You have proven to be most amusing indeed! BRAVO! I wouldn't have expected such a decisive and cowardly move from you without first making sure that we were all armed with sticks and stones.

What possessed you to make such a bold move? Perhaps you are easily stirred to anger, but let's leave your unhappy childhood out of this until you reach adulthood.

As I recall, the original poster wanted simply to illustrate the unfair advantage that the strong have over the weak in EVE, and that even new players are not granted any grace period, or even a peaceful, as you say "carebear" path if they so choose. The OP laments the status quo in EVE that grants cowards, and especially large groups of well-armed cowards, such an unfair influence over the paid gameplay of others that really, you should be paying our monthly fees if you want to keep lording that over us.

And voila! You have once again illustrated the point. Dude, you are such a genius, I should be paying your monthly fee.

But do you know what? That's not going to happen. I know that ****es you off, but if it's any consolation, I'd pay to see the look on your face right now, and that of the original poster.

You might think it's cowardly for a small corp like mine to dec an alliance like yours. I don't. I think it's hilarious, and I also think it's hilarious that you will be forced to eat every word you have posted in this thread.

You see, this is what Eve is about. Consequences for one's actions. You decided to be a complete **** in this thread, and you managed to **** of someone you shouldn't have. Now you will suffer the consequences, and when you bail out of your corp, as you no-doubt will being a complete *****, your friends will suffer the consequences in your stead.

I hope we can look forward to plenty of fights with your alliance mates, but we don't really expect to see you anywhere near a battlefield, as you are one of those people who are quick to speak but slow to act.

Enjoy your NPC corp, m8.

Is that because .9 is supposed to be less safe than 1.0? Is it less safe? What does "less safe" mean anyway? According to you "high sec space" should mean you can't get attacked there. Why does Eve divide high sec into five zones of increasing sec status?

Concord response time.

1.0 is almost instant.
0.5 takes a few seconds.

Corresponding with concord response time, you have better resources, omber, kernite, better rats, better mission payout, etc.

There is no %100 security anywhere.

I think the original intent was highsec to be a "kiddie pool" for newbies and carebears, where if someone went through alot of time and effort, could still "assassinate" you, but it would be impractical on a large scale.

With region names like "Metropolis" I believe the idea was to make Highsec like "city living", packed housing, some crime, but also high profits for ppl who know what they're doing.

Crime.

Highsec ganking is a form of crime, obviously this mechanic was intended.

And crime is a valid profession, yes even in highsec.

However one must question at what point the crime rate gets too high?

New York City with %0 crimerate becomes Disneyland.

New York City with %5 crimerate becomes New York City.

New York City with %10 crimerate becomes Mogadishu.

The goal is to have New York City, not Disneyland and not Mogadishu, where "sometimes" a hauler is "mugged", where "sometimes" a pod is "murdered."

The key word here is "sometimes" to make crime have "flavor" to make it feel special, to give it a shocking effect.

Remember the GHSC heist, where everybody was shocked and amazed.

Now every 2-bit moron is like "yeah I joined XYZ corp and ripped them off for 50 cents worth of isk and 2 haulers."

The first is AWESOME, the second example is simply tiresome and vapid.

Truth is alot of people want to be a criminal, and most of em aren't good enough criminals to add anything to Eve except asshattery.

Ki An, in dealing with someone with your obvious lust for innocent blood, perhaps because you cannot acquire the blood of those able to put up a fight, I am compelled to suggest to you the possible virtues of self-mutilation, as a path to stay out of prison in civilized countries.

You never know how much enjoyment you might receive by submitting to your own sick will for a change, instead of insisting it upon innocents. Hey, it's just a suggestion. You never know. You might like it. And if we're all lucky, it might be a fatal attraction.

Regarding the game description, here's a passage that gives the unmistakable impression that new players will find a safe place to develop their skills, and not immediately fall prey to bloodthirsty cowards such as yourself. I quote from the EVE Player Guide:

Never too late

New players have joined EVE each day since its release, so you won't be alone as you enter the galaxy for the first time. Even players who have been playing since the beginning experiment with new characters, so not everyone will actually be a brand-new player.

Though there are certainly some players who have already amassed a great deal of wealth and equipment, but this will not affect your ability to competitively advance in the game. The high security areas are a safe place to start, until you are ready to venture into the more aggressive areas of the game.

