Assuming you mean 'This is not wow' in the pejorative sense, why would a customisable UI be a bad thing? i can think of no logical reason not to put it in, beyond cpp having to allocate dev-time to write the code to facilitate it. if the demand was there, i'm sure they'd seriously look into doing it. +1 for customisable GUI. |

One good reason is that a highly customisable ui makes it extremely easy for screen scraping macro's |

Didn't say that addons are macro's im just saying you give the community the tools to customize the interface the macroer's are just gonna use it to make their life easier. |

Macroers have easy life. Just look at last post of ry ry, and look at "Overview" - greatest instrument to automate anything at all. Ouch, and skill training - can be automated. Easy, right? Some time for reading right books and voi la - u have Ultimate EVE-uber controller. It's not a problem of addons. In any case CCP can regulate functionality trough API functions. |

Edited by: Emily Spankratchet on 30/01/2008 14:51:14My guess is that CCP have a limited number of developers and would rather have them working on other things. A spiffy UI API would be nice but if you look at the concerns of the player base (i.e. count the whines) there are lots of other things people would rather have. Culturally... Can I say culturally without sounding like an arse? Anyway, culturally, it's not something that Eve has been big on. Hence the "this is not WoW" replies to the OP. I think a lot of people would explain this by saying that it's about playing the game, not having to install 35 UI addons so that you're not at a disadvantage. Finally, you'd have to be really careful about any UI development. Easier access to a lot of information could unbalance things. Take the market as an example; if you could sc**** market info and present it in a better form you could make an absolute fortune. Edit: Originally by: ry ry what fresh new CHEATINGLOL are you expecting from people being able to reposition elements of the interface?
An API is more than just being able to reposition interface elements. Unless you're talking about a pretty crap API. |

Thats all regulated as i wrote. And here another point. Custamisable UI can make life slightly easyer for newcomers. Don't think only about urself. Some people stop to play when the see default interface. |

Let me give you a real example of why this is not allowed.
Lets say you customize your UI to blink/make sounds and go freaky as soon as someone enter local. Voila, you have an advantage over everyone else in reacting to the threat of being popped by pirates before you notice they are there.
EVE needs to be carefully balanced and give everyone the same experience, simlpy because it is geared towards so much PVP and the hunter/hunted philosophy. Giving one or the other a significant advantage would break this careful balance.

So, u cant read at all. Im repeat for u personaly - API regulated by CCP. And thing with authorized developers teams from community members... if CCP wonna control process. |

A new UI wouldn't be bad at all. Customising is nice, though I find the current UI comfortable enough (excluding the mini-freezes of the market, but I guess this is not UI). Do you know how long it took me to decide where to put my chat box , really the problem is space, set your resolution to max And about the addons - Ummm, the one thing I really could use in eve is a better calculator otherewise what other things are there (besides cheating)? |

Why should we have addons?
You can already customize much of the UI. What is the essential need to change icons and colors (that's what WoW UI addon's do).
Personally I don't like many of the addon's in wow, as they make it so much easier for those that have them, giving them a great advantage compared to those that don't, often making it a requirement to have. It also removes a lot of the players competence to the computer, making average players just as good as good players (who don't need those addon's to do the job). |

I'd like them, the UI is "Not that ideal" for me atm, and appears to grow more unstable with every patch. |
