I think Selene will be back tonight/tomorrow, and will fix any autodeposit errors as soon as possible. Remember you can use the active ring banker in our main channel for deposits to avoid both waiting for the API to update and any errors :)

Yep yep, back in town again and all auto-deposits should be fixed up (for those of you who made mistakes, Frank =P), and all of the about 100 evemails I had have been answered (I think). Looks like things went smoothly, and thanks again for the kind words guys.

Before I put any ISK into this, what are the chances that someone could be hacking/manipulating what the server does in terms of handing out cards? I know that there was a Eve poker thing being ran before that had accusations of just that happening.

Mavens is a publicly available program, with documentation available here: http://www.briggsoft.com/docs/pmavens/PMHelp.htm

Even as the one administering the server, I am unable to see or affect cards in any way, as detailed in the software's documentation. Also we can't change and recompile the program as the source code is not available to us, but only to the creator. So there's really no way to affect the integrity of the cards themselves (thankfully).

I know a few previous attempts at competition have used other software, though Mavens is popular. I'm unfamiliar with how any of that other software was set up, and I am particularly skeptical of attempts to do single-player gambling. Just based on your question above, there are plenty of things that need to be obvious in a multi-player game like poker for comfort of mind: inability for cards to be manipulated, responsible owners, some kind of proven business history, at least an attempt to crack down on collaboration, etc.

Also if you haven't there should be some more information available on our IGB site: http://www.eohpoker.com/ which is also viewable OOG.

Edit: On a related note, would placing some kind of basic business information, such as # of games served or # of active accounts be of any use to bring new people in? I'm just asking you, as a new person, if that would help any. For example, we wiped our accounts and relaunched with our new user system a little under 3 weeks ago, and are almost back up 1000 active EOH accounts again.

Selene,

Thank you for responding to that question, even though I know it could be thought of as a little insulting (I'm not trying to be, just being careful and cautious). Looked through the documentation and saw that my earlier fears weren't needed; thank you for addressing that concern and putting those fears to rest.

I would gather that the reason you had so many people with the relaunch was because you had a bunch of old players returning under said new system. Although as a new person (and one who used to be looking at these things) yes, I think that putting in detailed information about how many accounts, how many games, perhaps even average isk that you hold (this might help to show a new person that you're trustworthy and won't run off with it, which a lot of people fear; might bring in more business) would help bring in any interested players to choosing to play.

No worries Tobin, it's probably our biggest hurdle in growing the community.

Well, before the account wipe we had around 2500 accounts used in the past 3 months (we remove ones older than that to reduce clutter), So 1000 in about 3 weeks is about right. But yeah, we've really only focused on the service itself and have only really pushed advertising since the new year (sigs, banner ads, upcoming radio ads (I hope), etc). I'm always open to new ideas for both advertising our service and giving information to our customers that would be helpful and/or comforting.

Now, where to include such data =D

There are no emails in the current system. You should be in-game in the EOH POKER channel, where you can ask for help or read documentation via http://www.eohpoker.com/

I'm also still semi-away until the 20th, but I should get a chance to check in this weekend again and clear away any outstanding issues.

the rake is to big imo, you need to fix that on the 500 million + tables, in 1 vs 1, rake is eating our stacks way to fast.

Those tables aren't designed for 1v1 play. The 1-2 B table is only at 1.5% in case you were wondering. Unfortunately I'd drop the % on 1v1 matches there, but it's currently not an option. I'm also generally against 1v1 ring tables.

I updated the thread with some quick stats so that new players can get an idea for exactly how much our business has been used, safely I might add =) This was done as per an earlier customer suggestion, so thanks for that sir.

And Grozen, the 1-2 B table saw some use during the last busy period, and those come and go, you high rollers travel in packs I swear =P So while it may not see much love right now I expect it to be heavily used the next time a few of you guys congregate again =)

EOH Hold 'Em is a pretty good place to play poker for something less meaningful than real money, but still worth enough to maintain the integrity of the game. Support has been good, the bankers are plentiful and always willing to take....er deposit your isk. Selene is a great business person, even as busy as she is, she'll still take the time to work out issues with the individual customers.

My only real issue is the lack of normally structured STT's, personally I don't like the turbo double-throughs, I'd really like to see more 9-10 person tourneys that pay 1st-3rd.

2nd issue is with the ring game limits, the 2/4 tables have a 75BB max buy in, while all the other tables have a 100BB max buy in. The limits also jump from 2/4 to 5/10 to 25/50, so you go from playing with 30mill on the table to 100mill to 500mill, those are some big leaps if you're building your roll up. A 3/6 table with a 100BB buy in would be nice, as well as a 15/30 with 100BB. I know, I know, you're probably limited by the software, as is 2/4 is too small, but there's not enough traffic at 5/10. I think a lot of the 2/4 people would play 3/6. Anyway, just my 2isk

We originally ran this game type, but once DTs/TTs showed up, such a majority of the playerbase preferred the new format (80%+) that it became very hard to run normal Tournaments other than for big events, which we still do (such as the Anniversary tournament or some Event Night multi-tables).

We used to cover different sizes of buy-ins on the Ring tables. What always happened was the players would converge towards the lowest or the highest tables, with anything inbetween eventually ignored. Basically players wanted big money, or to play as cheap as possible, and would slowly draw middle-ground people to one extreme or the other. At this point there is a decent gap between sizes, and we now see each table size type in regular use, most likely due to them not overlapping too much. So the current layout isn't because I haven't considered what you said, but mostly due to the reality of our poker population.

not to be mean but been playing this a few times... i see more bad beats on this maven in one game then i see in 10 in real life.... 2-3 players have a straight in one hand is common and one will have the higher one than the other 2 but the one that won got his high straight on the river or something... i dont know but kind of lame happens to much.

There's nothing special about the software and how it deals the cards, it's just a plain RNG. Also don't fall into the self-delusion many real-life poker players do when they come online, which is to compare the two within the same time period. You're seeing -far- more hands in online play than in RL. The probabilities are the same, but the volume is much different. Playstyles also matter, with us seeing a lot of loose playstyles since it's not playing with $$$, which causes more crazy hands to end up happening since people don't fold allowing more weird **** to happen on the river. Online poker is pretty crazy, and EOH is even crazier for the reason mentioned above.