<snip>

The wardec mechanic is specifically in place to allow people to non-consensually shoot at other people in hi-sec. It has no other purpose.

There is not supposed to be any way in this game that you can make ISK without incurring at least some risk. ISK-making is PvP as well, it's just not combat PvP. If another mining corp move in to your favoured system and start stripping the belts before you can get to them, that's PvP. What can you do about it? You can wardec them and change the context of your PvP from resource to combat - or you can pay another more combat PvP focused corp to do it for you. That's how EvE works, and it inherently means attacking your enemy in the most effective way possible.

It also means that the strong will tend to defeat the weak (weird, huh?). Asking for rule changes to protect you from the consequences of not protecting yourself is never going to get any sympathy on these forums.

EvE is based on non-consensual PvP. Accept that now and deal with the implications. If your corp is failing because of that basic principle, you need to change the way you are doing things or accept that you're not ready to run a corp yet. There's no shame in either.

Then it's your own fault for being free lunch, no one elses..
You are supposed to help yourself, CCP arn't supposed to do it for you..
The Game is biased towards Liberalism, and in a Liberal state people will abuse their freedom to take advantage of others.

And there's also nothing wrong with being a coward, being weak is worse because then you become easy prey for the "cowards"..

At least I don't judge, everyone makes a living in their own way and some make a living out of others..
That doesn't make them bad people because it's a game, and a game isn't the same thing as real-life..

When you show your true colors, there is a wonderful aura about you. It's sort of vomit-green, with black chunky bits that I can only assume are bits of Velator, and babies.

You entered a thread that proposes the idea that people like you should have to limit themselves from hunting the pre-school yard, and worked yourself into the kind of bloodthirsty frenzy that frankly makes me want to call the police.

Again, this is a perfect example of the sort of bullying that the current system not only allows, but encourages. You are so sure of yourself that you would risk all of your newbie-killing corpmates to declare war against someone you know nothing about, because someone told you that the original poster of this thread is correct.

Wow, that's.... well, I don't know quite what to say. Courageous? Hmm, no. Not courageous. Courageous would be not preying on grandmothers and butchers and bakers and candlestick makers. Honorable? Hmm, no, I'm searching for a word. Not stoic. Stoic would be admitting that you're not the bad-ass you think you are, and sitting still while someone else makes a very valid point. Grr, what is the word I'm looking for? It's right on the tip of my tongue. I know there's a word that applies to you, and everyone like you who will illustrate the point of the original poster by bullying anyone who threatens your free lunch.

Drat, I can't think of a word that fits your amazing grasp of EVE and how it's designed for you in particular to prey on the weak because you are too weak yourself to prey on anyone else. What is the word I'm thinking of?

I think perhaps the word is YOU. You are YOU. And I can't think of a more fitting punishment.

It is unconscionable that EVE rules favor the criminal and the aggressor so heavily.

The game description suggests that you can play EVE in a way that suits your play style, from peaceful miner to space pirate, but that is not true. Not when the game is so obviously biased toward the interests of the latter. Try to play as a peaceful miner and businessperson and you'll soon find that you are nothing more than a free lunch to an ever-growing population of criminals. And when they notice you and decide you're a juicy target, you WILL pay a price simply for being the object of their whim, even in the best of possible outcomes.

Perhaps you will lose your half-a-jetcan of ore.

Perhaps you will fall prey to their can-baiting and set your heavy drones on their lone frigate and lose your battleship.

Perhaps they will pick you out of a crowd and attempt to extort your corporation and drive it out of a high-security system by threat of war.

No matter what the case may be, you have no recourse.

It is CCP-sanctioned harassment, and while this has always been the case in EVE, after three years' absence from EVE, it's very easy to return and see how much more prevalent this has become. Now there seem to be a lot more criminals than before. A LOT more. Soon, there will be nothing but criminals left. Does this not suggest that the rules favor the criminals?

If CCP had not given criminals such a free lunch, wouldn't the number of unprincipled predators be curbed by obvious consequences? Instead, they've continued to grow and grow to the point where nobody is safe to mind their own business anymore.

