ever tried invention?
b. What ideas do you have to improve invention?

2) Pilot Security Level – Should it be more important?
a. (In High Sec) – Should Concord react faster if the victim has a higher security level? If the attacker has a lower rating?
b. Should the Security Level of a system affect changes to Pilot Security level changes?
c. Should the Security Level of a Targeted Pilot have more of an effect on the security change of the attacker?

3) Industry – The Creators of Eve
a. Do you regularly build anything?
b. Do you regularly mine?
c. What do you think could be done to improve industry in Eve?
d. You have been asked to help with new ships for industrial characters, describe a few ideas…

Invention is here to stay, and with my limited knowledge of it I think it needs some work.

Yes, I have tried a few ship invention jobs, I have gotten a few successes out of it.

Well due to my limited knowledge of it the problem is that it is kind of hard for people that want to get into it and make a profit of some of the modules and ammo/crystals. So maybe making the whole process a bit easier to get into as well as maybe getting the total cost of invention with regards to the decryptors down a bit so that everyone that wants to take a shot at t2 production (and t3 one day).

A Pilots security level should play more into the game, maybe not in the way of gaining protection in high sec. And forcing changes to the concord / standings / system security level can be a game breaker for some people that use it as a valid tactic at the moment, and suicide ganking is not that much of a problem if the player that is the target of people that employ this kind of tactic.

From what I do in game I can see mission farmers gaining a lot more sense of security form changes that gives people with high sec status more security.

Concord is not there for giving security, its there to give consequences in high sec, and it should remain that way.

I do build stuff form time to time both T1 and T2, both to fill my own needs and that of my alliance mates.

The only thing I do mine form time to time is ice, though I must admit that is much more fun to steal it form macro miners (barges that sit in the same belt day in and day out, not saying anything in local about loosing x blocks of ice).

When it comes to ways to improve the industrial part of eve I think it needs to be friendlier to new players with regards to them to make a profit of building stuff without having to have Production Efficiency level 5. maybe making corporations more important on the market maybe even changing the market in a way that gives the players corp stores and/or create a way for players to select who they buy form and sell to.

As for ideas for ships I think a baby freighter that has half the cargo space of a Jump freighter and be a stepping stone between haulers/transport ships and freighter, can addition, along with the Orca (high sec baby Rorqual). Other than that I don’t know to be honest.

My main reason for running is to present the view on issues/ideas that can affect the fight against them, since me and my alliance members deal with farmers on a each and every day in game, and creating a mile long list of issues and ideas that I want to change into this and that is wrong in my opinion, and I would rather give my view on issues and ideas on a case by case situation.

I am in the running to give my opinion based on what the community wants or views and present that to CCP, and give the feedback form CCP back to the community.

This is quite true. But I must ask, what is your opinion on increasing consequences for those individuals that DO decide to walk the wrong side of the line? Say for example, due to police enforced punishment, offender is denied insurance payout. What would be your take on this?

From my point of view as a player that uses suicide runs as a tactic against farmers, as do some of my alliance members. Removing insurance payout will cost us more, and in a small way remove some off my and others play styles in game. Having more of a security hit will make our targets in game more safe in high sec, and it will be a whine nightmare on the forums if changes like that happen.

I am against making high sec secure since eve is supposed to be a dark grim world.

I will be addressing each candidate with the same questions ableit it might be a little late:

1) What do you think about more PVE scenarios, ones which would incorporate a large section of the EVE universe. Perhaps like a war between the races, or a war against a different race. Perhaps it would be a war against a pirate corp where PCs are encouraged to come help out the fleet. This could allow players to get more of a feel in some way fleet battles as well.

2) Along the lines of the above statement, how would you feel if the EVE universe had a vote in how their races interacted. Perhaps in order to get users more involved the races would submit 'Resolutions' to the players on actions they take. Perhaps the Gallente Federation gives some offense to the Caldari State or vice versa, maybe the resolution to those that are members of the Caldari State would say something like, "Should the Caldari State retaliate with military force against system XYZ for said offense?". Then there could be some possible PVE event taken in that sector of space. The Caldari State can then give real-time missions to players who wish to participate be it material gathering, intelligence, combat missions, mercenary action, etc.

