Hey guys, I'm looking for advice on a Hurricane setup to run level 3
missions. I didn't post all my skills because I'm willing to train for
anything that's needed. I'm also willing to use a Cyclone if suggested.
I'm currently using the Hurricane because I like the damage bonuses
though. I haven't had much time to played with/compared different setups
for them in QuickFit.

I'll admit the current setup I'm using is really goofy (probably even
down right stupid!). However it allows me to run Level 3 missions with
ease. Not speed, but ease. The Shield Extenders give me an over all
shield HP of 13,389. That's a really really nice cushion when you're
running a mission and some times not paying as much attention as you
should. (Things get busy around the house what can I say. :/)

I usually fight at about 45,000 km using Artillery and take out waves of
Rats as they come in. I keep the AC's for any frigates that make it
through the Artilleries and drones or on occasion when I warp right in
the middle of some Rats.

The light missiles are almost useless for me right now because of their
range. I'm usually either fighting between 45,000 to 30,000 or within
8,000. My goal is to train to use heavy missiles so they'll be able to
hit from a similar range as the artilleries.

----------------------------------------------
Current Setup
----------------------------------------------
Hurricane

High Slots
---------------------
(Note: Change ammo based on Rat type. I usually fight Angles though so
this is what I normally use.)

720mm 'Scout' Artillery I, Nuclear M
720mm 'Scout' Artillery I, Nuclear M
720mm 'Scout' Artillery I, Nuclear M
720mm 'Scout' Artillery I, Nuclear M
200mm AutoCannon II, Barrage S
200mm AutoCannon II, Barrage S
'Arbalest' Standard Missile Launcher, Piranha Light Missile
'Arbalest' Standard Missile Launcher, Piranha Light Missile

Mid Slots
---------------------
10MN Afterburner II
Large Shield Extender II
Large Shield Extender II
Large Shield Extender II

Low Slots
---------------------
Overdrive Injector System II
Type-D Power Core Modification: Shield Power Relay
Type-D Power Core Modification: Shield Power Relay
Type-D Power Core Modification: Shield Power Relay
Gyrostabilizer II
Tracking Enhancer II
----------------------------------------------

I know I know, "Holy crap that's a lot of shield extenders and Power
Relays!". I'd probably benefit just as much by adding resistance and
lowering some of my shield HP, but I haven't had time to look into it. I
really prefer passive resistance and/or bonuses, hence the lazy part. :D
Also even with the Power Relay's I've never really had an issue with my
cap. Although with all the shield extenders powergrid might become an
issue as I move up to T2 med artillery.

I also just finished training Medium Artillery Specialization to level
3, but I haven't had time to research them and decided which I'm going
to use.

Once again, I'm not suggesting this setup for anyone. It just happens to
work for me. After all the freedom and openness of EvE is what makes it
so cool right? :D .. The smartest path would probably be to get in a
Raven and tear through missions like no body's business. :) I won't lie
I started down that path but stopped because my 3 or 4 month goal is to
be in a Sleipnir.

Over the next few days I'm going to look around at loadouts on
BattleClinic and play with a lot of different setups in QuickFit. I'll
see if I can find anything that'll better suit my needs.

Thanks for any advice or insights. Sorry for the long post .. :D

This is the setup that got me through every L3....use T2 whenever possible, or faction if your budget allows. My corpmate prefers a passive shield tank (which also works very well), but I prefer to armor tank it....

6x 720mm arty
2x Heavy or Assault Launchers

1x tracking computer
1x 10mn AB
2x cap charger

1x MAR
2x gyrostab
2x rat specific hards
1x EANM

6x hobgoblins

1x ACR rig
1x explosive pump
1x aux nano-pump or CCC

the fittings looks good except for the autocannons, replace them with two more artys and youre fine. If you dont have the grid or cpu switch to 650mm artys. And replace the tracking enhancer for another gyro stab when you have better tracking skills.

You can fly almost all level3s with a PVP-fitted autocannon hurricane.
for the one or two which are a bit harder, fit the right hardeners for the faction you are fighting and throw out the scrambler for a cap recharger (yes, most of the time I'm too lazy to do even that). the only slot that I always bother to refit for running a level3 is the MWD slot, which gets replaced by an AB ...