If someone decides to pick on you, that's it. You're going to pay a price. You have no recourse. You can be bullied and war-declared by the largest of alliances, and your 5-member mining and shuffleboard corp has no recourse. None. You either provide them with legal target practice or you abandon all you've invested your time and ISK in and flee, or meet their extortion demands.

I pay the same price to play EVE as everyone else, and I refuse to submit to the idea that this approach to non-consentual PVP is okay.

It's reached the point where playing EVE is like walking through a bad part of the city at night. You maintain a steady brisk pace and make eye-contact with no one, and hope you slip through unnoticed. That should be the law of the jungle in low-security space, but in high-sec systems we should not be a-la-carte pickings for the now-majority criminal element, at their whim.

NO. I'm sick and tired of it, and while there's no equal to EVE in available space games, this inequity is rapidly taking the shine off of it for me, and many like me who just want to mind their own business in peace, in high-security space.

EvE really is the wrong game for you.

Wow, this thread got interesting fast. Some random points:

-Cipher made a fairy good point, when the ground rules for Eve were decided upon they sort of assumed that most of the piratey types would be 'honorable' inasmuch as they wouldnt go around ganking newbies for the lulz. Of course, this has been broken since the beginning when people with BS camped starter systems.

-Likewise, corp warfare was designed to be more economic in nature, not just a source of easy killmails. It's definitely broken--the game mechanics weren't set up to deal with copious amounts of asshattery.

-I would agree that corps are a bit too easy to form, but likewise its also too easy to wardec (particularly little corps). 50mil isk isn't that much anymore since everyone and his doggie has L4 mission access, a hulk, or both. Corp war was supposed to be a weapon of last resort, not something to be dropped on 5 man empire corps three at a time. It wasn't really a problem until a year or two ago--again, I blame the isk.

-All the theoretical discussion on the merits of empire war is missing one key factor: alts. Alt-corps can dec people or get decced without ever having to worry about the consequences of losing. Hauler alts can move stuff around and nullify the problem with getting camped. Spy alts can engage in all sorts of shady dealings. All in all, alts and multiple accounts turn an otherwise fun empire war into a cesspit of lameness and any talk about wardecs is remiss without considering the effect they have on things.

Why on earth should I? Will you pay me to? Or are you expecting me to do it for free..?

Protect yourself or accept the consequences of being vulnerable.

We see these "new corp attacked by PvP corp" threads about every 2-5 days. They can be divided into 2 basic types

(1) "Help, we're being attacked, what can we do about it?"

(2) "Waaah, we're being attacked, why doesn't CCP do anything about it?"

One type of thread tends to get some respect for the OP, plenty of helpful advice and sometimes even offers of help. The other type of thread is met with derision and contempt, and offers to link to the WoW signup page.

Which do you think is which, and why?

No-one will help you if you're not prepared to help your self. You're like some loser who asks his parents for help paying the rent, when he won't get a job. Helping people like that is futile, because next month you'll just have to do it again.

Man up, get in a ship and get to work.

Nice talk? Oh yeah. The nice talk begins with the second post, proposing an (unfortunately legal) exploit to avoid wardecs. And yes, you are right, there are players who don't want to be forced into pvp. Still I don't understand what makes them think they are forced to play EVE...

This is to keep people's mouths in line, and have a mature community where saying or doing something inappropriate can get you killed and griefed out of the game. I think asshats SHOULD be griefed out of Eve, and Eve is a better game for it.

In practice however, it's usually the asshats griefing the mature players out of the game.

More please. I'm not satisfied with the number of newbie-ganking lowlifes who can think of thing better to do than whinge in defense of their unfair advantage over new players. Surely there are more of you willing to show your true colors in defense of the indefensible.

With nothing better to do than pick on newbies, surely more of you can chime in on this topic and show the devs that they've done a good job in creating a thousand-star nursery schoolyard for you to prey upon, and drive away new players and further reduce CCP's playerbase. It's what you want. And at this rate, you'll soon be left to prey upon each other, as it was originally intended. But there won't be new players to continue your little control fantasy.

Yes, I'd like fries with that, winner.

I wouldn't call you a newbie, would you? You're a 2004 player after all. The fact that you feel the need to smack enough on the forums to get yourself wardecced is your problem, not CCP's. The fact of the matter is that this is how many, if not most, of the wars in Eve start. Someone with a big mouth manages to **** someone off, and then there's war and tears and 'splosions and whining on Eve-O about "unfair war-mechanics" and "griefers targetting newbs".

