Been in the game a while so I get myself a second account. I start the new character wisely, with lots of training skills and a set of plus four implants.

Then it occurs to me, in fleet battles with the Alliance I am with we usually target alphabetically. With the lag inolved in fleet battles this makes sense. Oh crap my new character starts with 'A'

I am guessing that most alliances will in lag fest battles target in alphabetical order unless an obvious primary is identified.

More of an issue when you want to fly through a system undetected.

If you go into a system with 70 people, they might not notice hostiles showing up...

Unless your name starts with A, shows up right at the top of local, and tips them off. YARRRR!!

All things being equal, I've tended towards being ordered to kill the closest battleship target, not the one with a name closest to the start of the alphabet.

Get some free web hosting, fill a page or two with some really nasty racist stuff linked to the spelling of your name, have a friend petition your name for representing said nasty stuff, and get a different name when the GMs contact you about your offensive name.

might work :)

The best way is to give yourself something difficult to pronounce. Welsh is a good place to start. Having a lot of Ks or Ls in your name and few vowels can really make it not worth the bother. Also, long is good. So you can't go wrong with Anfpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwyll. See, it even starts with an A, but no one can pronounce it. So the FC will just say, "**** it! Everybody target Ed."

heh hate to be in your alliance if they choose targets alphabetically

Instead of targeting the dictor who starts with Z you target the heavily tanked bait ship that starts with an A

Or your support fleet is trained enough to know what to go for without the FC micromanaging every support ship, allowing them to wipe the floor with the 200 enemy BSs ;)

You'll get used to it :P

Sides, like someone said, it's more so an issue when it comes to stealth, right away 99.9% of the time I'm right there at the top of local. Not very stealthy to be instantly announced when you enter now is it?
That's why I have a more stealthy alt to help counter that.

But you can look at the bright side of things... Say you're out trying to keep an eye on local or who's in a chat, right away you know you're usually at the top, so you ignore yourself, where as when you're somewhere else in the middle you see yourself and pause to recheck if it's you or not.
