My apologies for a lack of forewarning. This is a new patch system we are trying out. The correct sequence is:

Log in as normal
after bulk data acquisition, the new patch will d/l
there will be NO install dialogue
client needs to restart
log in again.

Will this mean we can log in and play whilst it downloads in the background ?

If not, why bother changing a system that seemed to work OK.

If yes, why not just wait and install the patch when the client is restarted next time.

Manual patching:

Please note that these are default locations for English Windows installs only.
The programmers are currently working on a tool to resolve this problem for those people with non-default/non-English installs.

Download the file here

You will then need to create the following directory, and place the file in that directory. As before, these are default directories, so if you have a custom install this is unlikely to work.

Win XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\CCP\EVE\dd7d3d04d133729bde20677ec76f5d63

Vista
C:\ProgramData\CCP\EVE\dd7d3d04d133729bde20677ec76f5d63

Linux (Ubuntu)
/home/<user>/.cedega/EVE Online/c_drive/Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/CCP/EVE/dd7d3d04d133729bde20677ec76f5d63

Mac
/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/Eve Online Preferences/p_drive/All Users/Application Data/CCP/EVE/dd7d3d04d133729bde20677ec76f5d63

Well CCP great job... NOT...

Multiple system users run SAME eve client, I run it pops out patch, downloads 4mb, patches, restarts client... and downloads again.... WAY TO GO LOL...

I run eve as admin (it's win vista) it downloads the patch... applies... restarts... I logon... this time no patch - cool it's patched...

But is it? I run second account (eve is started with different system user using runas) and it's guess what... not patched and downloads 4mb file AGAIN - to same client that was just patched... of course it fails to patch due to lack of admin rights.

Next time make sure you actually test such a great feature... :/ and btw - what 4mb of **** and vir was downloaded? :P

Is there any chance we could get some kind of estimate on when non-default installs will be patachable with this?

And will win 2k users be able to take advantage of it? I noticed you only listed XP and vistas as far as windows clients go.

Also, what about patch notes, and what actually changed?

One would have thought that they would TEST things properly now before releasing after the boot.ini failure.

And why no announcement in advance?! Where are the patch notes?

Even the best patch suffers if not communicated properly, way to go...

Does it really matter?

At the end of the day:

- It's their game, they can do whatever they want with it.
- They aren't part of some massive govt conspiracy to act as big brother and spy on you no matter how much you whackos think they are.
- 4mb is hardly a drain on bandwidth no matter how many clients you have (took me less than 15 seconds to download, apply and log in Rolling Eyes).
- It is not your right to get patch notes. It is merely a perk as a customer.

Stop whining and be thankful that CCP can fix minor bugs in this way.

No you couldn't be more wrong! It's part of the on going conspiracy by CCP to remove all our images, first our bootimages with the attack on boot.ini, this patch could be converting Eve to a text based MUD, and deleting our jpegs as we speak!

Not everyone has a adsl/cable connection, and try downloading 4MB on 6 machines on a 125k line..

Besides we aren't beta testers, we are paying constumers, and this is not a nice way to treath your costumers.

i bet you wouldnt talk this way if you couldnt log in and needed to switch a skill.

even then, this is ****poor practise, even more so after running the game for 4+ years. a simple heads on would have been enough so ppl can set long skills.

Be that as it may, Anhammerad, the lack of communication is still greatly frustrating.

My first thought when the patch installed was "Hmm, what's been nerfed?". My second was "Huh? Where's the patch notes?". My third being "Hmm, I wonder if anyone's tried rebooting yet".

Given that CCP's prior record with patching leaves even newbies like myself suspicious suggests that keeping an open line of communication with the user base would be a really good idea. Unfortunately, we aren't seeing any of that and when a company goes silent there's usually good reason to suspect a charlie foxtrot has just taken place.

What bothers me is that after all this time, and GM's appologising for the lack of information about this patch, still no announcement has been made on the players news center or in the server logon MOTD.. this is a disgrace and CCP should know better after all this time.

Running Win2k from D:

Copied "compiled.code" into the directory specified (except on the d: drive).

Logged in.

Finishes Bulk Data.

Just sits there ... like it was doing the first hour and a half.

I had to create the CCP & EVE parts of the

D:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\CCP\EVE\dd7d3d04d133729bde20677ec76f5d63

directory as they did not exist before.

Just for the record ... I already tried rebooting ... but it came up fine so it's not another boot ini problem.

The latest information in the Manual Patching area - is for the December 18th patch.

Why was this done without the ability to do a manual patch?

Congratulations to those who can log in.
Just wish I'd left my characters on the 3 day skill they were on instead of switching them to one that was going to be done in 9 hours last night ...

*sigh*

Is this going to be the patch experience from now on?

Slap the thing together as fast as you can, dump it to the server and let the users QA it?

Up until recently ... one of the things I had liked about EVE was the quality of the code and the professionalism with which the game was installed an patched ... Guess that's out the window ...

I too run Win2k SP4 and it is not working, I can't log in. Not only have I tried rebooting and reinstalling, I've tried everything that support has suggested. This is a nightmare. I swore today would be a good day and it starts like this, astounding. I hope CCP fixes this problem extremely soon. And please, a plaintive request, stop messing with things that aren't broken and start messing with things that are. When I'm ever able to log back in I will have lost all my bookmarks, my settings, my contacts, my logs, my overview settings, my windows placement and quite possibly my ship. This is the worst day ever so far and I have had some pretty bad ones in this game. I can't even figure out how to play it still and I've been at it for 8 months. A total nightmare.

How about the manual fix for windows 2000?

Im only relatively new to Eve as its runs for years this seems a bit unprofessional testing a patch on a live server and not even informing players using it.

Oh, and as paying customers you have a right to a fully functioning game

the most likely path would be D:\Documents and Settings\<your user>\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\ as that already existed. however it did not work for me. Tried creating the given xp path too, aint working either.