Like I said, enjoy your NPC corp, and be sure to tell your corp mates why they are exploding all over high sec.

You don't get it, do you? I don't care about that. You can wardec your own grandmother for all I care. I don't give a wet slap about you.

I care about the sentiment of the original poster, and people like you only serve to prove his point.

If I've angered you, why don't you just take it out on the newbies like you usually do? Isn't that YOUR point in the first place? I'm not associated with that alliance anymore, and the reason for that is people like you. If you attack them, you do so at your peril, but you won't touch me that way. Why else would I bother to post here and agree with the OP so passionately?

Ultimately, you've declared war on EVE, and as a result, EVE won't be around forever to satisfy your ego fantasies.

I absolutely love the way the high-security pirates seem to endlessly ante-up here. It illustrates the point of this thread better than any of my arguments could.

Please, keep them coming!

Defend your free lunch to your last breath!

I'd hate to see you have to grow your own babies to butcher. That could only be a bad thing.

By the way, a minute or two looking at the map (check for sovereignty) and my employment history would show you that I'm literally about as far from a "hi-sec pirate" as it's possible to get. 61 jumps to Jita... Rolling Eyes

In point of fact I have never pirated in hi-sec (tried it in lo-sec a couple of times but I don't really like lo-sec that much), but I have been on the receiving end of attempts. None have succeeded so far, although I suppose eventually I'll get careless or unlucky.

However what is happening to you is not piracy. Piracy is when people make ISK. What is happening to you is what happens to every big-mouthed smacktard who sooner or later tries his act on the wrong person.

If, as you claim, your 4-year old character lacks the skills to fight, then you'd best keep quiet and avoid antagonising those who can.

Now you must excuse me, I have some children to murder. That helps me work up an appetite for those deep-fried puppies! Then it's out for a few drinks and fire-bombing an orphanage, and then maybe pay a hit-man to kill one of the guys who picked on me at school.

That's how we roll!

Good, because I'm going to war dec you and any corp you're in. For ever. Twisted Evil I'm that rotten.

If you care about the OP's sentiment, why do you spoil his thread with baseless smack?

Most newbies haven't done anything to awaken my ire. You have, so I'll wardec you. THAT is my point.

Wait, you joined the alliance four days ago, and you're "not associated with that alliance anymore"? Kinda odd, don't you think? Or is it that you'll ditch your corp as soon as you are able to log in tonight? Matters not. They have harbored you. They will pay for it.

Nope, I've just declared war on you.

This is why you should never walk away from a warrdec. Fight fire with fire so to speak.

The problem with EVe is that it is easier to destroy than create (as in life i suppose). Wouldnt it be something if the EVE high sec community rose up and drew a line in the sand and said no more?

It woudld be interesting if CCP introduced a mechanic to support that (maybe some sort mutual defence, but not quite alliance)

Yea.
Secure from 0.0 to -5 = can be killed without harm from Concord!
Secure under -5 = get assistens from Concord Cool.

Wardac only posible if both in a Aliance or
SP + ISK from all Members+Corp doesen't differ more then 20%.
One acc corps aren't allowed to wardec at all!

Killed by Concord = no refound from insurence but have to pay the Concord for it's time (like in real life).

Killed an other player without wardec = 7 days jail (can't undock and trade).
Each time you kill a player it's +1 day jail.

Highsec only for sure. Low/0.0 is different.

I feel for you, but can't really offer much of a way out of this.

Move to lowsec temporarily or 0.0 if you can.

That will make you all stay on your toes all the time, and the wardeccing corp will find it harder to just have alts sitting around the place. They will also become targets for everyone. Hell, the noob corp alts will become MORE targets for everyone especially in 0.0 where you may be able to do a deal with the locals in a PC but they will not tolerate NPC players (potential spies).

Also you'll be able to use your smartbombs wherever you like without getting Concord involved, though watch yourself while in range of sentries (gates and stations).

Nothing against you, Malcanis. I actually respect a great deal of what you've had to contribute to this tonight. And I actually apologize if I gave that impresson. I have my own battle to fight here, but it's in defense of the OP, not against you. Unless you're really a total mingebag, which I doubt.
