Twice tonight I have had to have a GM /unstuck me from Jita. I jumped into Jita, nothing happened except for the notice saying "jumping". After 10+ minutes I tried relogging. Logging back in, after selecting character, it just says "loading character" or similar, and just a black screen. First time I waited nearly an hour (I read someone actually managed to log in after 20+ minutes). I then petitioned and a GM freed me after 5 minutes. A couple of hours later I returned to Jita (silly me, but business is business), and same thing happened. This time I waited around 30 minutes before I petitioned, and a GM once again freed me after 5 minutes.
I asked how long this problem with Jita will persist, and his reply was "try to stay away from Jita for a while" hehe

So I guess it's needless to say that it's pretty darn annoying to have the main trading hub in the universe have this sort of problems! Please fix.

Sadly Jita is something of a self-perpetuating problem.

If you consider x amount of people (in the hundreds) using the market on a consistent basis, you can imagine the strain this places on the server.

Jita is already on its own server, better hardware and a supercomputer project announced at the fanfest are in development but ultimately the more popular Jita gets, the worse the problem is.

Attempting to stay away from Jita or using it out of peak hours is pretty much the best advice that can be given.

Thanks for your response! I have to say that my reaction to the problem is two-fold: On one hand I'm impressed by the speed and quality of the service rendered by the GMs. Both times I needed help while being stuck they /unstuck me within 5 minutes of my petition. Also, you replied here in the forums within reasonable time, so my rating of the GM service is 9/10!

However, this problem has persisted since at least January 2006, and certain players risk to loose several million (or even billions) when this problem occours. Like it or not Jita IS a trading hub, so naturally people are dependant on it to work to complete contracts and keep the money flowing in a positive direction. Being January 2008 that means the problem has been known and not solved for 2 years, and to me this seems unreasonable. I'm glad to hear that CCP is working on upgrading the Jita server, but as you say, it might not really help that much since it is a self-perpetuating problem. So status is Quo.

This makes me wonder - will CCP reimburse the lost deposits when contracts expire because of being unable to enter Jita? What practical advice do you have for people that work during the day and only have time to play in the more cramped evening-time and that are depandent on Jita working? I dont mind lag, but having the game crash and stay crashed for hours during peak times is not lag any more. It's a complete system failure for the person experiencing it (albeit it may be caused by lag).

Edit: I'd also like to ad that I have a fairly good system (nothing spectacular), amd dual core 5000+, 2.6 ghz, 2gb ddr ram, gForce 8600 gts (256 mb), soundblaster card and upgraded all my drivers.

I also take it that CCP conciders this to be a server problem and not client hardware or software related?

I agree with you.
I've had to file a stuck petition because i was stuck in Jita two times, last one yesterday and i must say that I'm impressed by the speed the petition was handled.

/me wonders if the GMs have some kind of secret mind reading device ;-)
Time to put on the tinfoil hat :)

It's mostly a server problem.

They've been upgrading the server continuously, but the better they make the server the more people go in to Jita...
Their current work is on being able to split one system across multiple servers, which should alleviate the strain. But even if they increase the power of the Jita server (cluster) so it can handle 3000 people in the same system, you're just going to get 5000 people trying to get in.
They need a way to discourage trading in systems that are heavily traded in. Many people have suggested having the sales tax go up in systems with a lot of trades, and it seems like a good idea to me.

Stuck petitions are ultra high priority, people stuck can't play at all, while people waiting for reimbursement may have other ships to fly... That's the way it is, I guess the stuck people in overcrowded systems like jita and motsu gets higher and higher, taking much time of the GMs... Also, stuck petitions are fairly simple, you grab the character ans move it to somewhere else, ther is no log analysing and such to find if they must do it or not.