6x 220mm (or 425mm if tehy fit)
2 med nos (or launchers)

med cap injector
web
cap recharger
ab

3 active hardeners
damage control
2 med reps

drones

Perhaps not the best mission fitting, but the laziest I can think of that works. And that was the point, right?

Thanks for the advice.

I dropped the AC's and dropped the Tracking Enhancer for another Gyro. I also decided to go with 3 shield rigs to open up some mid slots and free up enough power grid to use 6 T2 arties. I played with some setups in QuickFit last night and here's what I came up with.

----------------------------------
650mm Artillery Cannon II, Tremor M
650mm Artillery Cannon II, Tremor M
650mm Artillery Cannon II, Tremor M
650mm Artillery Cannon II, Tremor M
650mm Artillery Cannon II, Tremor M
650mm Artillery Cannon II, Tremor M
'Arbalest' Heavy Missile Launcher, Thunderbolt Heavy Missile
'Arbalest' Heavy Missile Launcher, Thunderbolt Heavy Missile

10MN Afterburner I
Kinetic Deflection Amplifier II
Explosion Dampening Amplifier II
Large Shield Extender II

Overdrive Injector System II
Power Diagnostic System II
Type-D Power Core Modification: Shield Power Relay
Type-D Power Core Modification: Shield Power Relay
Gyrostabilizer II
Gyrostabilizer II

Core Defence Field Extender I
Core Defence Field Extender I
Core Defence Field Extender I
----------------------------------

Using the rigs is pricey but not too bad. It gives me the same shield cushion plus opens up a lot more freedom with my mid slots. The 2nd gyro gives a nice damage bonus too. Thanks again.

Is it possible to run level 4 missions with a battlecruiser? If it's even doable it'd probably take a long time.

I wouldn't recommend running lvl4s in a battlecruiser. As you're using medium sized guns you won't get out enough range of them.

I bought a claymore some time ago, but I only used it once in a mission with a friend. It just took too long to get in range and when you do get in range you're very likely to have the whole stage light up on you Wink
(Well, it might be possible with good skills, but I imagine it being very timeconsuming. At least, don't try it in a minnie BC/Command. Caldari ships are something entirely different or so I gather. They tend to get a range bonus, so the "too short a range" thing falls away.)

Besides, my own Hurricane fitting for lvl3 missions is:
6 650mm T2, 2 heavy missile launchers
1 10mn AB2, T2 Webifier, T2 painter, T2 tracking computer (usually no scripts in there as they only add like 2km optimal to nuclear M with no tracking support)
1 Medium Armour Repairer T2, 3 T2 energized platings, according to damage type, usually 1 EANM II and 2 rat specifics), 2 Gyrostabilizer IIs

No rigs on this boat as it cuts through most missions in 10-15min and I'm not feeling like investing more isk than the ship is itself worth just for an additional minute or two off of the mission time. Wink

I go for a bit of range and full gank on a mission cane.

I use (T2 must haves highlighted)
Highs:
6x 720s (For range)
2x 'Whatever' (I run out of grid before fitting these...)

Mids:
2x Tracking comp (range script)
1x Cap Recharger II
1x AB

Lows:
MAR II
DCU II
1-2x Hardeners
2-3x Gyros

6x Hobgoblins

Rigs: CCC or rep amount if you must

Choose ammo for a range well beyond the rat's orbit, most people go with fusion of PP for "max damage", though you get a much larger window where the rats are heading straight for you with titanium sabot/depleted uranium/nuclear, being able to sit still and shoot without tracking issues to be worth more than 10-15% base damage. Getting your optimal up to around 40-50km will also eliminate the need for a tank on most level 3s.

hurricane for lvl3 missions

6x 650mm Arti II, tractor, salvager
10mn AB named, 3x Cap recharger II
1x MAR II, 2x Armor hardener II, 3x Gyro II

Cap & falloff rigs

2x hardeners (T2 - Make sure you fit the correct type for the mission you are doing) and a MAR II is really enough tank, that gives you 3 Gyros and the ability to utterly destroy most things shooting at you in no time.

Err... you can permarun all of that on two rechargers, cap rigs and the third rechargers are just wasted slots.