3) How would you feel about opening Invention to invent new items that they design, potentially completely new items to the EVE universe? I believe giving the players the ability to customize items and perhaps make something completely new would greatly increase their involvement and enjoyment of the game. This would introduce even more learning skills for those that want to do industry and allow them to decide how and what will improve ships. Perhaps even allowing researchers to invent totally new kinds of ships.

4) How would you feel if the EVE universe could start impacting in some way on 0.0? Pirates and alliances in 0.0 often have influence in Empire space and low sec, what if the tables were reversed? What if players in empire space could pass resolutions for the races to clear out temporarily portions of low sec, perhaps even attempt to clear out portions of 0.0? The idea here would not to attact home systems, but perhaps fringe systems. This could help introduce empire players to 0.0 and pvp, it could also help keep in check mega alliances and factions. In addition this could allow empire players the 'occasional' chance to get some resources in 0.0 if they aid the initiative.

5) Finally how would you feel about creating and opening events to all players and not just the wealthiest alliances in EVE? There could be many talented pilots out there that want to compete for fame and glory, but may not have the ISK to do it. Perhaps if EVE provided weekly/monthly tournaments around the EVE universe and then allowed the winners to compete in a bracket system up to a finale, it would encourage even more interaction. Instead of just giving some enormous prize once/twice a year, they could give smaller prizes for each stage of the contest leading up to the ultimage prize. These could also include side contests like 1v1/2v2/etc frigate/cruiser fights. Find out who the best 1v1 player is, or who the best tandem team is, etc.

From my post, here:

A Mission Runner gets a mission from his Agent, and takes off into Deadspace, where he/she proceeds to blow up all of the targets. A Ninja Salvager scans out the Mission Runner's location, enters Deadspace, and begins salvaging all of the wrecks. At NO TIME does the Ninja Salvager loot a single can.

[ ] The Ninja Salvager should be aggro'd to the Mission Runner after the first wreck is salvaged, because the Mission Runner owns the wrecks, and I feel that CCP needs to change the current dynamic.

[ ] The Ninja Salvager should NOT be aggro'd to the Mission Runner after the first wreck is salvaged, because I support CCP's current ruling that Salvage is free for anyone with the proper tools to retrieve from wrecks.

Now when people start to ”steal” the salvage when you are still in the mission, there are no real way to get back at them since the ones I have seen in my missions has been in a NPC corp so decing them is kind of pointless.

Nothing is more annoying than seeing the salvage that you want going to other players and you sit there with no viable option other than a suicide run the salvage thief, and if you don’t want the salvage in the first place then you will probably ignore the one invading your mission.

You've gotten my vote as well... Twice. I have recently decided to personally take on the fight against macros/farmers. Those who choose to go that route have to live with giant sec status hits as payment for basically doing the legitimate player base a service. I would love to see changes to the mechanics of the game that would make it easier for us to provide this service. Not suggesting anything drastic. Just something...

Since I started playing Eve, my first foray into MMORPG, I was appalled by the amount of "players" that were not really playing, but looking to profit from either:
1. Cheating to get in-game money to resell, or
2. Exploiting game mechanics to get in-game money to resell.

While I applaud initiative and the desire to get ahead, using a "game" to do so IRL seems a bit ludicrous and deserving of a smackdown. So I found the Macrointel channel and started talking to peeps there. What I found was a group of folks that seemed interested in ridding the universe of these macros and farmers, and I found a calling. I can say with a firm conviction that MongWen is dedicated to the elimination of Macro/Farmer scum, and has worked tirelessly to help out in whatever way possible to achieve this end. The CSM role could help enhance this effort and redouble the efforts towards the elimination of these parasitic and unwelcome "players" I applaud anything to help make accomplishments mean something, and eliminate the "Daddy's credit card has a high limit" method of playing.

Í'm glad at least one of the candidates is making the Macro, RMT and Farming the center of their campaign (After all, I did run the Contra-Macro Militia for a while). But something that has me somewhat worried is that you don't seem to be presenting any solutions, only stating that there is a problem and you want to see it solved. Well, so do we all, except for those that are breaking the rules, or thinking about breaking them.

1. What are your ideas on getting rid of macro-users?
2. Do you mean mining macro's or do you extend your policies, ideas and solutions to any kind of macro use and could you perhaps give us an idea of where that stops?
3. What do you feel should be done about RMT, what changes to the current situation would you propose?
4. What do you mean by farming in the first place?
5. How should farming be prevented and where does farming stop and simple repetitive rat hunting or complex running start?

