OK here's something I've been playing around with. I don't really know where it's going yet, Well, you read it and tell me if you want more. Then I'll carry it on, hey maybe some suggestions. Anyway here it is:
THE ASSIGNMENT, PART 1
The Yulai system was alive with activity, the stargates queued, ships of all descriptions going about their business.
In the Concord Starbase over Yulai IX, Lord Eidolon stood alone on the the upper observation platform. The platform was accessed by a stairwell from the much larger lower platform, and the two sections made up the station Observation Deck. The exterior wall of the Observation Deck opened into a large viewing area of the planet below. This area was protected by force fields, and allowed one to
watch the stream of activity between the station and the planet, and the stars and space beyond. The room itself was
spherical in shape, filled with light from the Yulai star that blazed from outside.
Lord Eidolon stood on the upper level, looking out at the planet, making observations. He was dressed in a maroon-red cape that enlarged his silouhette to intimidating effect. He was compiling notes on a Personal Data Device. The lower level was a bustle of activity; station personnel were busy monitoring orbital traffic flows, scanning for the frequency Lord Eidolon had given them.
The presence of Lord Eidolon made the station personnel on the lower level nervous. Mentide Oralstar turned to Votie Oeitie and muttered, "I hear he went crazy after the war."
Votie swallowed and continued punching commands into his computer, trying to keep his voice low. "He did. That's why the Jovians found him so intriguing."
Mentide barked an order to a shuttle pilot over the comm, then turned to Votie and whispered, "I can't believe they won't tell us what's going on."
The door behind Eidolon opened, and from it emerged two guards who took position at each side. Then in stepped Kilkkuken Mallen, Chief Operative for CONCORD Intelligence. Lord Eidolon turned slowly, looking at her. A short and homely-looking Gallentean woman nearing middle-age, she had blonde hair tucked in a bun at the back of her small head. Her CONCORD Officer's uniform was clean and pressed. She had a look of experience in her eyes. Lord Eidolon bowed his head. "Welcome back to Yulai IX, Commander Mallen. I trust your mission was a success?"
"Thankyou, ah, yes, my...my Lord," Mallen said, hesitating for a moment. "It's an honour to finally meet you in person. I must relay to you how surprised I was when I heard of your involvement in this."
He looked at her. "I will be in command for the duration of the assignment. You will liase between your staff and mine." He turned away.
She stepped forward. "I have been briefed to take orders from you on a top secret operation for the Inner Circle, but I have not been informed of the exact nature or purpose of your involvement. I've been told we're to apprehend a dangerous fugitive Codenamed SUNCRUSHER. You're to have my complete support. The orders are to come straight from you, and my staff, myself included, are on a need-to-know basis." She smiled and raised her eyebrows. "So how much do I need to know?"
"All you need to know is how to follow my commands."
She nodded distastefully, moving closer, staring blankly at his face. "I don't like this. I don't like being kept in the
dark. Whatever you and your group of mavericks have got planned better not jeopardise our lives. I have to trust you."
Lord Eidolon smiled at her. "You think I don't know that, Commander? Come on... if I really intended you harm, do you think you would be standing there?"
She blinked twice and swallowed dryly.
"You... aren't comfortable with my presence here, are you?" Eidolon turned his back and moved away, looking up at the view, his cape draping on the deck behind him.
She stiffened. "Your reputation precedes you."
Eidolon chuckled. "Hear'say and rumour, most of it, I'm sure."
"People say you died five months ago, and that all your DNA data was destroyed, but you came back." She shook her head and laughed. "That's impossible."
Lord Eidolon turned his head to look at her. "I think you'll find many things have changed...since my return."
