I new in this game. maybe it not posible from Technical side, BUT it be VERY good and fun to see this here.

In many SF books is idea of masking ships against pirates.

Normaly called like Raiders.
Standart look industrial ship but with very high damg.

or maybe if it posible make some Modules wich reconfigurate you shield field, to make same tonage ship, to look like other class.

it be very fun find under Indus mask rdy to kill you battle Very Happy

Make your ship appear like a 'weaker' ship... I like it. T2 tier 2 BC's perhaps?

Q-ships... would be very interesting.
Maybe they could add it as some sort of rig that can only be fitted on indies, adds a bunch of slots, better defense and fitting while nerfing the cargo and CPU to hell, which in essence would give it stats similar to a mediorce cruiser. Electronics will stay crap (too easy to detect military grade on a civvie ship) and it would cost like 2-3 times what a real cruiser costs so people don't replace real cruisers with this.

i read the first post and immediatly how funny it'd be when you make a cap ship fleet look like a lil frig fleet and pound the other guys into dirt :D

or better yet making your frig fleet look like a cap ship fleet :D

Make it so it only changes what it says on the scanner - basically highslot module with sustainable cap consumption when not fighting ( not during combat ) that doesn't affect the way your ship looks in anyway , just changes what the other ships electronics detect it as.

Also to prevent capitals from masking as frigates ,you could only got one class up or down or just keep it the same ( frigate would be able to change to any destroyer , cruiser would be able to go destroyer or battlecruiser , etc. )

Or make it as a bonused module for the recons that don't have a bonus to cloaking Very Happy

This is a great idea.

Would be cool if industrials could mask themselves as combat ships and avoid combat that way or combat ships masking to appear weaker.

Interesting idea.

You can already do this to some extent by changing your behavioral patterns and making yourself *look* like a carebear. For instance, I used to go into the belts in lowsec with my machariel and start ratting, attempting to look like a hapless noob. The pirates who attacked me generally got a rude awakening when my multiple-billions ISK faction-fit PvP setup wiped them out shortly afterwards. (Sadly, though, I don't get to fly it much anymore - more prevalent blobs, overpowered tanking, nanos, and broken recons saw to that.)

Naa if any ship could be made to look like another ship it would be overpowered. Now if you made a specialized T2 frigate & cruiser for this role with a specialized module module that would be pretty awesome.

No no no.

Recon information is hard enough to accurately get.

This would make it quite impossible to find out what the setup of large gangs and fleets. There would be no way to be prepared for engagements. It would change the game into pure chance. Did you setup up the 100 man fleet correctly or did you not. Pure chance.

ofcourse there have to be limits.

It should prolly be a high slot module.

You should prolly only be able to do a slight mask like a T2 ships would only be able to look like its T1 version for example.

A penalty like locktime increase for example might also be a good idea.

Why not allow such a module? Id rather switch this new module with the lame cloaking ratter ravens with their prototype cloaks that cant be touched.

Make it only useful on single ships - not gangs.

And not bulletproof, more like it will take longer time to scan out such a ship (of course a "camoflage skill" with suitable attributes is needed).

This skill (and/or module) should only be available to certain classes of ships, like cruisers, industrials or transport.

I like the idea. Very Happy

Has a lot of potential both for pirates and their victims, even fleet warfare would require 'eyes-on' for accurate intel. Would need serious balancing though, maybe have energy consumption depend on degree of perceived change and have scans made from same grid penetrate the illusion.

Imagine:
"NOL/PR- gate camped by 50 Iterons at .. err .. sniper range *boggle*"

Would certainly make the cloaked warpers a lot more valuable in fleets.

In real naval warfare (granted most of that is theoretical as we haven't had many real naval engagements in the last 50 years), recon to determine fleet composition is much more about getting close and eyeballing ships (or having satellite support, or adequate field intelligence), because radar can really only tell you rough ship size, and even that can be unreliable if the profile of the ship is modified to give false returns; you can only tell the composition of a fleet by flying over it.

This radar return can be modified in two directions - make your ship appear smaller than it is by diminishing its radar profile, and making your ship appear larger by amplifying the radar return yourself.

Adding this notion to EVE would certainly be interesting; if it changed what you get on the scanner only, it would mean recon isn't just about being in the same system and scanning, you would have to get close enough to visually inspect ships or at least have them on overview.

I would impose restrictions such that you can't go nuts and have a battleship pretend to be a frigate, perhaps a class below or above at most? Another way to limit it is to make it a remote module for a specialised ship that projects an image onto another.

I especially like this idea. It would make force recons and covert ops ships more interesting, utilizing their ability to warp cloaked to get a more accurate view of targets, rather than simply decreasing scanning time/other roles.

I personally don't like the idea of one ship masking another unless it's like a Hictor's scripted module. That is, it can modify one ship in lowsec, or all ships (Up to a certain limit, say, 2 per skill level including your own ship.)

Heck, I would think adopting Black Ops into the radar profiling would make them a lot more interesting...

Edit: Combat fitting MINING cruisers (or Hulks) can work too. Twisted Evil

if it be module (not Raider type ship, but modul) charges for "field configurater" can be BPO's. it have logic to make full illuzion u need know how it must look. and it be expansive Twisted Evil

idea was next

ship showing even Info Look Like Indus till first shot.

than it drope mask and u see battle.

but i think it hard technical to change ship info during modul work.

max is yes "raider" type wich can be eq. with max number of weapon or with 2-3 bombs in time.

But real MAsk Module is be fun, if they make it in future.
