First off, this aint a whine thread and I won't be demanding anything Wink I definitely won't be having a cry and giving you my stuff if it doesn't happen.

I think it would be nice to hear more variation in sound effects, an enhancement/replacement of current sound effects, and to just plain add a lot in where there are none currently. Things such as, just for a few examples:

• Constant ambient radio noise in high security space
• A rogue drone sending you a warning in an audible digital language
• A wide variety of weapon fire samples
• Concord informing you in a static perforated radio transmission that your ship will be destroyed
• The dull whir of an MWD overloading your engines
• The static short of shields failing
• A pirate transmission telling you to scamper
• The (incomprehensible) chatter of a news billboard
• NPC and PC distress signals
• An audio filter!
etc. etc...

Aside from the ambient music from Mr. Hallur, I personally think EVE's sound is a bit lacking. You guys did a mad job on the graphics. If you were to ask me, the picture won't be complete until the audio measures up. Are there any plans for an SFX enhancement in the near or distant future?

So what's your opinion? Y/N/You just want to leave that 'Audio Enabled' box unticked?

This. All of this. And the ability to alter the sound levels of each of these sources. And a rebalance of the current sound levels (not being able to turn down game sound effects (e.g. missiles, warp) without turning everything else down with it is just bad),

I would like to add that it would be cool to have surround sound too. ATM I usually have EvE sounds turned off while I play streaming XM radio in a different browser.

I think I'll break my stance on never signing anything, since I find well-crafted audio to be just as immersive as good graphics.

Currently, it feels like I'm playing a modern game with 1995-era sound effects strapped on with tape and glue.

The sound in EVE is unfortunately lacking so much that... well dunno how much really, it lacks so much it need a whole new catagory for "lacking". And its both the sounds itself, and the way sound in general is implemented in the game.
I really hope that by the time Ambulation is released we will see an update to sound in "EVE proper" aswell.

Please CCP, give sound the same kind of love, that you gave graphics with trinity!

Absolutely. For starters, surely by now we should have either a properly-balanced set of sound volumes or else, if that's beyond hope, give us enough resolution on the sound volume controls to let us do it manually to taste.

I much prefer to play with sound effects on - but sadly I often run with many of them disabled because I can't get a tolerable balance of the various sounds. I shouldn't have to zoom out to turn npc missile hits down (and what's with that anyhow).

And yes, some of the weapon sounds are dreadful - lasers that sound like machine-guns, "soggy" railguns and so forth. Definitely some love needed here!

The ambience is nice, but the only thing truly immersing is the launching and explosion of missiles at the moment.

I wouldn't call it immersive, since sound can't travel through space...

Cool, though.

/fail for trolling. The OP's suggestions are all about stuff you certainly should hear. You most certainly WOULD hear the launching of your missiles as it would be internal to your ship, which contains air. The explosions however should be noiseless as sound does not travel without air.

lol yeah EVE sound ephaks are weak.
The cloak/uncloak one is flat out ****ing me off. I don't want to ear that vomit noise ever again.
All 4 races have different propulsion tech yet they all sound the same and always the same little sound effect after a double click.
Same for scanners and sensors.
Nosferatu's "whuuuuh" lollersound

I know about "exSTUFFE" apps to extract sounds from EVE but I can't replace them.
haha ok guys ^_^

Great Ideas here guys! I've done some work in studios as a sound engineer and have even done some producing. I know first hand this is not the hardest thing in the world to do. Here are my ideas. If you want super realism, you wouldn't hear too many sounds, only things attached to your boat; engine noise, missile launches, warp, and damage taking. You would NOT be able to hear other boats getting hit, unless they send out transmissions saying "Im Hit, Im Hit. Going down!" That kinda crap.

Depenging on the types of Propulsion Systems the ships have, you can EASILY model different sounds to suit it. Ion Propulsion drives literally sound like Wind, or a Jet Lighter.

Laser Turrets should sound like, well, Lasers. PEW PEW, imagine that.

Projectile Turrets would sound like normal real life guns. Maybe a little muffled since they're shot from outside the ship. If you want to delve deeper, artillery cannons can sound like Arty, and Auto cannons can sound more like machine guns (if thats what they are, no idea about gunnery)

Missles will ofcourse, sound like missiles. Rockets and standards would sound like your usual small missiles... maybe like a bottle rocket. Heavy's will sound deeper and louder. Torpedoes would be Really DEEP and Growl like.

