A corp memer and i were hunting at an anel base in the Bocena (Sp?) system the other night and Mikesnail warped in in a battleship. He was using Microwarp drive i think cause he came at us at over 600 mps. Anyway i was in a rupture i had JSUT gotten a few days earlier and my corp mate was in a rifter as we have not gathered the isk for another crusier yet. This guy Mikesnail Warp inhibited me and sent 2 torps at me. He messaged me with "Give me 2 million isk or be distroyed" Well i did not HAVE 2 mill so I told him. He said "Final Offer 1 million" and started counting down. Well I sent him the isk and then he distroyed me anyway. My question is has anyone out there had the same thing happen?? we are a VERY new VERY small Corp (4 people) and now we dn't even have a cruiser. IS there any larger Corps out there looking for Allies? Any suggestions??

Thank you.

From my also short experience, first no less then 10 people come in and tell you to stop whining and deal with it.
After that said person eventually comes in and gloats.
All the while nobody will answer any questions you might have asked in the post. this will be followed by 20 more posts by the brainless which normally consist of one line or some random and cryptic l33t Hax0r reply which makes you feel sorry for the entire human race and its slow decline from being at the top of the evolutionary scale to somewhere below that scum you find underneath the fridge when you move.

Thur,

Now here is a good example of why you should never pay extortion money. Your best defense is to fight back and insure your ship. I know insurance will not replace the equipment you lost but it will get you another ship.

Hard lesson learned but keep on trucking. Happened to me a few times but just get over it and continue playing. It's all a learning experience.Very Happy

One thing though

With his name on the forums he may well be reprimanded by other pirates for not honoring his agreement with you.

After this experience it is very unlikely you will ever pay to be released again. This is very bad for business for the honorable pirates out there.

And for you, you learned a few valuable lessons.

Next time fit your ship so it won't be warp scrambled that easy. Watch local for known pirates. Warp out if a BS is warping in and you don't know his intentions .. AND you don't want to find out the hard way.

There is no failsafe defense against this happening though but i think that's the beauty of eve.

On a final note. Even pirates don't always travel in a BS. (Even if he does ... get a few friends to help). If you have a good enough standing with your agent you can find out where he is. nothing is holding you back to repay him someday.

All the time. Never pay out, ever. Two reasons why.

Firstly the kind of person that will demand isk for not killing you is obviously untrustworthy as they are immoral. It's all fine and well they want to fly around being a "pirate" but they are still liars and cheats if given half a chance...mostly. Why even the "great" pirate tanks CEO blew up my hauler after i paid him isk in Nonni...which was the first and last time i ever did something SO stupid.

Secondly, Concord will give you 40% of your ship back, so since that wil pay the rare mineral cost you can snail mine the rest from most any system. At the very least its a free 40%. So while it would be more work to replace your ship it is better than being punked by some pirate scum. Pirates have many other avenues available for isk gain and only the lazy pirates can't cope with no pay outs from random threats...still one less lazy pirate in the game counts for something. Tell them to stick up their tail pipes and let them blow you up. If you have an auto pilot set and hit the button your pod will almost insta-warp away and it becomes VERY hard for them to pod you.

too true. It is unfortunate that the forums have de-evolved into this. Thankfully the Mods keep a modicum of decency flowing cross these boards. still decency doesn't mean content and too often no one answered.

You do have to understand though that most often the people replying have seen a thread like this dozens of time before. and boredom breeds witticism.

anyways hope that answered your question? NEVER PAY OUT, it just doesn't make sense and in fiscally irresponsible.

this probably wont be the last time .. however not all pirates are like whoever this was and they will let you go after you pay ..

tip 1: NEVER mine at the spot you warped into the belt from a gate(warp in from a moon or somethin)
tip 2: fit a warp stabilizer or 2
tip 3: get insurance
tip 4: always watch local chat and check tags as people enter local(most of the time these folks will have a negative security rating)
tip 5: dont be greedy, if he finds you drop what your doing and run
tip 6: if your corp only has 1 cruiser, mining in a < 0.5 your risking alot .. there are plenty of nice kernite and omber roids in systems > 0.5 (remember there are hundreds of systems, explore them)

..oops just realized you said "hunting" .. well same tips apply still Wink

This sort of thing sucks.

There ARE pirates out there who have honor and would never do what you described. But then there are those that either scumbag murderers, clueless n00bs, or people with itchy trigger fingers who spook easily.

Sorry about the loss mate.

Suggestions: Be prepared to lose what you're flying (either through back up ships or insurance) and NEVER pay ransom.

very unfortunate, some pirates dont seem to understand the simple fact that if you want to ransom someone...you actually have to let them live when they pay....i guess ill have to start keeping the people i ransom in my address book as references...I have not nor would i ever kill someone who payed...thats just not good business Sad

LOL I'm sorry but honor and pirate do not go together.

Like the others said, never pay ransom, and if you can try to stale for time until help can come.

The majority of pirates do have honor. Pirating is a profession in itself.

There are a few who don't care--they will do anything to earn money, they don't care what other pirates think of them. They are the scum of EVE--don't pay them.

I agree with Gift, my ceoSmile

We have never killed anyone who has paid. The person who did this is not a pirate and is ruining our business. It's not easy to find ppl who do pay and this asshat has just made it even harder.

I'm sorry for your lossCrying or Very sad

I would like to call myself and evolutionist...not a pirate...we are just weeding out those that cannot survive and yes pirates have honor. Someone who blows up somebody that payed is not a pirate but a murdering thief...also note...the said person did demand 2 million and only received 1 million. He wasn't completely dishonorable...

All i can advise is you only pay well known pirate corps (m0o, Space Invaders) for example. These corps will not go back on there word, but there are many that will as you have just noticed.

Hmmm, i spose im gonna have to come back for lineage and keep a litle order in molden heath, just thought youd like to know that mike snail has been podded by me and my corp 5-6 times now, and we will continue to kill/pod him while he give pirates a bad name, and i give you my word that any sneaky magic inc. member who extorts money from you will not kill you, and they will send a corp message explaining that you have paid and are safe for said amount of time.