Speaking as a killer of ISK farmers...

Farming ISK for the purpose of selling it to people on some web site, whether via macroscripts or several workers sharing a skilled-up account, is what the antifarmers in Eve try to stop. None of us care about the regular people who rat, mission, mine or scan out complexes all day, so long as they're using the ISK for themselves or their alts and not transferring to an ISK seller account.

It would be more effective if we could instead grief ISK buyers out of the game instead of farmers, but we have no way of knowing who those people are and CCP can't disclose it without breaking their privacy policies.

1. What are your ideas on getting rid of macro-users?

Getting rid of them is a hard task when it comes to ideas. Since a macro can be programmed to do the same task over and over, it can be easily flagged server side for a GM to have a closer look at the account/person that is only doing the same thing over and over when it comes to mining and the hauler macros that do currier missions 23x7.

Maybe a better communication with the GM team instead off the standard copy paste reply I have seen so many times. Maybe not out right saying that they are farmers/macro users. But requesting more info, giving more info back to the person that petition the suspected macro user.

Having a fully automated system that bans is a bad move since there are a lot of people that mine on a dayly basis, though not on the 23x7 timeline that macros tend to use.

Originally by: Grismar

There is a few differences since we have few macro miners compared to 0.0 farmer ratters, currier mission haulers, even gangs of kill mission farmers.

Originally by: Grismar
3. What do you feel should be done about RMT, what changes to the current situation would you propose?

More info from the GM team or CCP, which contains info on just how many macro users/farmers that has been petitioned and found to be tied to RMT and banned, along with how much isk/items that has been removed form the game. And maybe some other figures that can be tied to RMT. And ofc no names of the buyers/sellers should be made public unless they go to the forums and whine that CCP did remove isk form a player that didn’t buy isk (but realy did).

Since the best way to stop RMT is to show that CCP removes if found, and that will have a higher impact in the lines of people that believe that they can get a away with it, to second guess if it’s a good idea to buy isk form a farmer.

Originally by: Grismar
4. What do you mean by farming in the first place?

A Farmer is normally a player (aka sweatshop worker) that gets paid real money to generate in game currencies and items to sell for real money. but in theory that also includes macro miners

Originally by: Grismar

5. How should farming be prevented and where does farming stop and simple repetitive rat hunting or complex running start?

I for don’t want to hurt the legit players that have to ”farm” up isk for their own use, and stopping down all repetitive tasks can hurt the game. And if I am elected I can not offer the end off farmers and RMT since that is a large task, and I can only offer my support on ideas that can work against it.

Hmm, yes. I guess my problem with this agenda is that it tells CCP nothing that it doesn't know already or hasn't read on the forums a few dozen (if not 100's) of times over. The problem is clear: macro's automate a process that, in the eyes of a large part of the player community, should be performed manually to keep the game 'fair' or 'balanced'. (you can find arguments in favour or against either and that's not what I think needs to be discussed in this thread)

Since CCP is aware of these problems and also of the possible solutions (if only because we keep reminding them), you have to ask yourself why they're not doing anything about it. A cynic might say 'they don't care', or a particularly pessimistic cynic might even go as far to say 'they're probably profiting from it themselves'. Frankly, I don't believe either, but if you do, the point is moot. So let's assume CCP -does- care and has no stake in it, other than the whole time card thing, which is crystal clear.

The only real merit I can see in your programme then, is that you want CCP to go public with information about the scale and scope of the problem and what they're doing about it. Of course, there's a strategic concern here. CCP might well believe that not going public about such matters makes whatever measures they are taking more effective, or at least makes the effects last a little longer.

Personally, I think there are many good ideas out there to reduce profitability of macro use or even make it unfeasible. They all involve changing game mechanics, which is exactly why I would welcome someone in the CSM pushing these ideas and improving on them if CCP comes up with reasons why they can't be implemented. I agree that having access to more information about macro use and how effective CCP is in fighting it would make things easier on people trying to come up with solutions. But I don't think that a lack of this information makes it impossible to try and help CCP fight it by handing them creative ideas that would do the trick and I guess that's what I'm missing here.

All the same, good luck in the elections,
Grismar.