When your shields would start failing, it will sound like sparking electrical wiring. Or maybe like a powering down transformer or something. When you start taking hull damage, it would sound like the bulkheads collapsing in a submarine or something.

Getting webbed would sound like your engine stalling and cutting out.

Getting warp scrammed would be similar to a powering down transformer or something.

Getting jammed could be static. Maybe depending on the type of jamming being done would effect the sound.

One great thing that they could implement, could be done two different ways. When taking damage, it would be great if you could hear it in surround sound... Now for the two ways of doing this

1) Originate the sound from where the damage was dealt. So lets say, a boat is firing at you from your 5 oclock position. Well, most of the sound would come from there. A boat is firing from your 9 oclock, sound would come from the front left speaker and the rear left. You catch my drift.

2)Make the sound Originate from the point on your boat that the damage is done. So lets say VISUALLY, the damage is being done to the front of your boat, sound comes from the front. Back left of the boat, sound comes from the rear left speaker.

Anyways, those are some of my ideas. I'll see if i can post up some more later if they come to mind.

I might play with sound if they made the different sounds toggle-able, or volume adjustable on an individual level.

I find the stargate sound, and especially the horrible warp sound, to be harsh.

Actually, I'd use sound if they just removed the warp sound altogether. I ****ing hate that noise.

This, in the extreme. The warp effect in general is simply terrible, but I look forward to the effects patch with hope. =)

Personally i'd be satisfied if they just improved on the current sounds, which often don't play properly and sound outdated when they do.

I support this idea. Some sounds are OK, but others are horrid (park your ship next to an acceleration gate and listen to your brain slowly liquify through your ears).

At the very least, give us more control over the audio. While on that note, give us also more control over the in-game effects. I am sick and tired of trying to click on things while the screen is constantly shaking due to the missile bombardment my ship is taking. I would love to have the option to just turn that off.

Eve sound has taken a giant step backwards if anything. Its much worse then it sued to be for Vista user’s.

Would love to see a sound update somewhere along the way. Got all this expensive hardware setup for sound and rarely is it taken advantage of.

It would also be nice if the "stacking" of different sounds could be fixed. For example, when your fleet with 30+ people just have jumped through a gate and your FC decides to gang warp you all to the next gate, causing everyone to de-cloak at the same time and thus shattering the ears of everyone involved.

id prefer to see better explosions than hear them , i like to listen to eve radio while playing so the last thing i want/need is drones or concord bombarding me with radio traffic

/signed/signed/signed times a billion

Just a few of the sound effect examples you mentioned would add so much to the game. Some sounds like that exist in stations, and that is why I turn off the music while I am in the station. You can hear some interesting stuff that even sounds like it could be one of the "EVE Languages" (AKA not english), and something about "and he punts to the 40 yard line". O_o.. The people of EVE Recreated football!? Anyways. Signed. I'd kill for this.

then i cant turn up the volume to hear the music instead
... where is the standard "sound" bar to adjust.. sound

I mean there are already bars for music, ui, and voice. right?

im sure you people at CCP will get it right so i'll be patient Surprised

i really like the idea of high sec being chattery and loud, low sec having sound clicks every few seconds, and 0.0 being silent

idea being that we're not listening to players but civilian communication based on population of region

it would make 0.0 feel more outskirty

Somewhat in the sound department, but I wish that every single Pod pilot didn't have the same shipboard AI (Aura). It be a lot more interesting if at least every faction had their own 'standard' AI within them.

There are way important things to work on in this game than sound or even ambulation and that's lag and game balance.

Yes, the sounds are horrible and the jump gate sounds is even more mortifying.

I have been playing without sounds for a long time...

Sounds need some love!

I thought ccp hired an audio developer? Is he/she actually doing anything?

the sounds really could do with a good re-work as a lot of them do not reflect the even they are supposed to portray. i have a special dislike for hyrbid turret sfx, id love to hear those change.

also perhaps some new music? or at least some variety, maybe somthing more majestic that makes you feel like your in one of the trailers rather than in a 70s b-movie

I once worked hard on keeping a thread much like this one bumped and going until it gained a dev response. The dev response was (paraphrased) :

We are aware of the utter suck that are both the sound engine, and the sounds it produces. Look at the jobs page. Interested?

Guess they still haven't found anyone, because the job opening is still there. Sad
