Hello

Every so often, Eve disconnects. When I try to reconnect, it does not work - it can't find the server. I can't use my browser either. If I disable and re-enable my network adapter, I can then reconnect to Eve and the internet.

Occasionally, this does not work either, and I have to reset my network adapter to factory defaults to get it to work.

This only happens with Eve.

It's an Nvidia onboard network adapter that I'm using.

Should I try a seperate network adapter?

Yes. get a PCI network card and your problems will go away

Nvidia make quite possibly the worst motherboard chipsets currently available, especially the nforce4 series. (speaking through experience here)

You may find that your motherboard has 2 ethernet ports and on some nvidia chipsets the 2nd port is a none nvidia one, if this is the case try that port before buying an add-in card.

Hmm, thanks.

It appears to be a Nforce 3 series, on an ASUS k8n motherboard.

I'll see if I have some pci ethernet cards handy

I never had any trouble with the nforce 2,4 or 5, but the nforce 3 (what the op has) is known to be a bit flaky.

Sound advice, not because the nvidia socket is necessarily crap, but just because it saves you buying a pci card if you don't need it. Some nforce (particularly nforce 3) boards don't have an nvidia ethernet port at all though, so might only have a **** 3rd-party one.
If you do have the nvidia ethernet, it may also be the nvidia hardware firewall introduced with the nforce 3 causing issues.
If you have the nvidia ethernet socket, a motherboard bios update could sort it.

Sidenote: The most trouble I've ever had with an on-board network socket was an intel network chip on an AMD chipset motherboard. I never did get it to work without locking up the pc, a cheap pci network card works fine though :)

install the proper nforce/hyperion/ethernet driver and it should work almost ok.

although i use an external pci card aswell since i had IRQ problems with my sound (not onboard)

Purchasing an ethernet card seems to have solved this problem. Thanks for help
